Butesin Picrate - compounding

Hello. I'm from Australia and had been sorry to learn that Butesin Picrate cream was removed from commercial sale. My daughter (a registered pharmacist with Pharmaceutical Compounding exp.) recently suffered burns while she was home cooking: I said my "often quoted regret" about the cream's discontinuation. We have - between us - located the original (1%) pharmaceutical compounding instructions for it and provided it's not large scale manufacture I can arrange to put you in touch with the compounding pharmacy - only in limited supply for individuals though (like many of us who grew up with this cream in our mothers' first aid boxes!). One ingredient (apparently) had cancer-causing discussions at scientific circles... and that's part of the PR disaster that pr...

BGO Ointment

BGO ointment last distributed by Calotabs Co. in Greenville, SC. Company has apparently closed...not further info. Ointment is an antiseptic, antifungal cream for relief of th athlete's foot, ringworm, hemorrhoids, externally caused blemishes, cracked lips, minor cuts, burn and bruises, corns, itching from burning skin due to sunburn and non venomous insect bites. Contains salicylic acid, sulphur, zinc oxide, phenol calamine, menthol, petrolatum lanolin and mineral oil. Have used this product for over 50 years and it works great. Would be so happy to find a new distributor if one exists. ## This stuff is great. I still have one new bottle since i bought all the local drug store had a few years ago. I too have researched and not found anything on where we might get some more. It is g...

Lidocaine Patch Make You Positive For Morphine

I used a Lidocaine patch - can it make me come up positive for Morphine on a urine test? ## No, Lidocaine isn't listed as being known to cause a false positive for anything. Did this happen to you? High doses of it have been known to cause a false positive for Cocaine, since they are distantly related, but you usually don't absorb enough from the patch to have it be detected as anything. ## Well which is it? Lidocaine does not cause a false positive for anything... or High doses have been known to cause false positives for Cocaine? You are contradicting yourself and therefore not looking to credible to me. If Lidocaine has been known to cause a false positive for Cocaine, at any dosage, you should state that and leave it at that. ## I WAS TESTED POSTIVE FOR MORPHINE I NEVER HAVE...

How Come I Cant Find Viractin Cold Sore Treatment In Any Drug Store

Viractin Cold Sore Treatment was the BEST. I have suffered with coldsores for years. This was the best treatment I have come acrossed. A small amount of this product and no more coldsore. I haven't found an answer to my question yet. Is Viractin still available over counter or do I need a prescription for it? ## I am sorry, but Viractin has been discontinued by the manufacturer. It contained the active ingredient Tetracaine, which was a topical anesthetic, so it really did nothing to shorten the duration of a cold sore, though the moisturizing effects of it could help keep them from drying out and cracking and bleeding. You may want to try a different over the counter product, such as Abreva, which contains Docosanol, it is an antiviral, which can shorten the duration of a cold sore...

Ketamine Intranasal Spray Info.

The link below is to a compounding pharmacy in Atlanta, GA. I have no affiliation, association or experience with them. I am posting this for the excellent and accurate information it contains. I have used ketamine intranasal spray at 50, 100, and 150 mg/ml solutions. Around 200 mg/ml, it may not remain dissolved. I have found that nasal administration of ketamine can play an important role in continued recovery from severe treatment-resistant depression, without the great expense and inconvenience of IV infusions. pavilioncompounding.com/blog/ketamine-nose-spray-for-depression-and-pain-management ## Hi I was wondering if you were able to dissaccosiate with the nasal spray like you do with the infusions? I've received 5 ketamine infusions and was feeling like a new person. I was giv...

