My sister was taking Nucynta and Prednisone for her Rheumatoid Arthritis and it weakened her immune system. She had only been taking these 2 medications about a year. One day she got strep and it killed her. Within a couple of days of feeling sick, she was rushed the ER and passed away. She died of septic shock. I blame the drugs. ## Hello, Diana! How are you doing? I am so very sorry for your loss. Prednisone is a steroid class medication that can cause suppression of the immune system, so yes, it could have contributed to the problem. It can also headache, fluid retention and weight gain. However, not being a doctor, I can't say with certainty that it did. Have they attributed her death to anything? What do they say was the cause?

I only took three 50mg tablets over the past 36 hours. I don't plan to take any more. Can I have an alcoholic drink or should I wait longer for it to be out of my system? ## Hello, Purplegirl! How are you? How long ago did you take the last one? It's generally best to give it some time, because drinking while taking such a medication could aggravate the side effects, so you may experience more nausea, dizziness and drowsiness than usual. Both can also cause depression of the central nervous system, which could be dangerous, because it could cause lowered blood pressure, lowered heart rate, shallow breathing and sedation. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and const...

Is thre an over the counter pill, orange with white inside, that looks like nucynta? I think my sis stole my moms and put a diffeent pill in the bottle. ## Hello, Anncam! How are you? Look at the markings on the tablets and post back with that information. That is what would enable them to be checked to see what they contain or if someone switched them out. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Can you please post back with this information? Thanks!

I am allergic to Codeine and was prescribed Nucynta I am still scared to take it without checking. I have a severe itch reaction to codeine that is worse than the pain I am taking it for. To the point I attempt to claw the blood from my veins ## Hello, Jen! How are you? There is no Codeine in it. Nucynta contains the active ingredient Tapentadol. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Has anyone had the problem with nucynta not working anymore? ## How long have you been taking it? Though the time frame can vary from person to person, it is completely normal for our bodies to eventually get used to the current dosage of any medication we take and for it to begin to be less effective. Learn more Nucynta details here. Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? You may need a dosage adjustment, or to switch to a different medication. ## Indeed a patient will almost always be started on 50mg tabs and as tolerance develops be raised to the maximum of two 100mg tds. Being an SNRI as well as an analgesic raises several issues. Follow Verwon's link and the links found therein and you will learn a lot about tapentadol HCl. My mother was advised to try Nucynta for pain relief. The doasge she is trying is 100mg. She can take a totoal of 600 mg per 24 hr period. If she does not take at least 1 while sleeping will it take longer in the AM to get relief? ## Nucynta contains the active ingredient Tapentadol and is used to relieve moderate to severe pain. As to pain relief, many of these medications are taken on an as needed basis, while they can work better if taken regularly, it is not really necessary to wake her in the middle of the night to take a dose, it will still help to alleviate her pain if she just takes it when she arises in the morning. The difference in the length of time it takes to help relieve her pain will not be really significant. The only time you really have to worry about such a precise d...

I need a pain Meditation that is Not as high risk for Addiction..i have told that Nuycnta er is not as addictive as other pain medicines is this true ## Hi, Rhonda! How are you? All of the narcotic opiates have the potential to be habit forming and addictive, including Nucynta. And a person who has had a problem with addiction in the past is more prone to develop one with any new medication introduced that has addictive potential. Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? They may be able to help you discover a viable option. Outside of the narcotics, there are some pretty strong NSAIDs, but they aren't going to help much with severe pain. What have you already tried?

Anyone know of any in the southeastern KY area?? Been seeing this one for 4-5 years and now he's not even here, went on active duty with the navy. I have had neck AND back surgery. Been on Nucynta 100mgs and Lortab 10's for breakthru pain, now as of the 23rd of this month I will have nothing and be in agony, in the bed day in and day out. Really would appreciate some advice and input please. I have the MRI's and proof I need pain meds. ## His office didn't provide you with a referral or any advanced warning that he was leaving? Have you found a new doctor, yet? What I'd suggest, if you haven't, is that you call your local hospital and see if they have a social work or assistance department. They usually have information on resources to help you find a doctor that...

Hello Everyone, I've been taking Nucynta for about two months now, and I have a very special dinner party that I'm going to be attending with my husband. I'm not a big drinker, but the thought of socializing with new people makes me nervous! Has anyone had one alcoholic drink while taking Nucynta? I asked my pharmacist if I could have just one drink, and he told me he couldn't tell me it would be OK to drink while taking Nucynta, for legal issues. I know people aren't supposed to drink while on opiates, due to respiratory issues, but I've had an occasional glass of wine and been fine. I just haven't drank while on Nucynta - and I don't know how different this drug is in regards to other opiates? I'd appreciate the feedback! ## Actually, I'd have t...

will one 50 Mg nucynta..taken almost 24 hrs prior to testing show up in a standard 10 panel pre employment urine drug test? a friend gave it to me when I hurt my back..so I don't have a scrip..I do have a scrip for meperidine.. will they show up the same? ## Both medications will be detected as exactly what they are on any test that looks for the specific opiate metabolites. However, there are tests that just check for the presence of opiates and not the specific ones. Learn more drug testing details here. Do you know any other specifics on the test?

Hi there, New to this forum, and appreciate any replies/feedback. My PM doc (who has changed my meds each visit x3) Rx'ed Nucynta 50mg 3x day, a change from Percocet 10/325mg 3x day for BTP. Also switched to Oxycontin 10mg every 12 hours (from Opana ER) Stated he wished to "lighten any burden on my lungs" given my medical status: pulmonary nodules which are increasing in size, both lungs, biopsy next month; severe asthma, residual COPD S/P bilateral PE's 10 years ago. Using Symbicort inhaler. I am uncertain how Nucynta would lighten the burden on my lungs, given the warning about lung conditions/impairment, and specifically asthma--of course, respiratory depression can occur with many pain meds. I also have hypothyroidism & seizures, which are both listed in precauti...

My doctor put me on this drug as a replacement for oxycodone and it does nothing for my chronic rsd are there other pain meds that will give me the relief like oxycodone did. ## Because everyone reacts differently to prescription drugs (especially narcotic pain meds), there's really no way to tell ahead of time how any medication will effect you. Some patients may get great pain relief from Nucynta, while others may have to opt for oxycodone, hydrocodone (vicodin), opana, or dilaudid, for the same relief. Have you already asked your doctor about switching medications to something that may be more effective? ## Yes,I will see my regular pain management dr. In a week and ask to go on something else, they told me oxycodone was taken off the market, the pharmiscy said that its still ava...

I am using Fentanyl 25mg patch for chronic back pain. Is it ok to use nucynta ER 50mg for breakthrough pain? ## Has your doctor prescribed them both? It is unusual to prescribe 2 time released medications, together. That's not usually the way breakthrough pain is handled, usually there is one time released medication and one instant release, or regular release medication, because they help with pain much faster than a time released medication.
