Bacitracin[1] is a polypeptide antibiotic. It is a mixture of related cyclic peptides produced by Bacillus licheniformis bacteria, that was first isolated from the variety "Tracy I" (ATCC 10716) in 1945.[2] These peptides disrupt Gram-positive bacteria by interfering with cell wall and peptidoglycan synthesis. This is a lotion for one afflicted with epidermolysis bullosa simplex-kobner. The ingredients are 1/2%HC, 1/2%NEO. I would like to receive any information from a doctor regarding this lotion. Can it be gotten over-the-counter? ## I am afflicted with epidermolysis bullosa simplex/kobner and yes, in my case a prescription must be obtained from a doctor. I was introduced to this Iowa City Lotion back in the mid-1960's by a new dermatologist that came to town. It's good stuff. It has never let me down!! Before I used this lotion, I was prescribed ointments. These ointments did not work for me. This modified lotion worked great for me and I couldn't live without it. I really need too add that this is an EXTERNAL application Lotion Only!! This lotion is in no way to be taken inter...

Does this medicine go to the back of the throat? I put four drops in my ear and it burned my sinuses and the back of my throat. ## Hello, Gwen! How are you? Has there been any change? Are you on any other medications? No, medications placed in your ear should not cause such issues with your nose and throat. The FDA lists the typical side effects as normally being limited to the ear and possibly including topical redness, itching, a feeling of fullness, and drainage. Sometimes, something may hit a certain nerve in your ear and make you cough, but that is usually the extent of it.

Have been taking these ear drops for 3 days now. My tongue is numb, my chest is tight, and it's hard to breath. Feels like I'm impaired. My whole body hurts and this started out as a simple inner and outer ear infection in both ears, start taking these drops and now I feel like my heart and brain is going to explode and my face and body feel numb, on top of all of that my ears have gotten worse!!!! Should I call my doctor or go to the hospital? Please help! ## Go to the hospital. Could be an anaphylactic attack! ## @PainPainPain, I hope you've been well on your way to fully recovering since the timing of your post and subsequent feedback. Any update on how things are going or what type of diagnosis was determined? I see that a quick google search on "sulfate allergy symp...

if i'm allergic to sulfasalazine and smz-tmp can i take neomycin. I have a total colectomy scheduled for Monday Dec 1, 2014 and I am suppose to start on the neomycin and metronidazole on tomorrow. i am terrified that I will have the horrific reactions that I had in the past with sulfasalazine and smz-tmp if I take this new prescription Please help if u have the knowledge. Thanks so much ## @Marvin, I would try to get a second opinion on this from your doctor, but from what I can tell, if you are allergic to both SMZ-TMP + Sulfasalazine, it's possible that Neomycin Sulfate may cause a similar type of allergic reaction. There are different types of sulfa/sulfonamide-related allergies that may not pose the same risks as others, but being allergic to both types I wouldn't even w...

## Bacitracin zinc ointment is used to treat pink eye???? ## This is an over the counter antibiotic ointment used to treat topical bacterial infections. It may cause skin redness, irritation, dryness, and flaking as side effects, according to FDA reports. Sally, no it should not be used on, or in the eye, since it is not a sterile solution. Is there anything else I can help with?

Neomycin, Polymyxin b sulfate and Hydrocortisone otic suspension (exp 4/2008) was used in my eye in error. Will it be ok without having to see a doctor? ## Since this is not a sterile solution, like it would be for the eye, it would be best to have it checked out, just to be sure. The FDA warns that it could cause an eye infection, irritation, or redness. Has there been any change? Did you experience any adverse effects?

I went to a clinic this past wednesday & had a massive ball of wax removed from my right ear & the pain in my right ear has subsided. Now my left ear feels like its full, clogged & hurts on & off since wednesday but 2 doctors in that clinic assured me there's no wax in my left ear BUT that my left middle inner ear has "supposed" fluid in it that needs to dry OUT. So I was prescribed amoxicillin 2x a day for 10 days & prednisone 40mg a day for 4 days ((to dry out my left ear, which steroid makes no sense to dry my ear out anyway??)). Well amoxicillin I am fine with but the prednisone left me with the worst acid reflux (since I'm an acid reflux sufferer), awful hives from head to toe, & was shaking horrificly like a leaf because I took prednisone fo...
