Updated

Just had Testopel pellets inserted in my backside. Forgot to ask doctor how long until they take effect. He's out of town.

I had 12 pellets about a month ago and my butt still hurts at times. Really hurt for 2 weeks and then slowly subsided. Now I feel a lumpy butt that seems to have moved! Wonder if others had anything like that.
My libido is better, I think?! Actually I feel a higher libido at times. Also, the skin or nerves of my genitals more sensitive. And I have erect nipples! LOL Just wondering what others experience.

Started Testopel 10 days ago about 14 pellets. My libido was low and now it doesn't even exist. I been going through mood swings that are out of character for me. I feel like a teenager starting puberty.I have erections through the night that feel like my penis is going to explode but I have no desire to have sex. My doctor feels that these are positive sign but I feel lousy.I am waiting for results from a blood test to see where my T level is at. I tried the gels and it worked only sporadically for me. My doctor said that my skins doesn't absorb it properly. That how I started with the Testopel. Any suggestion?

Hi Bill, just started the testopel today "12 " pellets and not sore or swollen. Hope to get the feeling that you got, erection where it feels like it is going to burst. Will keep you up dated... Thanks Al

Your T level goes up right away with ANY T-therapy medication, such as Testopel, Androgel or Testim. Have tried them all over the past several years, and it is my experience that Testopel is far and away the best option. Why have to remember to use a sticky gel every single day when you can get Testopel that lasts not less than four or five months in my case and up to six months for others. It's actually less expensive, too!

I am on my third dose of Testopel and have done countless hours of research. 10 to 12 pellets is generally what people get to start with and your doctor can increase from there if he feels necessary. Body weight and starting testosterone level is also taken into consideration so you may get more than 12 to start with. I started at 12, now get 14. For me, I get about 4 and a half months of good levels and then schedule another appointment. My doctor said there was no need to check levels on a regular basis after the first go around since he will have a good idea of how my body is reacting to the Testopel. I went in for one month blood work to get a peak level (it was 720) and then back at four to see where I was (340). He felt like adding two more was necessary so now I just go in every 18 weeks or so for another dose. Still get my PSA and levels checked periodically. As for the discomfort, I personally do not find it painful. Takes no longer than 10 minutes and it's a little tender with some bruising for a couple of days, but after that it's like nothing ever happened back there. Prior to getting it done I read where a few people said they can feel them under the skin. I have not been able to feel them and when I asked my doctor about it he said that is probably from them being placed a little shallow, which he said is not a big deal. That's been my experience, so I hope that helps. I am 56 with a starting level of 186 by the way. Best of luck.

Roger, no need to be an ass. If you don't have something constructive for the conversation stay out of it.

T level was @ 400 but was having all the symptoms of low T so I had 10 pellets inserted 1/23. had levels checked 3/12 and levels went up to only 447 with no real signs/benefits of the pellets. Has anybody else had the testopel not work? I am debating on trying the gel, but I am wondering if that will be effective. Went with the pellets for obvious reasons but am very disappointed with the results.

While Testopel may be ok, BioTE Medical is better, with a true bioidentical pellet, procedure for implant that does not require stitches, correct dosing for each individual instead of a trial and error method utilized by Slate Pharmaceutical! And it is my understanding that insurance will only cover 6 pellets, which is only a dose of 450mg. Many doctors that have used more than 6 have found themselves in the position of having to reimburse patient for costs not covered by insurance. Not near enough for many men with significantly low T and Free T levels. Also, if you are using Testopel, is your doctor monitoring your rbc/hgb and estradiol levels?

3-6 seems very low, but then again if that is all you need to get you up to normal levels that is great. I personally have never had less than 10.

I had Testopel inserted into my upper buttock about 3 months ago.
I looked at the reviews and at best it sounded minimal.
It was about 2 weeks before I could sit comfortably and a month for the pain to go away.
For me the pain was awful. (usually I can take pain in stride)

The area above the pellets is still bruised now.
They worked almost immediately but in the last few weeks the levels have seemed to drop off dramatically (energy and duration to completion)

I tried testim and it worked (needed higher levels) but was messy, sticky and spontaneous female contact with your shoulders is out (oh, and try washing it off quickly).
I don't know if it's less painful somewhere else but for me that was the first and last there.

