Will I still get my menstral cycle while taking 80 mg of megestrol acetate? I'm getting cramps and backache like I do before my period normally starts. ## Hi Vanessa, The only side effect of Megestrol that I found relating to the menstrual cycle is, "bleeding between menstrual periods". This is listed on a drug monograph from The US National Library of Medicine at: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMHT0011066/?report=details#side_effects I don't know when you might expect to start your cycle again, but to my understanding, anything that alters your hormone levels (such as drugs like Megestrol) could inevitably result in changes to the timing of your cycle as well, since hormones are directly related. How long have you been taking it for?

I am petrified to take this pill. I am already significantly overweight with large abdominal hernias. Makes it difficult to walk. I am almost 60 and a heavy smoker. Is my doctor trying to kill me? My god... he said if I didn't take it I would probably develop uterine cancer as my lining is thick and I have heavy bleeding every month or so lasint 15 days or more. Anyone know of other options? My father has kidney and bone cancer and has not been eating very much. His doctor just have him Megestrol AC 20mg tab stating that is has synthetic thc in it that should help his appetite. He has no problem taking that. However nowhere have I seen thc mentioned anywhere. So my question is. Is that at all true? Is there synthetic thc in this medication? My mother had congested heart failure and kidney failure 2 mo ago her kidneys are fine but she has a weak heart and lost all her appetite I need to show her Dr what are the ingredients of Megestrol AC to see if she can take this.He need to make sure it does not have steroids. Can you help me ? ## Megestrol Acetate is a steroidal progestin and progesterone derivative and, due to some of the side effects it can cause, it is probably not safe for her to use, because of the congestive heart failure. Is megestrol used to control hot flashes in men who have had prostate cancer radiation and harmone therapy? ## I did come across a study done on "Megestrol acetate for the prevention of hot flashes"; which you can view by following the link below: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8028614 It seems as though it would be pretty effective, as the study mentioned that hot flashes were reduced by 85% after four weeks on megestrol. The degree of efficacy was also noted to be similar in men and women. On a side note: Megestrol is a man-made version of the human hormone progesterone, and is commonly used by cancer patients, so I do believe that it is an option for those who have had prostate cancer radiation and hormone therapy. i dont know what tis pill is one droped out if my pill case and i dont want to take the wrong pill ## This is a 20mg Megestrol tablet, which is used for hormone replacement therapy. Side effects may include: nausea, headache and dizziness. Is there anything else I can help with?
