Maximum Pause 500 Tablet

I am 52.I was given Pause 500 for 5 days to stop bleeding. during next menstruation bleeding became once more abundant. my physician prescribed more pause 500 for 5 more days. Is it safe to take it? what is the maximum number of days can it b taken? any side effects?thanks

However, at your age, this type of bleeding is usually caused by low progesterone levels, because you may not be ovulating each month to produce enough to stabilize your menstrual cycle.

Estrogen is the hormone that allows the endometrial lining to build each month, in preparation for a possible pregnancy and then progesterone joins in when the egg is released, if no pregnancy is detected, then progesterone falls off, this allows estrogen and the MMPs in your body to take over, so a menstrual cycle occurs. Thus, if you aren't producing enough progesterone, because you aren't ovulating each month, there is nothing to stop the estrogen from building a very thick lining and to keep the MMPs from breaking it down, which can result in a heavy and/or prolonged menstrual flow.

Thus, the solution could be as simple as supplementing back your progesterone and is something you may want to discuss with your doctor as it would be a better long term solution than repeated courses of this medication.
