Addicted!

Updated

I am taking 150mg to 300mg of Lyrica daily. The problem here is that I do not have a prescription. I take them from my boyfriends' bottle which he is prescribed. I am on other medication that are prescribed to me such as; Methadone, Prozac, Lorazepam, Seroquel (just to name a few). I started taking Lyrica because I was curious. Now I am addicted to the stuff and I'm too afraid to tell my doctor or my boyfriend. I am more depressed, anxious, think about death all the time and cry constantly. I have difficulties communicating to my therapist because when I open my mouth to speak, I begin crying uncontrollably. I am a mess, and I am afraid that I will eventually exit stage left.

Hi, Ashley! Sorry about the issues you're having.

Lyrica is actually not an opiate pain reliever, so it's not addicting or habit forming in the traditional sense. Lyrica contains the active ingredient Gabapentin, which is actually an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders.

And that is likely why your moods are so down and depressed, it works by acting on brain chemicals and it can affect them negatively in some people.

Learn more Lyrica details here.

You really need to open up and talk to your therapist about it, they will be able to help you.

And stop beating yourself up, we all make mistakes! :-) That's one of the great things about life, we get to learn from them and move on to something better.

How are you doing today?

I have taken Xanax for anxiety disorder for about 20+ years. 1 mg 3x day if needed. I did abuse it many years ago along with opiates to include fentanyl patches. Never crossed the illicit drug line. Over the years I managed to get myself off of opiates and although I still am prescribed Xanax and still take it for anxiety disorder to include panic attacks... I don't abuse it, quite the opposite...I sometimes forget to take it for a day or two... I have had it stolen from me many times and found out the hard way that seizures come at day 3. I keep a reserve bottle of xtra pills in my safe for unexpected situations because my disorder has been EXTREME with highs and lows and I don't like seizures. Last week Matthew hit my community and the first floor of my home is a total loss. 24 inches of water filled my house so quickly I thought we wouldn't survive. I keep my Xanax on my person always, but being human I have left it in my purse unattended and this time the flood took it with my entire purse. I live in a state that was not declared a disaster but my neighborhood was devastated; 85% of homes 1 story are condemned and without flood insurance. This storm was absolutely unpredictable and we weren't prepared for it. We had no warning so evacuation was not even discussed and we couldn't leave because it took only minutes to leave us with no option. When we could go I grabbed my xtra rx and thought I was ok. That was a week ago and I have 1 pill left + I can't refill it until the 25th. 6 days. 1 pill. My Dr. is set in his ways and rx's r not negotiable.

Can ANYONE PLEASE let me know if Lyrica (100mg) is something that could help me get through 6 days without much Required Xanax? Any help would be a blessing.

Poor thing!! I had some major suicidal ideation with lyrica. 72 hour hold for trying to exit stage left as you so eloquently put it. DONT DO ANYTHING TO YOURSELF!! I promise this will pass - it’s chemical. There are legal suits because this drug makes everyone feel suicidal. Wait it out baby, and try and taper slowly!

Re: Me (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Yes it will help! And so would Kratom potentially. And melatonin would probably help as well. And obviously not of marijuana!

Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

LYRICA IS ADDICTING, AND IS NOT Gabapentin. Not trying to be an ass, I just know what people are going through as I've already been there done that and bought a T-shirt and I hate to see people get the wrong information, that's all. God bless and if u need someone to chat with about it, I'm here.
