Hi, Ann! How are you feeling?

All medications carry the risk of side effects, including this one. It contains the active ingredient Tranexamic Acid and its side effects are usually related to gastrointestinal issues and may include nausea and diarrhea.

It should be safe to use as long as you have your doctor's approval.

However, at your age, this type of bleeding is usually caused by low progesterone levels, because you may not be ovulating each month to produce enough to stabilize your menstrual cycle.

Estrogen is the hormone that allows the endometrial lining to build each month, in preparation for a possible pregnancy and then progesterone joins in when the egg is released, if no pregnancy is detected, then progesterone falls off, this allows estrogen and the MMPs in your body to take over, so a menstrual cycle occurs. Thus, if you aren't producing enough progesterone, because you aren't ovulating each month, there is nothing to stop the estrogen from building a very thick lining and to keep the MMPs from breaking it down, which can result in a heavy and/or prolonged menstrual flow.

Thus, the solution could be as simple as supplementing back your progesterone and is something you may want to discuss with your doctor as it would be a better long term solution than repeated courses of this medication.
