Atenolol - Teva Or Zydus?

Updated

Which is better for Atenolol? Teva or Zydus? Which works better? Which has less side effects? Teva is a smaller pill than Zydus.

Hello Grammy,

Both brands should have the same side effects because Atenolol is the active ingredient and Teva/Zydus are only the brands. Every person reacts to medication uniquely and thus each person is going to have to decide which brand works best for them.

Although they share the same active ingredient, often brands will have small differences such as size, inactive ingredients, shape, coating etc. I will provide you with some of these details I sourced from the NIH so you can make a more informed decision on which you would prefer to take.

Teva 25mg

size: 6mm

Inactive ingredients:

- Anhydrous Citric Acid
- Croscarmellose Sodium
- Magnesium Stearate
- Silicon Dioxide
- Povidone
- Cellulose, Microcrystalline

Coated

Zydus 25mg

size: 6mm

Inactive ingredients:

- Magnesium Stearate
- Cellulose, Microcrystalline
- Povidone K30
- Sodium Starch Glycolate Type A Potato

Coated

Ultimately these pills are nearly the same only differing really in inactive ingredients. It is worth noting that the Zydus brand includes starch, which deters some people because of gluten intolerance.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

I used to take Atenolol 100mg made by Zydus for my blood pressure and they gave me headache at the back of my head. Has anyone else had this happen?

Your Post is a few years old, I hope you’re ok, that u told your md. My exp with a few brands of atenolol 50mg is wears off early & I start to feel it (have a-fib, arrhythmia, other). Also got jumpy calves. So I took like a 1/4 more. I’d hope all mfgs’ pills are checked random. It was when my favored brand (causes zero side effects and lasts) was out. Good luck.
