Hello, Betty! How are you?
They are both different types of medical imaging that can show different things about the body.
An MRI is magnetic resonance imaging, it is capable of giving information on organs and structures that the other tests can't show, such as more details about soft tissues.
A CT scan is computerized tomography, it actually uses x-ray images to give a better model of some body parts, because it uses multiple x-ray images to produce cross-sectional images, or as the techs like to call them, slices. However, since it uses x-ray technology, it can't show as much of the soft tissue that an MRI can.
Is there anything else I can help explain?
You can read more details on the NIH website, or feel free to ask me, my husband works in radiology. :-)
