I'm an 18 year old girl who has trouble sleeping. I found that Florinal helps but last night i took 5 pills of 30 mg. When i woke up this morning and all thorugh out the day i have been having severe stomach pain. what is happening to my body? How is the 5 pills affecting it? ## Im not a Dr but sounds like too me too much aspirin. Five pills is a lot of aspirin(at least 200mg per pill)just my opinion. ## Firstly, I am not a doctor but Fiorinal is not a treatment for sleeplessness. I'm unclear as to which Fiorinal you're taking. If it is Fiorinal C 1/2 grain, that would contain 30 mg Codeins but it also contains 325 mg of ASA. If this is what you took, you have consumed a massive dose of ASA and this would indeed explain the stomach troubles. Fiorinal should always be taken w...

white cricle ## This is a generic form of something called Fiorinal, (the generic ingredients are butalbitol (a sedative), caffeine and aspirin). It is used for serious migraine headaches. It is a very common migraine medication. It is not a controlled substance; however, it can make you very very tired after the caffeine loses its effect. ## Butalbital is a member of the barbituate family, so it can be physically addicting ( 'habit forming'). Your experience may vary. My experience with Fiorinal was that I DID build up a tolerance, so that the doctor had to prescribe me ever larger & larger doses, taken more & more often. However, I was not aware of any withdrawal symptoms when I was not taking the stuff. ## The pill has west word 785 what is it. ## Westward and it'...

Generic capsules don't work as well as the brand name "Fiorinal," but it's very expensive (about $3 per capsule). I actually have found the generics to worsen my headache!! You may want to try Creighton generic--I think it is manufactured at the same plant that makes the brand name Fiorinal. Taking a larger dose is NOT effective and can cause severe stomach problems because of the aspirin, and may lead to ulcers. The best (and only effective one I found) generic tablet was by Westward, which doesn't manufacture it anymore--I have been writing to try to get them to change their business policy on this. Maybe if a lot of us write to them they may change their mind????

Does anyone know of an effective pain killer for Trapezius Muscle Tension Migraine Headache? I used Fiorinal with Codeine by Watson, Brand Name Only, since 1998. But something is not the same about that drug anymore. It simply does not knock out the pain. I am not addicted to it. I am able to go days without it, when there is no pain and I can function. It's too bad that the drug has been changed in some way, because my life is now spent on the couch most days of the month because of the unrelenting excruciating musculoskeletal migraines. I am trying to find another pain killer, since Fiorinal with Codeine has been changed and no longer works. I wish the manufacturer(s) would listen to us who use their product and believe us when we tell them the change they've made in the drug ...

I am in desperate need of this for chronic migranes. Since I went on Medicare with great prescription coverage, they still are refusing to cover. Any options? This med has been a life saver for me and worry about the future. ## Hello, Sally! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. Each page of this website has a link to print a pharmacy discount card that may make it cheaper for you. Its free to sign up for, it's usually towards the lower right of each page, you just click the link, put in your email address and print it. Alternatively, you could try asking your pharmacy which ones they accept and which makes it cheapest. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia and nervou...

What drug stores in alexandria la carry generic for fiorinal Butalbital asa caffeine tablets. 50-325-40 ## Hello, Ann! How are you? I'm sorry, but there is no directory of pharmacies that have any given medication or its generic in stock. And from what I can tell, there is currently a shortage and I am not sure if this product will actually be returning to the market, or not. Have you tried consulting your doctor about trying an alternative medication? ## Of course the doctor has suggested another medication but it is either more expensive or under patent so again more expensive or capsules so more expensive. Are you seeing a pattern here?

Pill capsule blue and yellow marked sandoz 78-23 help ??? ## Hi Jake, The closest match I'm finding to your description is a blue and yellow capsule marked with "S F-C" on the blue half and the word "Sandoz" over "78-107" on the yellow half in red letters. It's reported to be Fiorinal w/ Codeine, containing 325mg of Aspirin + 50mg of Butalbital + 40mg of Caffeine + 30mg of Codeine; marketed for treating headaches. Since this bears a similar imprint to your pill, I'd be curious to know if yours could be the same type of medication. One thought though would be to contact Sandoz directly to see if this is the case or not. Their customer service department for product inquiries can be reached at: 1 (800) 525-8747 I hope this helps!

Need an other prescription for fiorinal #3.Will a different pharmacy fill it if I self pay ## Hi Joe, To my knowledge, pharmacies do keep track of what prescriptions are being filled under the same name, so if your worried about filling two prescriptions of the same medication within a short period of time and the pharmacy questions you, it might be a good idea to have your doctor call it in on your behalf to justify any possible discrepancies that could arise as a result of filling too early. On the other hand, if your doctor gave you a prescription for it, then I don't see why the pharmacy wouldn't fill it whether you decide to self pay or go through insurance? Sometimes out of pocket expenses can actually be a cheaper option depending on what coverage you have and if you util...

I have been taking them for years; prefer the original but can't find. I just got some 8 mos ago or so from Prime Mail. Since it is a controlled med., have to go to Dr's next week and get the script and bring it to Rite Aid or Price Chopper Pharmacy(New York State). I've always speicified Tabs not caps. good Luck! ## I went to pick up my script for the tabs and I looked first before I left the office. they wrote capsules. I don't want capsules and I have never gotten them. Took it back and Insisted on tabs and I said I know they still come in tabs. she looked it up and I ahd to wait a ttl of 30 mins. for the old script to get re written/new script for tabs. I took it to PC Pharmacy and spoke w/ the Pharmacist. said if you can't get them as written-Tabs- pls, call and...

