Hi Evam,

Sorry to hear about your situation. I realize it's been over a month since you posted this. How are you feeling now? Much better I hope!?

Anyhow, according to MedsChat's half-life calculator, methadone has an average half-life of 37.5 (roughly three days). I've also heard from some medical professionals that it may take up to five half-life cycles for a medication to be completely out of your system ['hair' probably being an exception]. So 37.5 x 5 half-life's = 187.5 hours (or about a weeks time).

I think it's always a good idea to double check with your prescribing doctor first, but I hope this helps put things into better perspective in so far as determining how long one should wait.

Re: debo (# 2)

Hi. I've been on methadone for 6 months now n down to 40 mils but I wish I'd never even gone on it. I want to change over to subutex but as I'm a single mum of 2 I cannot go into a full withdrawal hence opting for the methadone to start with. I feel horrible taking it (as bad as the H). All I'm worried about is how long (if at all) would I be ill if I change over? I'm a little confused as some people are saying it's the worse thing they did while others say it's better. Personally, I really want to change over. How long would I have to stop my methadone for before I'm able to take my first subutex? Will I be ill? Plz someone help me have a clearer picture of what to expect. Love n peace to all.

I wait 24 hours , from taking 50 ml of methadone to taking 14 ml' s of subutex, no problem. The leaflet in the box says 24 hours. I also wait 24 hours, from 14 ml' s of subutex to say taking 80 ml' s of methadone, no problems. And I am not in withdrawal. Lee Sherlock, England, .uk.
