I went this medication when it first came on the market in 1982. Yes, it cleared up my acne but I truly believe that this drug made me infertile. Does anyone know the stats on accutane causing infertility? As I have had 3 endoscopies and a colonscopy before the age of 43. I have chronic heartburn and problems with my bowels. One doctor indicated that I had IBS but I never was officially diagnosed nor was the accutane indicated for my infertility issues. I guess I'm screwed sice that statue of limitations is up for me of course I didn't know about all these issues up until a few years ago. I am very concerend though about my nephew-He is 18 and is on accutane. He has horrible cystic acne and nothing has worked for him. Last I saw him, His face looked really good-My concern is for...

I am 19 years old and was on accutane for 6 months last year, and now am facing some stomach issues. About 2 months after coming off the medication, my body started to change. In the past year I have lost about 20lbs, and am constantly dealing with stomach issues (indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, lack of appetite, acid reflux). I have gone to a couple doctors, had an endoscopy done, but there seems to be no luck. Has anyone had similar issues??? Some weeks/days are much better than others. My skin is completely clear now but my stomach/body has completely changed. Please respond with any similar side effects!! ## According to FDA reports, it hasn't been known to cause such long-term side effects. Reports usually list them as relating to fertility. However, there is a possibility...

I've taken Accutane twice, both for 5 months at a time. The first time everything went good, but after 3 months post cycle my acne came back so I hopped back on it. About 1 month post second cycle of Accutane the skin on on the area below my lip and above my chin, and my smile creases are constantly a deep red. It's not dryness and it feels like it's below the skin. No bumps at all. My dermatologist prescribed a foamy steroid that people use for rosacea but it did nothing at all. I'm a year after post Accutane and the problem persists. Any other people have this issue? Help. ## I get Rosacea and what you describe sounds just like it. The worst thing for Rosacea is a Steroid or cortisone. It worsens. You need a Rosacea Gel (kind of antibiotic) and a course of antibiotics....

I was just wondering if jojoba oil reverses the effects of accutane? I have been using it on my skin ever since I started the medication and my skin hasn't been that dry. I'm almost done with my first month. I don't know if this is a good or bad sign, since my skin has to be dry in order for the meds to work.

how long can we expect depressed behavior in our daughter Accutane stopped 2 months ago ## It is hard to say for some it has been a permanent fixture. In fact studies have shown it shrinks the frontal cortex. What has your daughter tried, diet, meditation, exercise etc? Also, have you taken your daughter to see a doctor? ## I'm sorry but 20yrs later and I'm still waiting for my son and daughters depression to get better . They took roaccutane in their teens , now in their 30's , I can't begin to tell you how it has affected every aspect of their lives . I wish you and your dauhter all the very best .

Hi, I'm a 38 year old female who just started taking 20mg of accutane 3 days ago. I have very persistent, moderate back acne. I have a few questions that I forgot to ask my dermatologist: what is the best lotion/moisturizer that I should use when I start having dry skin? What kind of soap should i use, as i use dial right now? Also, I have read that aquafor is a life/lip saver...is this Otc or prescription? And a question for the ladies: did you use liquid foundation while your skin was dry and flakey? If so, what kind did you use? I am just trying to prepare myself for the upcoming months. I am scared (bc of all of the horror stories I've read) but also very hopeful for the end result of CLEAR skin! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! ## I took two courses of ...

I've finished my 22month course of 10mg/day. My doctor gave me the least dose to reduce side effects. Side effects were normal, dry skin joint pain etc. Recently I've been getting flushed very easily, several times per day on my cheeks and ears. I've finished the course 3wks ago and see improvement in terms of dryness on my lips and skin but the flushes seem to be getting worse. I've read it may take 2/3 months for accutane to get out of the body. How many more weeks till these flushes go as they make my face want to blow up with heat and its effecting me. Thanks!!

