Amitriptyline, sold under the brand name Elavil among others, is a tricyclic antidepressant primarily used to treat major depressive disorder and a variety of pain syndromes from neuropathic pain to fibromyalgia to migraine and tension headaches.[10] Due to the frequency and prominence of side effects, amitriptyline is generally considered a second-line therapy for these indications.[11][12][13][14] The most comm...

Hello, I've been taking amitriptyline for about 2 years. I've also been addicted to Ambien and Xanax. I've tried everything for sleep so I didn't take this med when it was first prescribed because I thought it wouldn't work. The first time I took it I was out of Ambien and Xanax and very paranoid. However it actually made me sleep for about five hours which was a very pleasant surprise. That was 50mg. Now I'm completely off Xanax and Ambien and am talking 100-150 of amitriptyline a night. It works very well. It's the only non controlled substance that has ever worked to help me sleep. Because it's not controlled it's much easier to get. When I'm out of it I don't sleep at all. This medication has been a godsend to me. ## Hello, Erin! How are y...

Hi, I have been depressed for 5 years, almost 6 now. My illness has been very resistant to medical treatment. I have tried a variety of antidepressants and had no results. Now I have been on 150mg of amitriptyline for half a year. It has been THE WORST medication for me. This one has made my suicidal thoughts and overall depression even worse! I can feel my mood drop significantly when I miss a dose, and tapering off this medicine has been a nightmare. I recently saw my psychiatrist yesterday. We made a plan to slow down the tapering process by going down 10mg a week. Last night was my first dose of 140mg, and I really cannot tel if it is just the natural course of my overall illness or if it is making me worse again. Or what if it's just the medicine in general? I don't know if...

What is the safe way to stop taking Amitriptylin 10 mg.? I have become very irritable, restless and i can't seem to sleep as well as I did before I started taking this. ## How long have you been taking it? If it has been for a long period of time, then it should be tapered slowly. Our bodies do get used to medications when we have been taking them for a long time and you can experience some withdrawal effects if you stop abruptly. In addition, you can also experience rebound symptoms, which can be worse than the condition you started taking it to treat. Have you talked to your doctor about these problems?

10mg. 1 tablet at bedtime ## Amitriptyline (10 mg) is used in the United States and United Kingdom to prevent migraines only in very small doses. It is also used as sleeping aids in small doses of usually 25 mg, and for diabetic retinopathy. For information about the side effects of this drug, please refer to the link below... If you have any more questions or concerns, please post back and I will be happy to help you. ## My doctor would like to prescribe me this for my migraines...10mg, however, I am very leary of filling the prescription due to suicidal thoughts as the #1 side affect. Your thoughts? ## Is there connection between taking Amitriptyline HCL 10 mg. and dementia?

I'm taking amitriptylin50mg,my doctor put me on it for sleeping,i'm just wondering if that is safe i take xzannx also ## Were they both prescribed by the same doctor? Taking Xanax and Amitriptyline increases the risk of depression of the central nervous system, since they can both cause it and taking them both has additive effects. They can be used together, but it is very important that your doctor knows you are taking both, so they can adjust the dosages accordingly and monitor you on a regular basis.

My daughter has left side paralysis. Doctors diagnosed her with conversion disorder. But I know it's vaccine injury. She cannot sleep and has really bad headaches. He put her on amitryptille for the headache alone he claims. I don't think she would be taking this medication ## My 12 year old daughter took this med for 12 weeks to help with migraines. For some people this is a miracle drug. For her it was awful. Headaches got worse. She experienced severe anxiety and panic. We weaned her off over the course of three weeks. It has been 5 weeks since last dose and she is still not herself.

Has anyone had amitriptyline for nerve pain? I want to come off them, but I’m concerned the nerve pain will return. Has anyone had any experience with this? ## There is a chance that the pain may return, if you stop abruptly, sudden withdrawal could result in a rebound effect, where they pain might be even worse than it was to begin with. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood changes, dry mouth, and weight changes. Why do you want to stop taking them? ## At the beginning I felt so pleased when the tablets kicked in. I started at 25 mg and eventually increased to 75 mg. All was going well. I get the usual side effects, but no real problems. I’ve been on them for about 6 years. The reason I want to come off, is because a...

