Last year, I relocated to be with my partner and few counties over and she lived in an apartment complex. After my very first overnight visit with her, when I returned home, totally out of the blue I got a horrible fever, headache, extreme tiredness and a sore throat. I just blamed it on the flu and never gave it a second thought. I took some Motrin and Airborne and fell asleep. I woke up the next day and all the symptoms were gone minus the headache. I eventually moved in with my partner for a few months and I kept getting these horrible fevers and headaches just out of the blue for no apparent reason and usually after taking some Motrin and falling to sleep, the symptoms alleviate or disappear. I got these symptoms several times while living with her, I'd say as often as once weekly. Finally, we moved out and moved back to my homeplace and I am still experiencing these same random symptoms that onset very quickly and can last for minutes or hours. The symptoms are much less common now and may happen once every couple months or so. After doing some research on the internet, I saw that there is a possibility that exposure to Methamphetamine residue can cause some/all of these symptoms even years or a lifetime after exposure. What scares me is my partner and I have been informed by someone that has lived in the apartment complex in excess of 10 years, that the residents living in the apartment we lived in did smoke methamphetamine and the residents in the apartment directly across from it cooked methamphetamine and were busted by police a few times (the door would not properly latch and was bent from being busted in by police so many times).
I am aware that the apartments are supposed to be cleaned and painted and all of that stuff before moving new residents in but my partner's apartment was absolutely filthy when she moved in, we even found used needles in the closets and sink drains! My partner was experiencing some very odd symptoms while we lived in the apartment as well, strange looking blisters on the throat and on the tongue, headaches, dizziness and generally just not feeling well. Since the relocation, she has had no further symptoms like that, however. Would it be possible my partner and I were exposed to methamphetamine residue from it being smoked on a consistent basis inside the unit we lived in and since it was cooked in an apartment that adjoined ours? I have never and will never do methamphetamine and I am strongly considering these symptoms I have are from that. It seems too strange that while I was actually there, I was getting these symptoms pretty often but after being gone for 8 months, I'm not experiencing them as frequently. I have had evaluations to eliminate other things like Lyme, TB And etc and those we're all negative.
I will be VERY upset if these symptoms are from methamphetamine exposure when I myself avoid it and do not want it anywhere near me. We were never told by any management of the apartment that methamphetamine was used and cooked in those apartments so we went in with a blindfold on. The apartment complex had SEVERAL drug busts for all kinds of drugs while we lived there, it was happening nearly once weekly!
Can being exposed to methamphetamine residue cause these off the wall symptoms? Can it last a lifetime or will it go away? If so, how long do I have to suffer with these awful symptoms? I am definitely going to inform my doctor that I may have been exposed to an uncleaned, unsanitized area where methamphetamine was being smoked and made, but in the meantime until my next appointment, any advice or information is welcome.
