Is there an OTC substitute for this? I cannot afford this.

There are over the counter Potassium supplements that you can purchase.

However, if yours is low and your doctor wants to bring it up fast, they are not going to work like this will.

Have you tried pricing it at different pharmacies?

There are generics available.

The reason I ask is because I have a bottle here and the first pharmacy I called for a price wanted over $40 for 30 tablets of the generic, however, I called another and was able to get their generic, in this same dosage, for only $12.

Low potassium can cause severe health problems, so it is not something you can let go and hope it resolves itself. Did you doctor say why they want you on it?

My friend's docter prescribes Potassium CL ER 20 MEG Tablets for leg cramps and weakness, and problems walking. I have terrible morning leg cramps and started taking 1x per day vs her 2x per day prescription, and have had considerable symptom reduction. I need my own prescription -- a generic type due to low-income & no health insurance, and because OTC tablets from Trader Joe's "Magnesium and Potassium Asporotates" only have 40 mg Potassium and 300 mg Magnesium each which has had little impact on my symptoms. My doctor's solution to my report of leg cramps was to prescribe OTC Calcium Carb Tab 500mg Element CA 1 tablet 2xs per day which caused even more painful morning cramps.
My questions are: 1) What is causing these cramps and what can I do to prevent further symptoms?
(I have normal healthy Asian food diet and near normal activity level for a 62 yo healthy woman; take no other medications than Claritin 1x per day 24-hour Time Release and 1x per day Albueterol inhalant treatment (2 puffs) for cat allergy/pulmonary insufficiency/heavy coughing, and no other medical history.); 2) What are generic substitutes for Potassium CL ER 20 MEQ Tablets?

I have drug coverage (Medicare supplement) but found if I used the Good Rx card I got one of my meds for $11.00 on the card vs. $41.00 on the supplement insurance. Also different pharmacies can have highly variable prices.