Changed pharmacies today and received the 10mg amitriptyline in blue. The first month I used this from the previous pharmacy the pill was pink. Is there any difference in the two? ## Put, pictures of amitriptyline 10mg, in Google. You should see a link to pictures. They do come in pink and blue and other colors. ## @Frankie, If you get them filled from a licensed pharmacy, odds are that the two medications contain the same active ingredients and dosage, but may have different binders/fillers. If you happen to know the pill imprint you can either look it up online or post it here for reference. However, in my own findings, a round blue pill marked with V 2101 reportedly contains 10mgs of Amitriptyline made by Qualitest. And you can view a photo of it by clicking the following National Dr...

Looking for amitriptyline manufactured by Mylan ## I'm sorry, but there is no database showing which medications from which manufacturer are in stock, at any given pharmacy. Such information would be virtually impossible to keep updated, if someone did try to create one. Have you asked your usual pharmacy if they can order it in for you? Some pharmacies will do so, for their regular customers. Amitriptyline is most commonly used to treat depression, and nerve pain. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood changes, and dry mouth.

I am taking 25 MG at night and sometimes 25 MG in the day time. I have very short temper and I get angry very fast. I am a very busy man at the office and have to handle a variety of things simultaneously. When I take the medicine I feel ok. My only worry is that if I continue too long I will get addicted to it and will that be bad? Also need to know if I take this tab regularly will it affect my libido? ## I tried that, made me suicidal..... My dad was on it, he sold his land for nothing and now rents at age 74. this medicine may have its uses, but not with me. ## Mike, while your suicidal tendencies are possible on this medication, they are very rare and not representative of the typical user. As to your dad's actions, there is really no way to say whether or not the medication ha...

I have poorly controled diabetes with a sleeping disorder and I take two 50mg of amitriptyline. What can I do to help with my heart beating at an alarming rate of 130 to 138 beats per minute Without lowering my intake of the amitriptyline, for it is helpping with my sleeping disorder (because sleeping pills dont work alone) and with my neuropathy pain (nerve damage) in my feet, legs and hands. ## Amitriptyline can increase your blood sugar. Please get it under control. It will slow the heart rate, make you feel better and have less nerve pain. Diabetes and Amitriptyline are not the best of friends. Uncontrolled blood sugar levels and the meds can be very dangerous and on occasion fatal. Please Please Please get control of the diabetes. Trust me its worth it. ## And you should see a doct...

There are a number of warnings about the possible side effects of taking Amitriptyline - some people get one or more, others none at all. In my case I suffered a migraine on and off every twenty four hours for very many years. About 15 years ago I was prescribed this drug (10mg daily) to ease the symptoms and frequency and initially it seemed to make little difference but I have not had a migraine now for some six years - whether it is the Amitriptyline or something else no-one can tell me, but I have continued to take them all this time. The effects of taking them long term appear not to be known, but I am, quite naturally, unwilling to stop in case the migraines return. I have also been very fortunate in that I have had no side effects at all ever since I started taking them. I am jus...

synergistic effect prosed and amitriptolyne ## I'm not sure what aspects of each drug you might be referring to as far as having a "synergistic effect", but both of these medication have completely different uses. Prosed/DS is a urinary antiseptic, urinary acidifier, analgesic, and anticholinergic combination. It works by helping to kill bacteria in the urine, decreasing pain and inflammation, and reducing muscle spasms in the urinary tract. These actions work together to help relieve discomfort while urinating. Amitriptyline is used to treat symptoms of depression. Amitriptyline is in a class of medications called tricyclic antidepressants. It works by increasing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain that are needed to maintain mental balance. M 18 ## Well that is a loaded question. There are many, many generic drug manufacturing companies, and each company that makes these pills will make one that looks different and has different markings. There are no laws or rules that say all drugs with the same active ingredient have to look the same, they just have to have unique imprint markings for ID purposes, but how the pill looks, the size, shape, and color, is totally up to the whit and whim of the manufacturer. Now, that said, this pill is NOT Amitriptyline anyway. Pill Image This pill is Metropolol 25mgs, a generic Lopressor, which is used to reduce the workload on the heart. It is a beta-blocker.

Does amitriptyline hcl by Qualitest Pharmaceuticals contain gluten or gluten ingredients? It was prescribed to me for the painful spasms from Celiac disease! ## Hello, Tutu! How are you? What are the markings on it? The manufacturer listed on the label is sometimes actually just a licensed distributor, so only the marking will enable me to make sure that I provide you with the correct information.