Hi I have been on accutane 2 times. 9 months at the age of 16 and 10 months at the age of 18. I have had many problems over the last 10 years like depression, insomnia, nocturia, stomach issues, eye strain and on. Is it possible this drug did some damage? ## Yes, the NIH does report that Accutane has been known to cause some long term ill health effects, including the issues you've mentioned, plus reproductive issues for women and fetal abnormalities, if taken while a woman is pregnant. Are you on any other medications? Have you had these checked out by your doctor?

I took Accutane when I was 17 for a few months and then a month when I turned 18 so maybe 5-6 months all together, im 21 now and me and my fiancé have been trying for a baby for about 8 months now and nothing is happening, my periods are irregular so I never really know when im ovulating so that might be the cause, I started looking into Accutane as a cause of infertility and im overwhelmed with everything that ive found. Can someone please tell me if Accutane could be the cause of infertility?? ## Hello, Bluegrassgirl! How are you? If your periods are irregular, it's most likely to be related to that. Years ago, when I had the same problem, it took well over a year for me to become pregnant with my son. Have you consulted an OB Gyn? That should be able to do some testing to le...

I took accutane at 12-13 years old.. I am currently 16 years old with NO side effects and NO reason to hate accutane. This drug saved my life. As a teenage/preteen girl, I went to the pool with my friends and never took my shirt off because I was scared to show my acne covered skin. Now I am confident with my body. I was on accutane for 6 months straight with cystic acne all over my face, back, and chest. Do not listen to the ones blaming accutane for all of your medical issues. People just DEVELOP medical issues. Part of being human beings. This was a miracle drug. Go for it if your acne is bad. You won't regret it. I couldn't say enough great things about it. ## Hello, Hannah! How are you? I'm very glad that this medication worked so well for you. However no, people don...

Hi everyone, I am Stuart Kneen, I have a cousin who is 21 this year. Nice to meet all of you. But can I ask you guys a question? she has just started taking Accutane (Isotretinoin) for about 5 days now. But is it normal to have a breakout once you take the Accutane? she had a bad breakout once she started taking the medicine. Full of pustules.. Will it go away? ## This is such a dangerous drug , the side effects last for years afterwards . I would stop now , hindsight is a wonderful gift to be able to give someone . Depression and anxiety stuffs up your life much more than acne ever would , trust me , I know . Please advise her to come off this awful drug !

My son was hospitalized a few years ago for acute pancreatitis. At the time, he was taking Accutane and drinking (social). He is now back on Accutane and promised he will not be drinking for 6 months. Is he in danger of getting pancreatitis again? ## I have been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis, ibs and chronic abdominal pain! I took accutane when i was a kid! I took accutane for a year!! There is no history of this in my family! The doctors say i have crones disease and ulcer lites! So i do not know what to do any more can any 1 help? ## It is listed as a rare side effect of the drug, however, it appears yours did not manifest when you were taking it, so it may be totally unrelated. The only thing I can suggest is consulting your doctor. ## Then what could have caused it? Becuse the...

i have been on Accutane for three months now, first two on 20mg and started the 3rd month on 40mg. After upping the dose, I got severe nerve pain in my mouth, initially I thought it was my teeth so I went to the dentist and discovered it wasn't my teeth nor gums (which was a bonus) however the pain lasted on and off for over a week which I can only describe as an intermittent electric shock feeling which painkillers have not helped with. I have tried contacting my Dermatologist but have had no response. Has anyone else had this as a side effect? ## Hello, Catherine! How are you? Yes, that can be a side effect of this medication, as reported by the U.S. FDA. You may also experience nausea, skin rash, abdominal pain, diarrhea and depression. Has anyone else that's taken it experie...

My life has been turned upside down and I prey I will feel better after coming of the drug but I have lots my whole persernality I used to be happy always with I smile bubbly and make people laugh, now I am nothing.i have created a bad relationship with good beacuse I have become so depressed I eat constantly to make myself feel better yes at the time it does but after I just feel sick and depressed again not one day goes by when I am happy, I believ...