As far as being more sensitive, definitely. Probably too sensitive as I feel like a teenager without any control anymore. I started a weekly injection (1ml) in addition to having the 10 pellets and also started Arimedex (.5mg twice a week). Feeling really good now!

I'm not hawking anymore than anyone else that talks about gels, patches or injections. Merely pointing out that there are options for pellet therapy. I never implied that receiving any dose over 450mg was bad, just that their FDA approval is specific for men and only for 6 pellets. Doctors certainly can dose off label, and in the case of Testopel, they probably do quite frequently so that their patients can see symptom relief. Is all the grief you guys are giving me because I'm a woman? I hope not, like I've said before, I am on testosterone pellet therapy and have had great results! Ask your doctor if he would put a woman on Testopel, Testim, Androgel, or any other testosterone therapy. Most women by age 40 have cut their production of testosterone by at least 50%. So when they stop their estrogen production you can understand why they are so "hormonal"...lol!! Testosterone accounts for about 90% of their symptoms! Thanks guys! I'll leave y'all alone, and accept my apologies if I have offended anyone!

That is interesting. I wonder when do the pellets ‘max out’ your level? I cannot be having BW done every 2-3 weeks to check my levels as that gets pretty expensive. What I was hoping for (in a perfect world) is that I would get the pellets and my symptoms would improve. I want to get away from the injections so I am hoping to get @18 pellets the next time around.

Another thing to note is that a man's testosterone level is most high late night/early 'wee hours of morning', so the increased 'early morning erections' occurs because of this fact. Usually more frequent and more dramatic during the first month after pellet implantation, ... ... at least for me.

I was using Androgel for a year and I liked it. but as of Jan. '12, my insurance stopped covering it. I tried Testim- didnt like it. Now I have been off testosterone for 3 months. I have been getting hot flashes several times a day, and I feel weird and not well unless I'm relaxing. Erections? Whats that? I just had a blood test and my T level is 20!!!! One of my docs said he never heard of a level so low in an adult. I will be starting Testopel in a few days-I appreciate this forum. Wish me luck.

Sorry David. I did submit another post as I stated earlier, but for some reason they said it could be a few days before it posted. This BHRT originated in Arizona, then expanded into Texas. We just went national last October and have added providers in 16 states and continue to grow and see great results in patients, both men and women. I understand that Testopel is off label for women and any dose greater than 450mg(6 pellets) is also off label and therefore not FDA approved. All I wanted to do is point out an option that may work better for some men and certainly an option for women! I have been on testosterone for 2 1/2 yrs and it has been phenomenal!

Sorry guys, did not intend to get an attitude or put down another product. Allow me to rephrase, please. I worked for a doctor that provided this treatment for men and women. I had several symptoms and so had the lab work done to see if I was a candidate and I was. Have been on the pellets for 2 1/2 years and it has been wonderful! No more sleepless nights, 3:00pm slumps, joint pain, night sweats, not to mention the boost to the libido, which formerly didn't exist. I have heard from insurance companies(while checking on HRT coverage for some friends of mine) that they will only pay for the dose of 450 or less, and only for men. Awesome for those whose insurance pays for whatever dose they need! BioTE doses a little higher than they do, but it is common for the BioTE pellets to last 6 months. So, that being said, testosterone therapy via pellets can greatly improve a man/woman's sense of well being as well as long term health benefits!

John,

It takes me about 14 days before I notice a benefit. I have had pellets inserted 6 times now and it is always right around 14 days and I will wake up and just feel like a totally new man. Just hang in there and you should notice a big difference in a few days. I know it's frustrating but I think you are probably just like me. Our body's absorb the Testopel at a very slow rate. Best of wishes to you!

Brian

I have completed my 4th implant. I get 14 of them every 3 months. At the end of 3 months my T runs at a low 400-600. After 2nd month of most recent implant my T was 900 which I thought was incredible. When I get the implants I am on a fantastic high for about 4-6 days then I calm down. My libido is improved. However, when having intercourse I still climax but produce no semen. The doctor says this is normal and not to be concerned which I am not. Implant procedure is painless and only sometimes have some bruising afterwards. What has been phenomenal for me is the physical changes in my body. I have dropped considerable body fat and have been almost a lifting monster at the gym. This is a complete change for me. I'm 76 years old and getting younger every day.
