Folbic; Vite-vert Forte (Top voted first)

Updated

Wife uses Folbic and has for several years (colonectomy). I am retired and have been forced to change insurance. New insurance (AARP Medicare Rx) forces me to use selected pharmacies (for us Walgreens). Walgreens doesn't have Folbic and forced me to buy Vite-Virt Forte for 73.17 (90 Tabs). I think this is a lot more than I paid for Folbic. Can anyone else validate this?

I am also a Walgreens customer and was told Folbic was no longer available. I was changed to Vert-Vite, but seem to be having an allergic reaction. It also seemed to be more expensive. Can anyone verify if Folbic is still available somewhere besides Walgreens? Thank you!

same experience. folbic was $23.05, what they want to substitute is other with exactly same ingredients, for @ $83. drugs are biggest rip-off, next to banks and insurance companies. maybe not in that order.

I don't know if your wife still needs to use folbic, but it is still available. I am taking it and have been since Feb of 2015. I would definitely check your other pharmacies.

From my findings there don't appear to be any official announcements stating that Folbic is off the market. However, a drug monograph by NIH.gov (shown here) depicts Folbic's marketing status as being one that's "unapproved". Hard to tell what they mean by that in so far as the current availability of Folbic is concerned.

I would just encourage others to call around and see what different pharmacies have to say and whether or not it's something they carry. I know John (original poster) mentioned having to stick with Walgreens due to insurance coverage, but as an alternative, what if you found another pharmacy that carried Folbic and simply used an RX Savings Card in place of insurance (for the purpose of cutting costs) just to have the freedom to use another pharmacy? Maybe that's something to consider?

Hope this helps!

Just picked up Folbic RF at local pharmacy for $30.19. Medicare does not pay for it.
