Change Bupropion Dosage, Weight, Libido
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have been on and off (mostly on) bupropion for about ten years. At first I loved it, great libido and weight loss. After I stopped taking it the first time I gained a ton of weight and depression returned. I got back on it but it wasn't nearly as effective as before. Over the years I've tried others that were better for my depression but I stopped taking them because of the weight gain. I always went back to the bupropion even though it no longer helped with my weight. I've been on 300 XL for about a year now. I'm not depressed but I still have no interest in things, no energy, NO libido whatsoever, and weight gain. I've been wondering lately if I should tapper back my dose or switch to SR to see if I have better luck. Any suggestions or similar experiences?

It was originally prescribed by a family physician, I did go to a mental health place for a while and try some others as well as counseling. In the end we went back to the bupropion. I was doing very well when I was able to take group fitness classes it helped on many levels. But with my job now I am so exhausted after working 10-12 hours every day I've tried going before work and it's counter productive because then I have negative effects from lack of sleep. I've tried getting off meds completely and then my emotions are a rollercoaster and I can't stop thinking about death. Not that I want to but how it could happen at any minute. I wonder if I'm more bipolar but I never feel "on top of the world" I do know I suffer from PTSD. I just need to find the right medication or mix of meds and dosage so I can find motivation in life

What type of doctor have you been consulting? It could be that this just isn't the right medication for you, according to FDA warnings.

What other medications have you tried? You might be better served by consulting a specialist to find out what will work best for you to treat your symptoms.

As to the weight issues, are you also being careful with your diet and making sure to get lots of healthy exercise? No medication can do all the work for us, we also have to take initiative.

Are you on any other medications?
