BGO Ointment

BGO ointment last distributed by Calotabs Co. in Greenville, SC. Company has apparently closed...not further info. Ointment is an antiseptic, antifungal cream for relief of th athlete's foot, ringworm, hemorrhoids, externally caused blemishes, cracked lips, minor cuts, burn and bruises, corns, itching from burning skin due to sunburn and non venomous insect bites. Contains salicylic acid, sulphur, zinc oxide, phenol calamine, menthol, petrolatum lanolin and mineral oil. Have used this product for over 50 years and it works great. Would be so happy to find a new distributor if one exists. ## This stuff is great. I still have one new bottle since i bought all the local drug store had a few years ago. I too have researched and not found anything on where we might get some more. It is g...

Ketamine for Depression?

It was recommended by the members of a separate thread that one be started that directly relates to ketamine and it's use to treat depression. If anyone besides myself would like to discuss it's use as a treatment for depression, feel free to post your questions, answers and experiences here. This thread is an offshoot of a related one that discussed a treatment of Scopolamine for depression. ## thanks michael- yes, i am very interested in hearing about your experience so far with ketamine. both the iv application and the nasal route. i'm not too keen on the nasal route, but like i said, i will try that first due to cost. so, how you feeling? john ## Thanks for setting up this Discussion Michael! I hope we can share experiences here to help everyone. The cost of getting reli...

Lidocaine patches by PAR

Has anyone used these? My provider wants to send me these instead of the brands I know to be good, such as Qualitest, Actavis, Endo & Watson. They sent Mylan once and these are useless because of the stiff backing. ## Yes, I have them they are worthless, I am reporting these patches to my insurance company, they are not a generic equivalent to the "Brand" patch, which has 700 mg of Lidocaine, Mylan has 140 mg. They fall off after an hour, they are very hard to open. My insurance company sent them years ago I sent them back. Actavis is a great generic and meets what I think are minimum requirements 700 mg of Lidocaine, easy to apply and they stick. ## Par is the generic for endo I am going to try. Actavis is junk too. Call the company and ask for a refund to be sent to your p...

Butesin Picrate - compounding

Hello. I'm from Australia and had been sorry to learn that Butesin Picrate cream was removed from commercial sale. My daughter (a registered pharmacist with Pharmaceutical Compounding exp.) recently suffered burns while she was home cooking: I said my "often quoted regret" about the cream's discontinuation. We have - between us - located the original (1%) pharmaceutical compounding instructions for it and provided it's not large scale manufacture I can arrange to put you in touch with the compounding pharmacy - only in limited supply for individuals though (like many of us who grew up with this cream in our mothers' first aid boxes!). One ingredient (apparently) had cancer-causing discussions at scientific circles... and that's part of the PR disaster that pr...

Ketamine Changed My Life

I am a 35 year old woman who has lived with anxiety and depression most of my life. I think it is both genetic (100% of my family members have some sort of mental illness or depression) and caused by life experiences (growing up with a bipolar father and borderline mother in an unstable home). Since the age of 15, I have been on and off almost every kind of anti-depressant and other assorted drugs. Some helped, but never enough. Nothing stopped me from hitting bottom on a regular basis. I've also been in and out of therapy: most of it was pretty useless. Four years ago, I went off all meds for pregnancy and breastfeeding for about a year and a half. I was ok-ish, but not great. I ended up having to stop breastfeeding so that I could go back on meds because things got so bad. Since t...

Lidocaine pain patch and breathalyzer

Currently I use a lidocaine patch manufactured by Pfizer called Flector. On bad days I will wear 3 to 4 at a time. My doctor mentioned this could possibly be detected by a breathalyzer. Is this true? ## Hello Robbie, I have searched high and low and I cannot find anything at all that would suggest this. I really do hate to disagree with medical professionals as I am not one myself but I just can't seem to find any sources credible or not that claim lidocaine would cause you to fail a breathalyzer. Now I will admit that I have read some claims that if you are taking enough of the Lidocaine patches you could theoretically fail a drug analysis but there has been no credible source or case studies that support this. In the event that such a problem happened you would simply need to expl...

