As you probably know, the manufacturers have temporarily stopped producing the above & believe they will re-commence sometime in quarter 4 of this year. My doctors have tried me on Half Securon Verapamil Slow Release & most recently Slozem Diltiazem Hydrochloride - I feel sick as a dog with the latter - hot flushes, lack of appetite & worst of all a feeling like I have a bad stomach with a knot as though I have eaten something bad. Drs now saying I probably have stomach ulcers but I'm very sure it's the Slozem as it only started when I took Slozem. Do you know any alternatives closer to Univer Verapamil Prolonged/Release Capsules in their make-up, please? I seem to get no where with doctors & have been waiting 3 months for a hospital pharmacist to look at this sa...

As Searle PFZ has stopped making Calan SR, I have been taking it 23 years for spastic esophagus, so anxious to learn which is the best generic. Any information is much appreciated. Thanks. ## Hello, Jean! How are you? There is no one best generic, it really depends on which one works best for you, since we are all different. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anyone else that's taken this med available to chime in with their experiences on generics? ## Hi Vernon, thanks for your reply. I am "trying out" Glenmark 240 mg at the moment. If it does not work, then Ivax. So far so good. Too many generics out there.

I had been taking Calan SR 240 for a number of years to control my ophthalmic migraines. My health insurance said that I needed to go with the generic so they put me on Verapomil HCL by Ivax/Teva with no problems. Then the insurance company said that they would not cover the meds by Ivax/Teva and the pharmacy provided Verapomil ER by Mylan. After taking the new meds for 4 days, my blood pressure went from ~135/70 to 189/100. The pills from Ivax are Ivory in color and the ones from Mylan are blue. When I take the Ivax, my blood pressure returns to normal and skyrockets with Mylan. Since both pills are supposed to be identical, can anyone think of a reason why they so drastically different? My doctor has put me on Lisinopril to go along with the Mylan meds to control my BP. This sounds lu...

My health centre can't provide this Univer product anymore due to no longer being Manufactured?! Have been given Securon SR instead, but cannot sleep more than 2-4 hours per night for two weeks now. Is there anything else I can try? I have high blood pressure with heart fibrillation. ## Hello, Ingegerd! How are you? They are the same, the active ingredient in Securon SR is a prolong release Verapamil, so as long as the dosage is the same, there shouldn't be a problem, at least in theory. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Have you consulted your doctor to let them know about the problem? ## Hi, yes I have been given another Verapamil called Vera-Til, same 240 mg as before, but unfortunate...

Hallo doctor I am 65 years old 1.79m tall and normally weigh 90kg. My weight starting to drop to 84 kg in a short period of time.I uses topzole, stillen , foxair and vasomil medicine daily. What could be the cause of the weigh loss? ## I'm not a doctor, but based on my research none of the following medications you've mentioned list weight loss as possible side effect... Vasomil (Verapamil) Foxair (Fluticasone + Salmeterol) Stillen (Eupatilin) Tozole (Pantoprazole) Vasomil however, does list "loss of appetite" as under serious side effects that should be reported to your doctor immediately. Have you been experiencing a loss of appetite after taking this particular medication? Outside of this side effect, I can't really determine what might be the cause of your weight l...

I can no longer get this brand of Verapmil from any pharmacy located here in the Orlando Florida Area. My pharmacist told me the manufacturer no longer makes this brand. I am allergic to all the colored brand forms of this medication. Can anybody tell me where I can get the white pill from any manufacturer. Please it works good for me with very little side affects . ## Hello, Fitzhugh! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. However, your pharmacist should be able to order one in for you that is dye free. You are not the only person that has a problem with the coloring agents and this is something they usually have to do for customers on a fairly regular basis. There is a white one manufactured by Qualitest Pharmaceuticals, in the 240mg ER dosage. It has the...

I have received an e-mail from Teva UK, who produce verapamil capsules under the Univer name, that production has been interupted. They hope to resume in the fourth quarter of 2016. As I need two 180mg slow release tablets per day I queried my GP for a replacement. I have started on Vera-Til SR 120mg tablets from Tillomed. As I need 180mg I take one and a half tabs. Not so convenient but so far no side effects. ## It is risky to be cutting those tablets, since they are time released, it could cause you to get too much of the medication, at once, which may result in overdose. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi I have been on these capsules for many years for my migraines. one time I was given the pill version and this had dramatic effects on my Migraines. I am now having major problems getting my prescriptions filled because the Chemist seem to have problems obtaining them. I am so worried that I will have to change the medication for something that clearly didn't work for me. Do you know why these are unavailable in UK. Thanks Yvonne

I am a 47 year old male and have suffered from cluster headaches for 25 years, without any medication really helping. Someone recently recommended verapamil My doctor hadn't heard of it. Does it help, and how is it meant to be taken- daily, or only when headaches occur? ## Yes, I take verapamil for migraines. Don't know if it works for cluster headaches, but if your doc hasn't heard of it there's at least a decent chance he also misdiagnosed you as cluster headaches vs migraine... It is a preventative so I take it every day. For me, I'm taking 240mg SR. It is not a cure but it does reduce the frequency and severity of my symptoms. Preventatives are all meds for other illnesses that over time evidence built up that for some people they helped with migraines. Neurologi...