Need help for Post Herpetic Neuralgia

Anyone know of a cream or compounded ointment for relief of severe pain from post herpetic neuralgia? I’ve suffered with this for 21 years now, down back of leg and around ankle and foot. I’m so tired of fighting the pain. I take gabapentin, tramadol, and amytriptline which help some, but the pain is alway there, stabbing and burning, making it difficult to wear clothing. This is so depressing I don’t even want to leave the house anymore. ## Hello, Patti! I am so sorry about what you're dealing with, that's horrible. Unfortunately, I don't know of any specific cream, or compounded cream that I can recommend, but you might want to ask your doctor about prescribing Lidocaine patches, or a compounded cream with Lidocaine in it, since it is a topical anesthetic...

whats good for a toothache

I HAVE BEEN TAKING ALL TYPES OF ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDS AND ORALGEL MAXIMUM STRENGTH SO WHAT ELSE CAN I TAKE? I'M DESPERATE. IT REALLY HURTS, TILL I GET THIS TOOTH PULL NEXT SATURDAY. ## Clove oils and bc powders are the best. You can buy them over the counter. I use a brand called goody's. I also suck on ice when it gets so bad nothing works, cause I go through this very often. All my teeth are bad, and damaged at the roots. ## You can try Krys's ideas, but otherwise there isn't a lot anyone can suggest, since we don't know the specifics of what NSAIDs you've been taking, and how much of them you've taken. Orajel is usually good, but it doesn't tend to last long, since your saliva tends to wash it away very quickly. The ice might not be a good idea for ev...

ER Magic Mouthwash Morton Grv

Liquid, pink in color. it numbs my throat all the way down. ## While I can't speak as to what's in the specific one you are asking about, most of these contain Lidocaine, which is a topical anesthetic, which can cause such numbness as a side effect, according to FDA reports. Other side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, headache, and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I was given pink magic cause of heart burn. It has mylanta, lidocaine, & benadryl when I asked the pharmacist. ## This medicine is helping my tongue but not my throat. However, I'm not swallowing the mouthwash, I'm spitting it out. The medication is Magic Mouthwash from Morton Grv. I want to know if it can harm me to swallow it?

Ketamine for Depression?

It was recommended by the members of a separate thread that one be started that directly relates to ketamine and it's use to treat depression. If anyone besides myself would like to discuss it's use as a treatment for depression, feel free to post your questions, answers and experiences here. This thread is an offshoot of a related one that discussed a treatment of Scopolamine for depression. ## thanks michael- yes, i am very interested in hearing about your experience so far with ketamine. both the iv application and the nasal route. i'm not too keen on the nasal route, but like i said, i will try that first due to cost. so, how you feeling? john ## Thanks for setting up this Discussion Michael! I would like to know what is this compound about?? ## Hello, Chirstina! How are you? This is a topical compound used to treat pain, mostly that of the muscles, where such preparations can be readily absorbed. From what you've listed, this contains: Clonazepam: Clonazepam details here. Gabapentin: Gabapentin details here. Ketamine: Ketamine details here. Amitriptyline: Amitriptyline details here. Diclofenac: Diclofenac details here. and EMLA: Lidocaine: Lidocaine details here. Prilocaine: Prilocaine details here. The MGCL stands for magnesium chloride being used in the compound. Since its used topically, there's not usually a lot of side effects, but you may experience skin irritation where it's applied. keto baclo cyclo lido gaba cream

Can this topical cream affect your sleeping cycle??? Can it make you sleep a heavy sleep? ## Hello, JoAnn! How are you? No, it shouldn't. The medications may cause drowsiness as side effects, but you only absorb a little of them, when using them topically, so it shouldn't cause a deep, heavy sleep. For that to happen, someone would basically have to almost bathe in it. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks so much. Can it be addictive? ## Hello, I just received a topical Cream Keta/Cyclo/GABA/Lido (10%/2%/6%/3.5%). I was told to put it in all places where I am experiencing pain and on the bottle it says: Apply 3 times daily for pain and/or muscle spasms as needed. *** PLEASE HELP ANYONE!!! *** I suffer from extreme nerve pain in my back. Lidocaine patches by PAR

