Off Topamax Success

I have had bulimia for 20 years. The disorder started when I was 11 years old...essentially because of a traumatic childhood circumstance. I also have bipolar disorder. My questions. 1. How long does it take for the binge cravings to go away? 2. What dose is effective (I am on 50mg daily now) 3. I began Topamax a week and a half ago as a migraine prevention. I am experiencing random facial, hands, and feet numbness. Mental fogginess, dull headaches, and tiredness. For those of you who have had success with migraine prevention and have taken this medication for a long time: How long did your side effects last? I have heard only a few weeks. I'm not sure If I can deal with this constantly much longer. I am contemplating which is the lesser of the two evils side effects vs. migraines. I have lost 10 lbs. though. Any advice? ## I haven't used this medication, but what you are experiencing are normal side effects of it and I can tell you that in most cases, they start to taper off about 4 weeks, as your body adjusts to the medication. Who has had successful or as close as possible ,drug for treating bipolar . I have been down the list and eventually they don't work anymore . I have use lithium tegretol lamictin topamax . I am on neurontin and take cymbalta -the horror drug - I can't get off it the discontinuation symptoms drive me staight back to taking it . Have been off it for 14 days and the pain in root of nose plus continuos heavy salivation left me dehydrated and no pain meds work. The symptoms and pain dissapear within 1/2 hour of taking cymbalta ! BUT after 5 days of taking it again , the most violent suicide thoughts claim my brain and the body tension is enormous when ever I am stressed or face conflict situations . My brain flies straight to suicide and I have to take a traquilisser to calm myself ...

I started 50 mg of Topamax a week ago for migraines. How soon should I start seeing results if it is going to help? So far, the only side effect I have had is some numbness in my feet/hands and carbonated beverages tasting a little different. I was also curious if anyone has had success with topamax helping generalized pain like back or joint pain? ## I was on it fot 4 months for migraine prevention. I had tingling feet off anf on with it. My concern now is that I have double vision from it. I was tsking 25mg/day. ## @Melli, According to a drug monograph for Topamax (topiramate), it may take up to several weeks to start seeing significant changes in your symptoms.. so you may just have to give it a little more time before you can really decide if this medication is even right for you.
