Antibiotic allergies

I currently have a tooth abcess that my endodontist is trying to treat. The problem he is having is that I am allergic to the antibiotics that are best at treating this. I am allergic to penicillin, erythromycin, cephalosporins. We tried cipro but that did not do much after 2 weeks. Is there another antibiotic I can try? ## Are you able to take the sulfa based ones, such as Bactrim? It can cause some nasty side effects and there is the risk of being allergic for about 3% of people, which is why I don't usually recommend it to anyone, but it may be your best option. Learn more Bactrim details here. It's worth asking him about it to see if it may work, anyway.

Will just one or two pills of Erythromycin help or hinder?

I am on Erythromycin 100s twice per day from my doc. My roommate, has a tooth ache or ear ache or something and wants to take one to "give his immune system a boost" he claims. I Don't think just taking one will do that much good, and it might do harm. I really don't know. Should I give him one? ## You are correct, it really isn't going to help and, since it will not be enough to clear up an infection, if one is present, it creates the risk of the development of antibiotic resistant bacteria, which could lead to serious health issues. Your roommate should see his own doctor, or dentist and get proper treatment for whatever is causing the problem. Is there anything else I can help with?

who can take them

can my mum take these with taking warfarin and bloodpressure tablets ## Erythromycin is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of infections. In regards to using it with the Warfarin, it can be done, but the doctor must carefully consider the dosage, because it can increase the blood thinning effect of the Warfarin. As to the blood pressure medications, I can't really answer that, without knowing what they are. Is her doctor and pharmacy aware of everything that she is taking?
