I am having some side effects from the iron infusion that a I had a few day ago. These side effect include exhaustion, nausea, metallic taste in my mouth and major flu like symptoms. I have another infusion in less than a week. How long does it take to for symptoms to pass? I am so scared to go again on Tuesday. I would appreciate any information in regards to these issues. Thank you.

Just got Injectafer on Thursday. Went to the Er Friday morning with my bones hurting so badly and felt like I was in labor. My levels have been in the low 7’s for 3 weeks now. The Er dr said it was side effects of the Injectafer. Headache from hell. They gave me pain meds and sent me home. Only way I can get some sleep is with the lortab. I wished I had found this site before taking it!

Is there anyone with anything positive to say about injectafer? It has been prescribed for me but comments on this site make me doubt getting it. Has it been good for anyone? Supposed to get it by the end of today.

Please have your phosphorus levels checked. Low levels is a side effect of injectafer that is not usually known. I was having real bad bone pain in my neck and headaches. There is another thread on this site that explains more.

I had an infusion of 1000mg Feriject on Monday. They told me I may experience a headache or muscle pain in the following days. I started with a headache that felt like someone was trying to scrape my brain into a tiny metal box; I took something for the headache and went to sleep. I woke up feeling awful, I've had flu like symptoms for two days. I can barely move my neck. I was so wiped out from this, yesterday I fell asleep during the day for 3 hours and went to sleep again at 8:30 that night. What causes this type of reaction?

Hello, Kimberly! How are you?

Unfortunately, some side effects might not ever go away, which can be the major drawback of iron infusions. Some people do end up with lifelong joint pain, muscle aches and etc. as reported by the FDA.

It doesn't happen to everyone, but it is a possibility, so you may want to discuss it with your doctor, before the next infusion.

Is there anything else I can help with?
