As explained by the title above, I'm seeking a substitute for coumadin which I have been taking for some time because of atrial fibrilation. I've done a lot of research and have found a number of possible substitutes, primarity proteolitic enzymes. The problem is that they work by a different mechanism from coumadin and do not affect PT/INR. I'm leaning toward Serrapepsidase and need infrormation about the test to determine correct dosage. I will be obliged for any help I may receive from youl ## In the case, I can really only advise you to consult a doctor. As you well know, the correct dosage used of any medication for these purposes must be carefully calculated and that is usually done by taking under consideration the results of your blood tests. In addition, you have to...

I am coumadin and have a terrible time with level fluctuations. I bleed very quickly. What is the interaction problem with sulfatrim? I am taking it for a sinus infection. ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, the active ingredients in Bactrim, is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of infections. When taken with Coumadin, which contains the active ingredient Warfarin, the plasma concentrations of the Coumadin can be increased, meaning that you are absorbing more of the medication than usual and your body isn't processing it out at the normal rate. This can result in increased bleeding dangers. Does your doctor know you are on both of these?

my father is on 10mg of coumadin, and he was recently prescribed aggrenox. He is also taking k/dur, demadex, xanax, lortab, ambien, lexapro, and teveten. I am worried that there is a danger in him taking aggrenox because of the fact that it contains aspirin. ## 10 mg of coumadin is a large dose. Why is he on this large a dose??? I find this very interesting. ## June, I am not sure if you will get a response, since this post was made almost 4 years ago. The dosage, however, varies from individual to individual, there is no standard dosing for Coumadin/Warfarin. It is decided by testing the clotting factor in the person's blood, then a dosage adjustment is made, if needed. ## I am taking Aggrenox for tia. I fell today and think I injured my ribs. Is there any pain meds I can take that...

Why does a doctor put a patient on coumadin? I was put on it after developing a blood clot after aneurysm surgery. And have been on it for lmost two years. ## Coumadin is a medication that thins out your blood, so that you will not have any blood clots happen. It's a very good medication. Just be VERY CAREFUL NOT TO CUT YOURSELF, reason being is that since your blood is thinned out you will bleed more and its takes longer to stop the bleeding. Also you will bruise yourself a lot faster too if you bump into something. You should always ask your Dr. why he/she is giving you this medication and any others and also have them explain it to you so that you fully understand and you can always ask a pharmacist about any and all medications. Also you did'nt say how many mg you are taking...

My mother is on coumadin and can't seem to get regulated. Her arms are very sore and bruised because of all the blood tests. She was just told to cut down on leafy green vegetables. Is there anything else that might help? ## why would my INR be reversing if my prescription is the generic version of coumadin/warfarin since 11/05....for some reason it is dropping like crazy...the doctor is increasing the dosage ...your thoughts ## My grandfather is on Cumadin and cannot eat green veggs either ## The reason they tell people on this medication not to eat certain leafy green vegetables is because they contain Vitamin K, which can also thin your blood. A doctor with more experience using the drug, however, usually adjusts the drug to the person's diet and not vice-versa. As long as th...

## I have a good (female) friend that has Restless Leg Syndrome & takes Cumaden every night just before she retires. Most nights she will have a couple glasses of wine and then take the Cumaden. Any problem with this? CMS (Florida) ## does cumaden have any effect on gout? ## Coumadin contains the active ingredient Warfarin, which is used primarily as a blood thinner. I cannot find any information relating to it and gout, perhaps someone else who has more information on this can post?

what are the differences of taking coumadin or aspirin to prevent blood clots ## Coumadin is a much stronger and more reliably tested prescription medication. You should follow your doctor's advice on which one is best for you. ## Verwon, thank you for your reply. My sister is the one that has the problem and she had asked me to look this question up on my computer for her. She is following her doctor's orders, but she still has questions as she doesn't like how she feels taking the coumadin. ## There are many people who don't like Coumadin, there are other options she could speak to her doctor about, Aspirin and Plavix are two of them.