Goprelto Go Go Go!

I was just wondering if anyone has been administered this yet in a medical setting? It is a recently FDA approved nasal solution of cocaine hydrochloride. Yes, you read that correctly, cocaine. According to the NDC it is also available (to properly licensed medical professionals) in 100% powder form. It's labeled/supplied by Genus Life Sciences based and researched out of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Being as the cocoa plant doesn't grow in such a climate I'm assuming that their "main ingredient" is coming from Bolivia and/or Colombia. Either that or it's being grown in greenhouses. ## Anyone seen or heard of this Goprelto being used as an anesthetic? Of what condition/procedure for which it would be used as an anesthetic? ## Is it being used as pain management medic...

diclofenac 3% / gabapentin 6% / baclofen 2% / lidocaine 5% cream

This cream (diclofenac 3% / gabapentin 6% / baclofen 2% / lidocaine 5%) and doxepin hydrochloride 5% cream is supposed to be used for pain in my knee and back. I found the second cream but the first which contains four different items is hard to track down. The warnings and interactions is what I am concerned about. ## Generally, these creams can vary from doctor to doctor, and they need to be made by a compounding pharmacist. Thus, they aren't usually "in stock" anywhere, they are made specifically according to what your doctor has ordered. Do you have a compounding pharmacy in your area? The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including skin irritation, redness, flaking, and burning. ## The compounding pharmacy is about thirty miles away and they use UPS for del...

How Come I Cant Find Viractin Cold Sore Treatment In Any Drug Store

Viractin Cold Sore Treatment was the BEST. I have suffered with coldsores for years. This was the best treatment I have come acrossed. A small amount of this product and no more coldsore. I haven't found an answer to my question yet. Is Viractin still available over counter or do I need a prescription for it? ## I am sorry, but Viractin has been discontinued by the manufacturer. It contained the active ingredient Tetracaine, which was a topical anesthetic, so it really did nothing to shorten the duration of a cold sore, though the moisturizing effects of it could help keep them from drying out and cracking and bleeding. You may want to try a different over the counter product, such as Abreva, which contains Docosanol, it is an antiviral, which can shorten the duration of a cold sore...

The 2018 Ketamine Shortage

According to the FDA, there is a current shortage of Ketamine Injections, which is administered therapeutically as anesthesia, but does have other off-label uses based on related threads here on MedsChat, so I wanted to share this information to help spread awareness to any patients who may be left wondering what happened. The shortage reportedly started on 02/16/2018, but currently remains in effect as per the FDA's website. The drug companies that were affected by this shortage recently updated their status to verify the current shortage and are listed as follows: Hospira, Inc. (Reverified 07/20/2018) Mylan Institutional (Revised 07/31/2018) Par Pharmaceutical (Revised 07/18/2018) West-Ward Pharmaceuticals (Revised 07/20/2018) Reason For Shortage: Mylan, Par and West-Ward all repo...

Can Lidocaine Test Positive For Cocaine In A Hair Test

I have a small delivery/transportation business in Ohio. My husband & I decided to grow our company by purchasing a vehicle that requires a CDL B. The guy we have driving that truck has his class A but if he quit or needed a day off we had no one to fill in so I took classes to get my CDL A's in March of 2014. After receiving my CDL’s [for experience & financial reasons] I made the decision to sign on & drive for a large trucking company in June of 2014. The company performed a hair drug test on me but apparently did not get they're results until after I started the orientation. During my orientation the MRO called & tells me that I tested positive for cocaine. I knew that there had been a mistake because I am not a drug user. He asked me had I been to the ...

