I have been on this drug for Hypercholesterolaemia on and off for a couple of years but each time I have a constant chesty cough and sinus problems. The cough just doesn't stop and I get hardly any sleep. I used to take codeine tablets at night and this stopped the cough however I didn't want to continue on these as my doctor said they are addictive. So I am at my wits end. I have been on statins but my doctor took me off them as I suffered with side effects of painful muscles. I am getting really depressed as now I do not want to go out to public places as I always take really bad coughing fits. ## Hello, Liz! How are you? Yes, it is known to cause those types of symptoms as side effects, along with nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. Have you spoken to your doc...

I started taking Fenofibrate 17 days ago. Every since then I have been in bed weak, nauseous, shaking, sudden onset of hot flashes, stomach and rib cramps and sweating something fierce! I thought I had the flu but never ran a temp and it just doesn't feel like the flu. Today I have been SO weak and it is scaring me. I am almost positive it is the Fenofibrate! My body feels on the inside like you feel when you have pushed yourself during exercise or running. Tingly and shaky. My blood oxygen levels are at 99% though. I am not taking this stuff any more! How long does it take to get it out of your body?? ## I am so very sorry about the problems you're experiencing, however, those can be typical side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA . I'm taking Lipanthyl 145 once every day for sometime with Micardis 40mg once a day, then I reduce to one tablet every other day for two months in process to stop Lypanthyl gradually. Once I stop it after three days I get like Angina symptoms and hard to breath and the symptoms was horrible, I checked Triglyceride through Prima and I found my reading jumped to 3.7mmoI/L (with medication once every other day was between 1.8-2.1 mmoI/L). I learned this medication should not stopped suddenly but gradually like Blood pressure medications. My question how I can stop Triglyceride medication? And is these symptoms I get because of stopping Lypanthyl? And thank you for answer. ## Hello, Neion! How are you? What are you stopping it? Has your doctor approved of your doing so? If it is the only...

Hello everybody. I have really high cholesterol but for some reason everytime I take a Statin it causes unbearable worsened depression. the doctors say it can't , but everytime I try it it does the same thing and I desperately need to get my cholesterol down, it isn't diet related, but sedentary life and chronic pain I fear. the way I the Statin makes me feel, I rather take my chances. PLEASE, are there others out there that get this reaction? If so should I try to get through a couple of weeks to see if it calms down? Doc says it can't cause this but they are wrong, I lost faith in them. The creator took 5 days to cause unbearable despair, there's only took one day. Anyone? I don't know what to do. ## Hello, Denabee! How are you? Depression is indeed listed by the F...

I Have extreme high Tryglycerites levels 940. Went to a Lipids clinic(when they tested down to 360 for some reason) and they said it wasn't lifestyle but heredity. I have been taking Fenofibrate for 30 days now and have developed a sharp pain in my upper right abdomen. Is this a concern????? ## Hello, Shane! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you've been having. Were you fasting, before these tests? If not, then the extremely high numbers may not have been accurate. As to the pain, yes, it would be best to have this checked out by your doctor to be certain. It may just be a side effect, or it may be something more serious. Fenofibrate is listed by the FDA as being used to help lower cholesterol and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, heada...

If you are on fenofibrate, do you have to be on it all your life? ## Not necessarily! Some people do manage to lower their cholesterol levels successfully and keep them low, via healthy diet and exercise, so they are then able to stop such medications. It can vary from person to person and may include such factors as how high their cholesterol has gone. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks for the info. My Doctor told me that I would have to be on it for life even if my levels dropped.

Hi, I have been taking fenofibrate for only a month and haven't had any problems. I have not been able to refill for about a week due to the cost. I have been having an odd chest pain the past couple of days. It isn't a consistent pain, just every now and again. Could this be caused from me stopping this medication? ## Hello, Katriano! How are you feeling? Anytime you have chest pain that you've not had before and cannot be sure of, you should seek medical attention to have it checked out immediately. It's just not worth the risk of sitting around and hoping it's just from stopping a medication. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness and headache. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm having muscle pains which I think are due to taking Fibril. My doctor prescribed this med because my tryglycerides were high. I've had high blood pressure and hypertension for thirty years and take Simvastatin and Blopress plus. My readings for BP are always good. I'm 65, have never smoked and competed to a high level in sports and I am still in the gym everyday. I'm also a non meat eater. Is there a better med for me to take other than Fibril. Thanks in advance. Tj.

Good day to all. I went to the hospital a few weeks ago with weird chest pains. Nothing was found even through stress test. One thing the did find is triglycerides were at 500 should be 150. They put me on fenofibrite I think this is how you spell it. But after 24 days my body aches all the time even when I take a pain pill. Also I am feeling so worn out. I sit down for 30 mins and I am asleep before I know it. Libido is kinda not there either. What in the world is going on? I also take BP meds for 3 years now. ## Hello, Vernon! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're feeling so miserable. However, these cholesterol lowering medications are very well known to cause such side effects, according to the FDA, you may also experience, nausea, dizziness and headache. Things may improv...

My husband got prescribed the medication - LIPIDIL (Fenofibrate) 145mg x 1 tablet daily, another medication is - SIMVAR (Simvastatin) 40mg x 1 tablet daily, mainly to lower his cholesterol level and triglycerides in the blood. My question is, because we are trying to get pregnant every month, does anybody know that the two medications above will decrease men's sperm count and sperm quality? ## No, they aren't known to cause problems with sperm count and quality, but they may cause some sexual dysfunction, such as erectile dysfunction. You should both know to keep an eye out for such problems, so he can contact his doctor is they do start occurring. ## Thank you very much! Maybe there's not much research report on medications that will cause problems to men's sperm count ...

I am currently taking fenofibrate. I just switched jobs and my prescription coverage won't take effect for another month. I am out of fenofibrate, but have a prescription of atorvastatin that I never used. Would it cause me any issues if I took the atorvastatin until my prescription coverage kicks in?? ## Hello, Link Ogle! How are you? They aren't in the same medication class, So, I'm actually not sure how well the switch would work. Have you checked with your doctor? A quick phone should garner an answer for you. The Atorvastatin tends to be more problematic, as far as side effects are concerned, it can cause nausea, headache, dizziness and joint/muscle aches.