Has anyone used these? My provider wants to send me these instead of the brands I know to be good, such as Qualitest, Actavis, Endo & Watson. They sent Mylan once and these are useless because of the stiff backing. ## Yes, I have them they are worthless, I am reporting these patches to my insurance company, they are not a generic equivalent to the "Brand" patch, which has 700 mg of Lidocaine, Mylan has 140 mg. They fall off after an hour, they are very hard to open. My insurance company sent them years ago I sent them back. Actavis is a great generic and meets what I think are minimum requirements 700 mg of Lidocaine, easy to apply and they stick. ## Par is the generic for endo I am going to try. Actavis is junk too. Call the company and ask for a refund to be sent to your p...

Ketamine Changed My Life

I am a 35 year old woman who has lived with anxiety and depression most of my life. I think it is both genetic (100% of my family members have some sort of mental illness or depression) and caused by life experiences (growing up with a bipolar father and borderline mother in an unstable home). Since the age of 15, I have been on and off almost every kind of anti-depressant and other assorted drugs. Some helped, but never enough. Nothing stopped me from hitting bottom on a regular basis. I've also been in and out of therapy: most of it was pretty useless. Four years ago, I went off all meds for pregnancy and breastfeeding for about a year and a half. I was ok-ish, but not great. I ended up having to stop breastfeeding so that I could go back on meds because things got so bad. Since t...

Lidocaine pain patch and breathalyzer

Currently I use a lidocaine patch manufactured by Pfizer called Flector. On bad days I will wear 3 to 4 at a time. My doctor mentioned this could possibly be detected by a breathalyzer. Is this true? ## Hello Robbie, I have searched high and low and I cannot find anything at all that would suggest this. I really do hate to disagree with medical professionals as I am not one myself but I just can't seem to find any sources credible or not that claim lidocaine would cause you to fail a breathalyzer. Now I will admit that I have read some claims that if you are taking enough of the Lidocaine patches you could theoretically fail a drug analysis but there has been no credible source or case studies that support this. In the event that such a problem happened you would simply need to expl...

Goprelto Go Go Go!

I was just wondering if anyone has been administered this yet in a medical setting? It is a recently FDA approved nasal solution of cocaine hydrochloride. Yes, you read that correctly, cocaine. According to the NDC it is also available (to properly licensed medical professionals) in 100% powder form. It's labeled/supplied by Genus Life Sciences based and researched out of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Being as the cocoa plant doesn't grow in such a climate I'm assuming that their "main ingredient" is coming from Bolivia and/or Colombia. Either that or it's being grown in greenhouses. ## Anyone seen or heard of this Goprelto being used as an anesthetic? Of what condition/procedure for which it would be used as an anesthetic? ## Is it being used as pain management medic...

diclofenac 3% / gabapentin 6% / baclofen 2% / lidocaine 5% cream

This cream (diclofenac 3% / gabapentin 6% / baclofen 2% / lidocaine 5%) and doxepin hydrochloride 5% cream is supposed to be used for pain in my knee and back. I found the second cream but the first which contains four different items is hard to track down. The warnings and interactions is what I am concerned about. ## Generally, these creams can vary from doctor to doctor, and they need to be made by a compounding pharmacist. Thus, they aren't usually "in stock" anywhere, they are made specifically according to what your doctor has ordered. Do you have a compounding pharmacy in your area? The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including skin irritation, redness, flaking, and burning. ## The compounding pharmacy is about thirty miles away and they use UPS for del...

The 2018 Ketamine Shortage

According to the FDA, there is a current shortage of Ketamine Injections, which is administered therapeutically as anesthesia, but does have other off-label uses based on related threads here on MedsChat, so I wanted to share this information to help spread awareness to any patients who may be left wondering what happened. The shortage reportedly started on 02/16/2018, but currently remains in effect as per the FDA's website. The drug companies that were affected by this shortage recently updated their status to verify the current shortage and are listed as follows: Hospira, Inc.
