The 3 and the 5 are separated by scoring in the pill and the flip side has a half moon imprint on it. ## small blue pill with a M and on the other side has a 3 and a 5 seperated with a vertical line ## The blue tablet with the M E5 on it contains 2mgs of Estradiol, which is a sex hormone, mostly predominant in women. Thus, it is frequently used for HRT. Learn more Estradiol details here. Being a synthetic hormone, it does carry some risks, such as increased risk of clotting, headaches, weight gain and dizziness. As to the original tablet, however, I haven't been able to find anything on that one. Does anyone else recognize it?

I have been taking these pills for exactly 21 days, I have not had a period in about a year, and have not taken birth control pills for over 21 years. It was prescribed for menopause symptoms. This morning I woke up with cramps and bleeding. Is this normal? ## Yes, these are synthetic hormones, the estradiol is a form of estrogen and the norethindrone is a progestin, which is a synthetic progesterone, so the rebalancing of your body's hormones can cause those types of side effects. I took Estra-noreth for 3 1/2 weeks and stopped taking it. I started spotting and vaginal bleeding. I have not had a period in 7 years and started this drug for hot flashes. Is it normal to bleed upon stopping the drug? ## Hi T Smith, Based on my research, vaginal spotting or breakthrough bleeding is a side effect of Estra-noreth (Estradiol + Norethindrone). It's possible that it is still in your system and is trying to work its way out. If this problem worsens I would definitely contact your doctor, just to be safe. I hope this helps!

i am about to switch from Avaine 28 to microgestin Fe 1/20 . I really like the Avaine and have gotten used to it but no longer have insurance and are able to get the BC from planned parenthood. Im wondering if this will be a good replacement and what should i expect from switching? ## Well, the Microgestin contains Norethindrone and Ethinyl Estradiol, where in place of the former the Aviane contained Levonorgestrel. They work the same, but it really depends on your body and how it reacts to these specific hormones. In my case, I had a lot of problems with ones that contained Norethindrone, I experienced a lot more breakthrough bleeding, acne and vaginal dryness. Once I was switched to one with the Levonorgestrel, I didn't experience those problems any longer, so you may want to watc...
