Benzodiazepine Withdrawal Death (Top voted first)

Updated

I'm scared to death. I've been on 8mgs of xanax for 7 years and on 4mgs of klonopin for 2 years before that. As my tolerance grew so did my need for more xanax but 8mgs is the highest amount allowed to be prescribed. I've tried almost every drug to help with sleep before and nothing worked. I had a doctor that never saw me and all I had to do was pick up my prescription. I never thought I'd lose him. I'm now physically addicted and dependent on xanax. I have gone a day without and I'd rather be dead. I'm near Charlotte Nc and I need an understanding doctor ASAP. I've seized, been to the ER and attempted suicide bcuz the withdrawals are so inhumanely horrible. Nobody should suffer for months like that and it does last for months if you don't end up dying first. Please, I've got kids and a husband and I don't want to give in so I don't suffer, I just need a doctor to put me back on my dose. Can anybody help me???

You need an inpatient treatment program immediately or you do stand a good chance of seizures, strokes, or death. 8 mg is NOT the normal daily recommended dose. For what its worth I take less after almost dying on 3 mg per day and have a spare supply that can see me through a couple years as this can happen to any of us at any time. I hope you get the help you need and soon as this is most serious

A couple of things;

Try to stay positive and reassure yourself that you'll be okay. With xanax withdrawal you typically feel worse than you actually are. It is VERY rare for someone to die from xanax withdrawal although it has happened.

As far as xanax withdrawal going on for months; this is even more rare. It's called protracted withdrawal syndrome. Although being that you were on such a high dose it is very possible that you could experience protracted withdrawal.

You definitely need to be in an inpatient setting where they can, at least, administer you librium and monitor your vitals etc...

Then find a new doctor or psychiatrist that can help you taper off as slowly as possible and give you cognitive behavioral therapy. That's pretty much the only way to overcome the protracted withdrawal.

Doctors must take the hippocratic oath and it is their duty by such oath to act ethically. Leaving you out there to suffer from protracted xanax withdrawal is highly unethical. Pretty much any doctor you go to SHOULD be willing to provide you with xanax and help you taper off of them. Additionally they should provide you with some sort of anti-convulsant to prevent seizures.

I know it's difficult but try to be positive. The withdrawals can also have a placebo effect in the mind that makes you think things are worse than they really are. I know it's tough but hang in there and get help IMMEDIATELY!!

I know it is a inhumane hell. I've experienced it n I completely agree. I don't know a Dr to refill your prescription however if u can't find a quick solution as I know every minute feels like a lifetime when you're suffering in that way, I would suggest a medical detox. They will help you through the process n help minimize your symptoms.
I would highly recommend any one if two facilities as I have been to both and both are excellent. I have been to nearly 10 with my struggle and these two are better by far than any other I've been to or know of.
They are Sunrise in Alpharetta GA . You can Google there info n number.
The other is Novus in central FL. I'm not sure the city as it is in a small town. But you can get there info as well if you google Novus detox in FL.
Detox would provide a permanent solution to your problem. I know your in withdrawal now and not using but suffering from withdrawal while not using but they can still help get you through the withdrawal phase with minimal pain and discomfort.
So I suggest ya give them a call and see what they can do. I understand your pain and my heart and prayers go out to ya but call them and hopefully you can get some relief short and long-term.
Wish you the best

Re: None (# 6) Expand Referenced Message

8 Mg of Diazepam is the equivalent of .80 of one 1 MG Xanax, not a large amount by any means. You are currently in a mental hospital, and have been there for 5 years? Can you leave and possibly go elsewhere?

Re: EDDY (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks for answering me. No i can't leave this hospital and no i have not been here for 5 years. It’s a Long and very sad story but they've cut my dose now and I cannot get them to understand that i need my 10 mg Diazepam per day just to function a little. So i am now so desperate, i try to call out for help and try to see if i could get this med from someone else. I don't sleep, i have now severe heart problems, racing and palpitations all the time. Can not walk, got ataxia, burning skin, bad vision problems and so much more. I am bedridden now because of this CT and afraid now i won't make it if I don't get medication very soon. But the doctors don't listen to me at all so that's why i cry out for help here??

Re: None (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

I'm sorry to hear this. I am not familiar with the laws of benzodiazepines in Denmark, or being hospitalized involuntarily. There is another site that I visit that has vast information available, especially on withdrawal. Perhaps you can search for "Benzo Buds", not the real name of the other resource. A lot of success stories to read, mine would never be one of them...

Re: None (# 10) Expand Referenced Message

For all you know it could be COVID? How long were you in hospital, and when was the last time you took your Valium? Yes you can feel like dying, and yes you can get really sick and suffer a stroke or worse. I showed up at a hospital E.R and they wouldn't let me leave, I was dying inside, and every test done has dangerous results

Re: None (# 12) Expand Referenced Message

My biggest fear when I showed up at my local E.R. 10 years ago was they would turn me away, especially if I mentioned why I thought I was there. My 2nd thought was what if they took me away to a mental facility. I just let them do what they do in an E.R. and there were many life signs that were very wrong, some just like you mentioned. I also thought they might not be able to help in any way, I was very wrong...

Enough about me, how was this hospital "treating" you, or were they just observing you? How much Valium were you on, 1 pill of 10 mg or 8 pills, (80mg) per day? I just read this post from 2014 that I commented on, if this stuff safe, I say no, what about you?