Hello, I wanted to share my story and ask others if they are experiencing similar side affects. I'm a 35 year old female and took accutane 6 months ago for 6 weeks only (prescribed not for acne, but for seborrheic dermatitis which is normal/legal in Poland where I was diagnosed)! Four months later I have more and more side effects that are gradually appearing and getting worse. My main concern: - shortness of breath and occasional chest pain (started recently and getting worse by day, but x-ray doesn't show anything unusual nor do the blood tests) - head pressure (a bit like sinus infection, but without a mucous), mainly at top of nose, slightly stuffy nose, temples, front and top of head and occasional ear ache - neurological issues, aches (still mild) in arms and legs, extreme...

Around 2005 my 15 yr. old son was put on Accutane for severe acne. He begin being very tired, but most teenagers come home from school and take a nap especially when catching the school bus at 6:30 am. His acne cleared up very quickly. He was very active, baseball, volleyball, etc. He started having symptoms at age 16 of rapid heart palpitations and shortness of breath, just walking across the yard, but didn't say anything because he thought he was "out of shape". I immediately took him to the doctor who could not find anything wrong on physical exam. So he submitted a full blood panel. That night I received a phone call to get him to the emergency room immediately, his red blood cells and platelets were critically low and he needs a blood transfusion. Upon further testing h...

Just wanted to let everyone know my experience with ro-accutane so far. Started on the medicine for cystic acne caused by stress from work. Very good cleared up in about a month but have to follow out my 9 month course recommended by my specialist. Side effects I have experienced so far: -Extremely dry lips to a point that they split on the sides and I find it difficult to eat any foods at all -constant dry eyes like sand in them -red skin -extreme sensitivity to the sun - extreme weight gain 12kgs in 6 months - mood swings - angry/aggressive - panic attacks - anxiety towards everything - distance from everyone - antisocial - crying over the silliest things - lost all interest in things I used to love - irregular periods every two weeks - but now haven't had it for 7 weeks - can...

I'm 18 years old and have been on ro-accutane for a month and a half taking 30 mg a day. The drug got to work pretty much straight away, and I was drinking lots of water everyday to aid the clearing of my acne. Around 3 weeks into taking the drug my mood became very temperamental and although I love my parents I can no longer be in the same room as them for more than five minutes before I have to run off to my bedroom to be on my own. I've become hugely paranoid over somebody I am dating, but feel I am losing my bubbly personality he once loved and we don't speak much these days. I have a good job working in the offices of a good British university, but my concentration is slipping. I agonise over the wording of my emails so much that I give up and forget to reply to colleag...

Hi I recently took accutane for two years and developed ulcerative colitis and acid reflux in the last 2 months of my accutane treatment. I would like to know if there is a link between these two, I find it highly unlikely that I would develop this at 18 and for some reason my hair severely thinned out and falls out occasionally. I think my hair thinning and ulcerative colitis were a result from accutane considering they developed around the same time. Please respond someone ## Yes, Accutane can cause hair loss and there is a link and many legal cases regarding Chron's / U.C. Not sure if your from the U.S., but it is listed as a side effect of the drug! I would see a doctor if you can. ## Hello, Jack! How are you? Yes, Accutane has been known to cause issues like this as side effect...

I started accutane last month and have been on it for 26 days, the first week I was on it it cleared my face up almost completely, in the past week or so my acne has gotten worse, there's more, and different kinds, I've never had a problem with blackheads until now. My skin is so dry and my lips are cracked and hurt so bad, the corner of my lips cracked so now it hurts to eat or open my mouth too wide. They say these symptoms are normal but it's been really hard on me, I'm feeling even more self conscious about my skin now than before I started this medicine, I don't really wanna be seen. I hope it gets better like they say. I just wanna know if anyone else is dealing with or has dealt with this and how long these symptoms lasted for. ## Hello, Kassidy! How are you? ...