I called Westward/Actavis, emailed FDA. All say it was a business decision to keep capsules not tablets. Tablets work better. No heads up stopped in 2013. I can't even find any leftovers which must be somewhere? Call Westward 856-424-3700. Maybe if we overwhelm them w/calls, they will see there is a BIG Market for this drug and start making it again. It's worth a try. ## Hey Patty, Overwhelming them with calls/request letters may unfortunately be one of the only ways to get their attention about people wanting Fiorinal tablets back. If they say it was a business decision to keep capsules, my guess is that it was probably because they were cheaper for them to manufacture that way. But when we as both consumers and patients aren't satisfied with a product, it would probably ta...

I know the Westward brand-they are no longer making-but CVS has told me they can't get the tablet form of the generic brand of fiorinal-so I have to look elsewhere ## Hello, Suz! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having! And no, the tablets are no longer available, just the capsules. There have been many people that don't like them as well, or who feel they don't work as well, but there's really nothing that can be done about it. Have you tried any other medications? Perhaps your doctor can help you find an alternative. ## Is there any place in the worlds to get fiorinal tablets? Canada? Any place? I need them bad! Migraines. Nothing else works! Tell Actavis to start making them again!!!!

I have been using fiorinal with codine for at least 12 years for Lupus and Migranes. The generic does not work as well, so I pay for brand. My question is there a safe place to order, the pharmies are so strict about the 30 day and I never have enough. My dr. Will not encrease the dose, though it has not been changed in ten yrs. I am tired of the treatment at the pharmies, and the withdrawal I suffer almost every month. The Goverment has control of my Pain????

I have been seeing a pain management dr.since april and she gave me dilaudid2mg 5times a day, plus fiorinal for breakthrough pain. I have severechronic headaches and neck pain due to a pinched nerve. I also have degenerative disc in my lower back. I don't know what to do. will I have withdrawel problems from this?Thank You ,Sally ## Hello, SallY! How are you? If you stop taking them abruptly you may suffer some withdrawal effects. They can include nausea, diarrhea, rebound pain and chills. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi Vernwon,(hope I spelled it right), thanks for replying so quickly. I suppose the main concern is that will the withdrawals will put me in the hospital, have cardiac arrest or possibly go into a coma from not having the medications. I know all of this so...

I am so sad that this is no longer available in a tablet, but only in capsule form. I usually take 3/4 of a pill and chop it and carry the pieces in a small plastic bag. Why would you take more medication than you need to solve a problem. I see on this blog that several have been chopping the pill in half, and like me this is one of the only resources I have left in medication for migraines. I'm allergic to a lot of medication. If only someone knew how we already suffer, they'd never make it harder for us. ## So relieved that I am not alone in my need and want for Fiorinal in the tablet form. The capsules do nothing to relieve the pain and upset stomach of a migraine headache. Fioricet is just as ineffective. Does anyone know if the tablets are available from a Canadian Pharmacy...

Watson Fiorinal with codeine works better for me that the product subsuted by the pharmasist :Ascomp with codeine. Please tell me why.Iam sure they are not equal. ## There can be slight fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredients from one generic to another and when going from the name brand to a generic. Thus, you may have been given one that's slightly lower in the dosage, so it doesn't work as well for you. You can learn more Fiorinal details here and you can learn more Codeine details here. If your insurance requires them to give you the generic, if it's available, then you may want to ask your doctor to write your prescription as brand medically necessary, so they'll pay for it in the future. Alternatively, in many cases your body will adjust in a week or tw...

Is there any Patient Assistance Programs for this medication in the USA? ## Hello, HisAngel! How are you? Unfortunately no, I cannot find a program for this medication. Have you consulted your doctor to see if there are any alternatives you can try that may be cheaper? ## I am sorry I have not been back to this thread. Thank you for the reply. I have managed to get some financial medical assistance and able now to get my medication. Again thank you so much for trying to help. Much appreciated!

fiorinal tablets made by westward are no longer because westward is under fda investigation. some manufacturing plant problem. thats all i have found out. maybe we should bombard westward and fda for the absoulute need for a medicine that helps us to function and be contributing citizens of society. we also should have been given a head's up, this was cruel.

Spoke with Watson. Say that tabs are discontinued! I like the tabs as I can cut in half etc. ## Hi blondy, I haven't come across any specific details or announcements stating that the Fiorinal tabs have actually been discontinued. Actavis is the new "Watson" now since they recently bought them out. However, they come off to me as a pretty shady company, so it could be that they're slowly replacing some of the original Watson products without making any big announcements about it. That's just one theory anyway. Does anyone else have information on the availability of these tablets?

Hi- what is the reason we can no longer buy/get Fiorinal ? I don't understand and the "6 PM news" has never reported a word about this! ## Hello, Jr! How are you? The news wouldn't report it, unless it was a recall or something due to reasons that could be very dangerous. They typically don't report on drug shortages, or when something has just been removed from the market. And I've done quite a bit of searching, but I'm sorry, I've been unable to find any information on why it is no longer available. From what I can find, Fioricet is still available, which replaces the Aspirin with Acetaminophen. Learn more Fioricet details here. So you may want to ask your doctor about prescribing it, instead. Does anyone else know more on this?
