What Is The Best Way To Get Controlled Substance Filled
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Have been on pain meds for 10 years. I realize the issues going on with pain meds but there has got to be a method(s) that will work because some people are getting their meds filled with no problems. I have supplied all the documentation, go only to one doc and one pharmacy but even they are getting more and more difficult to deal with. The last time she told me (pharm) that she had to have a copy of my pain management contract before she fills any more prescriptions. I would think this is confidential info between me and my physician, even he agrees. What does it take to please these people and get my meds? Any clues?

Mom and pop pharmacies are bad for this as well as some chains now. I have found Target and places such as these..maybe walmart super centers...bottom line, find a place that fills thousands of scripts a day. Or check at your pain doc and find out what pharm their patients usually go too. If they fill scripts for the same doc often, they are prob gonna be less apt to scrutinize you.

The contract, if you've signed one, doesn't actually contain any personal medical information, just the agreement for your treatment between you and the doctor, so yes they can ask for that, if it's their policy.

What's considered confidential information would be your actual medical records, such as the reasons you are in pain management, test results and etc.

If they are willing to continue filling your prescriptions if they have it, then if it were me, I'd just have my doctor's office fax them something showing you are under a treatment agreement with them. It doesn't have to list any specifics or confidential information and, compared to the difficulties people are having getting these types of prescriptions filled, that would most likely be your best bet.

And just in case you aren't aware of what a pain management contract is, if you don't actually have one, it is an agreement that some doctors have their pain patients sign that states they will only be treated by them as long as they abide by certain rules, such as not seeking medications from another doctor or an ER and etc.

Have you signed one with your doctor?