GI Cocktail Cost

how much does this prescription cost? ## A GI Cocktail just refers to a mixture of products that is used to clean out the gastric system and intestinal tract, before certain medical tests and procedures. Therefore, it does not refer to any specific product or medication, so I am unable to quote you an estimated cost for it. Have you tried asking your doctor, or pharmacy? ## You have absolutely given the wrong information. XAP TOPICAL

TOPICAL NUMBING SOLUTION ## According to NIH.gov, XAP is an alternative to cocaine for topical anesthesia. Source: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8214878 XAP stands for Xylocaine (lidocaine) + Adrenaline + Pontocaine (tetracaine) Another common abbreviation for this combination drug is LAT, which stands for the active ingredients lidocaine, adrenaline and tetracaine. I'm under the impression that XAP refers to the brand name while LAT refers to the generic version. Clinical trials note that "LAT gel (tetracaine-adrenaline-lidocaine) worked as well as TAC (tetracaine-adrenaline-cocaine) gel for topical anesthesia in facial and scalp lacerations." - They also go on to state that LAT gel compared favorably with injectable buffered lidocaine for local anesthesia effectiveness and was s...

keto baclo cyclo lido gaba cream

Can this topical cream affect your sleeping cycle??? Can it make you sleep a heavy sleep? ## Hello, JoAnn! How are you? No, it shouldn't. The medications may cause drowsiness as side effects, but you only absorb a little of them, when using them topically, so it shouldn't cause a deep, heavy sleep. For that to happen, someone would basically have to almost bathe in it. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks so much. Can it be addictive? ## Hello, I just received a topical Cream Keta/Cyclo/GABA/Lido (10%/2%/6%/3.5%). I was told to put it in all places where I am experiencing pain and on the bottle it says: Apply 3 times daily for pain and/or muscle spasms as needed. *** PLEASE HELP ANYONE!!! *** I suffer from extreme nerve pain in my back. Ketamine has a high chance of respiratory failure and death ## I have used ketamine for rheumatoid arthritis many many time for joint pain. Don't tell people it will kill them, if you have no experience with the drug. Ketamine is an amazing drug and can help many people in quite a few ways. ## Ketamine is not amazing for everyone, since we are all different, and may react to it differently. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, sedation, weight changes, and mood changes. Is there anything I can help with? ## I'll just add that Ketamine is known to cause a dissociative state or "trance...

Lidocaine causing urinary difficulty

My doctor said I have to avoid all opioids and narcotics due to problems urinating. Recently I increased the amount of lidocaine cream that I use for pain control on my feet, and have had difficulty urinating. Can there be a cause and effect, or is it just coincidence? ## When used topically, according to FDA reports, you usually don't absorb enough for it to cause many internal side effects, usually they are just topical side effects that can include skin redness, irritation, and flaking. If you've been having problems urinating, it could just be another flare up of that, though it is hard to say, and only your care provider can give you a definitive answer. Are you male? If so, have you had a recent prostate check? Prostate enlargement is a frequent issue that causes urinary p...

Keto Lido Cream

Will this med help with lower back pain, because when I put it on it is not hot? It remains cold... ## Hello, Karen! How are you? There is nothing in this to make it heat up, though some over the counter products like IcyHot do, it isn't necessary to actually relieve pain. Additionally, those products don't actually heat up, anyway, they only stimulate nerve receptors to make it feel as though they do. Is it helping you? ## Hello. My Dr gave. me a compound that consisted of Keto 10%- Amit 3%- Ga 6%- and emla cre #150 and it helps. He gave it to me for my back but I have also used it on my knees, stomach, shoulders and hips, but your Dr has to call it in. Can Lidocaine Cause A Positive Drug Test

I went to court, and took a drug screen and I was tested positive for cocaine. The day before my doctor gave me a shot that had lidocaine in it. ## From what I could gather, Caine anesthetics seem to be notorious for causing false positives for cocaine. This includes Novocaine, Benzocaine, Lidocaine, etc. If you were to take any course of action, I would recommend insisting on additional testing & perhaps requesting a GC/MS test (Gas Chromatography / Mass Spectrometry), as it is considered to be the most definitive method for confirming the presence of a drug in the urine. I think it's down right unfair for companies to not use this type of testing right off the bat, since there are so many false-positives being reported on a daily basis. At this point in time though, the best a...
