I have this medication that I dont remember what it was for but I have an infected tooth thats killing me and going into my ear, I have no insurance or funds what dosage would I take this at? I have just started I took one and Im thinking 3 times a day every 8 hours will this help? ## Gregory, Bactrim is not the most effective antibiotic for dental infections.Most hospitals offer a dental clinic based on ability to pay or charity care. started taking Bactrim over a week ago due to an acute kidney infection. Began to experience dizziness a day ago, pain behind the ears started on the left side with a bump and then felt pain on the right side the next morning. Body aches as well. Today I woke up with a rash all over my body that itches and almost has like a burning sensation. Can I take Benadryl with Bactrim to help with the rash? ## Yes, you can experience an allergic reaction that late into a course of it. I had it happen to me 9 and a half days in, I had one dose left, but had to see my doctor and stop taking it. The sad thing is that when i got those bumps, which in my case were swollen glands, I went to the ER and the doctor there did not recognize it as an allergic reaction, so I kept taking it for a few more days...

I am currently prescribed Bactrim and my doctor wants me to switch to Ampicillin. Is this normal? I just took a Bactrim 4 hours ago. white oval pill 5898 ## I was prescribed this pill for a staph infection. It is supposed to be stronger than normal antibiotics for staph and also work on those staph infections that are the drug resistance ones. The pill is actually called cotrimoxazole ds--po tab. I'm assuming the PO meanby mouth then tablet. Thru searches I have found this to also be called Cotrim Oral and Bactrim as well. It states that there are alot of medications you can't be on to take this medication. I didn't take all of it, so I didn't real ly suffer any side effects. I had a severe headache on Tuesday. And the right side of my face mainly my eye and cheek area became swallon. Today I seen my dcotor and he said it could be a few things. I had strep throat, therefore the docter proscribed me the bactrim ds 800 - 160 , he said take 2 a day , for 10 days and I had to finish them. Today is the 5th day , but since I've been taking them my strep throat went away, but then i get fevers everyday,bad headaches,and a my stomach doesn't feel normal,I don't want to eat. I have bactrim that expired in May 2015. Is it safe to take now even though it's outdated? ## Hello, Kenyada! How are you? Having taken Bactrim for about 3 weeks for a prostate infection, it now seems that the first urination after taking the pill exaggerates or possibly causes an extra burning sensation. Yeah I've developed a staph infection and I got Bactrim DS for it I got 30 tablets but my doctor told me to use it for a week and then stop using it and the pharmacist messed up and put on there take one tablet a day and I think it's supposed to be take two tablets by mouth once a day. So I mean I don't have any more staph infections or anything but they come back quite regularly so because I've got hepatitis c. So I know now that next time I need to take two bactrim a day instead of one.
