Is It Safe To Take Activated Charcoal Daily
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Are activated charcoal tablets safe to take daily, and if so, in what doses? A gall bladder op was botched and now constant diarrhea is a problem as is painful bloating.

You don't want to take activated charcoal while taking your other med, cause it will absorb the med out of your system and make them useless to you. Maybe you should try a Probiotic or some Flax seed tablets to keep you regular. Sometimes our bodies don't metabolize our food that we eat daily and this will help, and sometimes it's what we eat that can cause us gas like dairy products. Take a closer look at your diet and what you might be eating that could be making you feel this way and jot it down to keep track. That helps a little.

Activated charcoal is not meant to be taken all the time, maybe 3-4 weeks tops, then you want to lay off of it and far as taking it with other meds you want to keep your meds about 3-4 hrs apart from taking the charcoal so the charcoal doesn't flush your meds out of your body. And the boating sounds like a digesting problem. You might want to start taking some probiotics and enzymes to start helping break your food down. Or flaxseed is good for keeping you regular as well.

Your body takes roughly 1 - 4 hours to metabolize and absorb medication. I would recommend taking your medication in the early morning and by night taking the charcoal tablets. I am not a medical professional but I've read up on the subject and this is what I found was most recommended. I get medical grade charcoal in an ultra fine powdered form and find it easier to drink. I add roughly 1 - 2 teaspoons to my tea every night, it works wonders.

I suffer from excessive gas in my stomach. I've ordered some charcoal tablets but after reading up about them I'm a bit scared of taking them as I'm on other medication, but I only take my meds at night. Will I be ok to take the charcoal tabs.
I'm in a lot of discomfort and there's nothing else my doctor can do.
