Alinia Nitazoxanide

Nitazoxanide, sold under the brand name Alinia among others, is a broad-spectrum antiparasitic and broad-spectrum antiviral medication that is used in medicine for the treatment of various helminthic, protozoal, and viral infections.[4][5][6] It is indicated for the treatment of infection by Cryptosporidium parvum and Giardia lamblia in immunocompetent individuals and has been repurposed for the treatment of influenza.[1]&#9...

I have had c-diff for 10 months now. I started on Flagyl, did a combo of Flagyl and Vanco, and spike treatments of Vanco at 125mg and 250mg. I recently heard that a Gastro doctor prescribes a drug called "Alinia" for his pediatric patients. I only heard the name, is this the right drug? If it is would I be a candidate for it? Do you combine it with Vanco? I heard it kills the spore, but I thought that wasn't possible. ## Alinia contains the active ingredient Nitazoxanide and it's only listed as being effect against Cryptosporidium and Giardia, so it's not used to treat Clostridium Difficile. You can learn more about C Difficile and the treatment options here: Does anyone else have advice or ideas to add?

prescribed for giardia ## The price of Alinia (nitazoxanide) is more than I can pay. I have taken many rounds of drugs for h-pylori that I've had for over 4 years. Please help! ## Alinia is an antiparasitic medication that is used to treat various parasitic infestations that cause diarrhea, as deemed appropriate by your doctor. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and stomach pain. Ann, why has this been prescribed for H. Pylori? Have they made sure that it is still present?

Is Alinia an antibiotic? Can you still be having diarrhea off and on after being on it for 4 weeks, my doctor would like me to stay on it for up to 8 weeks for parasite. I have had a number of instances with cramping and diarrhea but not all the time. ## Alinia is used to treat the diarrhea associated with a parasitic infection, unfortunately, its most common side effect is diarrhea, according to FDA reports. Other side effects may include headache, nausea, and stomach pain. Ref: Alinia Information You should finish your full course of treatment, being careful to remain hydrated, then the diarrhea should stop, once your treatment is finished. Are you on any other medications?

While in Central America I was afflicted with a parasite infestation which threatened to block the colon. When bright red blood was passed, I sought medical help and was prescribed Nodik (nitaxonanide). This, thankfully, cleared the problem immediately. The nitrous drug floods the system and is absorbed into the gut, but it is claimed that it is rapidly excreted. Some months later my blood tested high in nitrites (carcinogenic). Is this drug safe to use? ## Hi Allie, I'm sorry to hear about all that, I would be so terrified! Based on my research, long term carcinogenic and toxicity reports haven't been conducted for Nitazoxanide so it's hard to know if that's what caused your blood test to show that it's high in nitrates. I read that less than 1% of patients disconti...

My friend who is traveling has been prescribed this by a doctor in Guatemala for treatment of amoebic dysentary. Is that what this drug is primarily used for? ## The medicine Nodik (branded outside the USA) is the active ingredient Nitazoxanide. It is marketed in the United States as Alinia. Nitazoxanide is an antiprotozoal agent. It is used to treat diarrhea in adults and children caused by the protozoa Giardia lamblia. Nitazoxanide is also used to treat diarrhea caused by the protozoa Cryptosporidium parvum. These conditions are also sometimes referred to as travelers' diarrhea. Stop taking nitazoxanide and seek emergency medical attention if you experience a rare allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives).