I am taking Verapamil ER 240 mg tablets, Hygroton 25 mg tablets, and Losartan 25mg tablets. My doctor wants me to take these bulky Potassium CL 20 meq ER tablets once a day. Potassium tabs are too big for me take. Will the pills dissolve in water? Any suggestions. Thanks. ## Hello, Jackie! How are you? No, you cannot dissolve them, cut them, crush them or break them. Potassium is very hard on the gastro-intestinal system, so they have to be slow released and specially coated to protect you. The FDA lists stomach irritation and nausea as being its most common side effect, so it should be taken with food. The reason you most likely have to take it is due to the Hygroton, it is a diuretic that's used to remove excess fluid from your body to help treat high blood pressure and certain ot...

Let's start a nationwide campaign to bring the verapamil white 73-100 240 er (formally manufactured by Ivac) back. Write an individual letter to each member of the Teva Board of Directors, they made the decision to stop manufacturing it. Here is a link to get the information: tevapharm.com/about/corporate_governance/board_of_directors ## agree completely I was on ivax for 16 years and then teva kept it going and now they have stopped! I am so frustrated trying others as they all vary ## I have been on the 240ER 73-00 for almost 20 years. I have called several pharmacies and they say they can't get it. Some say its been discontinued. I've tried the brown pill and had serious side effects. I am now on the blue pill and am having shortage of breath. I will try e-mailing Teva so...

I have been taking verapamil 240 for a few years. Now I am finding it impossible to get my script filled, I have been told there is a shortage in Australia. When will it be available again? ## I don't know about Australia, but here in New York, my mother is having a very difficult time finding it at CVs pharmacy. If they do get it in stock, it is only a few pills at a time. She heard from the insurance company that the price is going up in January Arianna, so she suspects that the manufacturer is deliberately limiting availability so that everyone is forced to pay higher prices soon. Does anyone have more info?

Started taking Verapamil for chronic migraines--started with low dose and gradually increased. As I increased, the joints in both elbows became so painful, hard to put on a jacket or open a jar...muscles in arms are also very sore...both arms are equally sore. I am a strong person, had no trauma to the arms, and problem only started with verapamil use. Doctor does not believe it's the medication, but pharmacy told me joint pain could be a side effect. So confused...I love verapamil as it has taken my chronic headaches/migraines away and I love it! but can't handle this joint/arm pain much longer---any input would be fantastic! ## Hello, Skunkbuns! How are you? Yes, even the U.S. FDA lists that among the possible side effects, but your doctor may not be away of it. Most doctors d...

First day of verapamil 240er and wit in 2 hours of taking skin on palms had bue spots and extremely cold. Also had chills and BP up to 144 /70..was normal in am Chills continued all day. Began to fell better about 12 hours lster ## Hello, Sep! How are you doing? Sorry about the problems you experienced. These can be normal side effects of taking Verapamil, since it does work on blood flow, to lower blood pressure. The blood pressure elevation was most likely just due to your worrying about it and being active during the day. Learn more Verapamil details here. But that coldness of extremities doesn't usually go away, like other side effects will as you get used to the medication. Have you consulted your doctor? This might not be the right medication for you to take. ## have been take...

Just need to know if G74 pinkish tan pill is Verapamil 240mg ER Tab GLE is the same as the Verapamil white pill 73 00, 240mg ER Tab Zenith. ## The imprint of G74 is in fact identified to be Verapamil hydrochloride SR (slow release) 240 mg. This pill is manufactured by Glenmark Generics Inc. Inactive Ingredients in this pill include the following: silicon dioxide, sodium alginate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, polyethylene glycol, titanium dioxide, ferric oxide yellow, ferric oxide red, ferrosoferric oxide, hypromelloses. The manufacturer of the other pill marked 73 00 is noted to be Teva Pharmaceuticals USA (although I know you mentioned "Zenith", this is just what it shows up as on drug databases). I have been taking verapamil 120 sr for many years. New dr changed to verapamil 120 no sr. I seem to be having headaches since. Could the change be making a difference with side effects? ## Hello, Yammie! How are you? Yes, it you are taking the regular release now, that could cause more side effects, because all of the medication is released at once, rather than slowly over a period of hours. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness and hypotension. Have you informed your doctor? They should be able to switch you back to the SR.

I am taking Verapamil 180 and the color was blue with an M and 312 on it. Had it refilled and it is a capsule grey and yellow 60274 on the gray What is the difference ## Hello, Mary! How are you? They've just been manufactured by different pharmaceutical companies, this is very common with generic medications. Having market competition helps keep prices lower. The one with the M 312 is manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals and the one with 60274 180 mg on it is manufactured by Watson Pharmaceuticals, but both contain 180mgs of Verapamil. The FDA classifies this medication as a calcium channel blocker and antiarrhythmic. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, stomach pain, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

Since the change from a solid tablet to time released capsule my Bp has risen. Where can the tablet be gotten. ## Hello, J! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. I'd advise speaking with your doctor, they can designate on the prescription that you are only to be given tablets, then the pharmacy cannot give you the capsules. The FDA classifies Verapamil as a calcium channel blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. My doctor has done this for me, so I can split doses of some medications that aren't time released, if needed. Is there anything else I can help with?

What's the difference between Verapamil HCL ER 240mg (blue and yellow capsule) vs Verapamil ER 240mg (turquoise capsule)? ## Hello, Tee! How are you? There is no difference, going by what you've listed, they are the same medication, the HCL was just not included on the label of the one. It stands for Hydrochloride and designates the specific chemical salt the medication is derived from, but they don't have to list it on the label. Otherwise, these have just been manufactured by different companies. Verapamil is classified by the FDA as a calcium channel blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. I was recently prescibed Verapamil ER Tabs 180 mgm po qd. It is an oblong pill, bright blue, scored,a capital M on one side and numbers 312 on the other.
