My endodontist prescribed this for pain after doing a root canal. Will this be of help under these circumstances? ## Hello, Ronnie! How are you? This medication is most commonly used to treat migraines and tension headaches. The Acetaminophen in it may help with some pain relief from the root canal, but I doubt it will do much. Have you tried it, yet? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, nervousness, insomnia, sedation and stomach irritation. ## Hi! I ended up not using the medication. I had very little discomfort after the root canal and just took a couple of Advil. All the possible side affects kinda worried me also. Thanks for answering. Take care! ## Very welcome! I'm glad you're doing well! ## My pharmacist says this will not bothe...

I was just prescribed butalb acetamin caff 50 325-40. I've been having these headaches for 5 months. It starts at my nostril and radiates under my eye to the temple and back of my neck all on the side of my face. I just had a SPG Nerve Block yesterday and today it hit me hard. I'm angry, irritated, upset, frustrated. I'm just tired. I've had MRI, blood work, cat scan, and no one can tell me what's going on. Please help me. ## Hello, Debbie! How are you feeling? I am sorry about your headaches. This medication is most commonly used to treat migraines or stress headaches. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and insomnia. They may never find a real reason for them, many people experience migraines and are n...

Is it possible to overdose on this drug in a way that causes death? What are the symptoms? ## Hello, From what I can gather, this combination can potentially be fatal, but you would have to ingest a very significant amount. A serious overdose of butalbital and acetaminophen may result in toxicity. Toxicity due to caffeine is less likely, due to the fairly small amounts in this formulation. The symptoms of overdosing on these medications are as follows: Butalbital: toxicity from Barbituate poisoning may include confusion, drowsiness, and coma; respiratory depression; hypotension; and hypovolemic shock. Acetaminophen: dose-dependent, potentially fatal hepatic necrosis is the most serious adverse effect. Renal tubular necroses, hypoglycemic coma, and coagulation defects may also occur. Ear...

I'm having a severe headache and have been for 3 days. Went to Dr yesterday and they gave me a script for a headache pill but it didn't work. They also gave me a pain shot and steroid shot that didn't work! Today they called in a script for butalb acetaminophen caffeine 50 300 40 and it's not working. How long should it take for this to work or should I go to see if I need any tests ran? ## It should start to help within 15 to 20 minutes of taking it, according to the NIH, since it is a regular release medication. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and stomach pain. Are you on any other medications? Has the headache eased, yet? ## I'm not on any other meds and today is the first day without a headache in 7 days .

Do you think taking half a butalb will have any effect? Sorta afraid to take the whole pill... Headache is due to vertigo.. It's hard to read, but I think it's a 40mg pill. ## Hello, Jack! My Nurse Practitioner wants me to take Lyrica 75mg. every day for pain. Looked up the side effects & am very apprehensive about this drug. Is anyone on here familiar w/ this drug? I find 2 extra strength Ecotrin helps just as much & has far less side effects. ## As I said, I am very apprehensive about taking this drug. If Ecotrin does the job why should I take another prescription drug that worries me? ## Well, in reality the ultimate choice is up to you, so it you don't want to take it, because you aren't comfortable with the risks, no one can make you. Ecotrin just contains Aspirin, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, so if it works, then there is no reason to switch to something else. However, you do have to be careful how much of it you are taking in a day. Le...

I have been prescribed this for cluster headaches. I am also a heart patient. This does not seem to do the trick for breaking the cycle. What would u recommend? ## Hello, Mike! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. What medications do you take for your heart condition? Some of them can cause headaches as side effects, as reported by the FDA. So it could be that one of them needs to be adjusted or changed, rather than trying something to treat the headaches. Many of them can also cause dehydration, which can worsen the problem.

I have bad migraines maybe twice a week and I just had major back surgery and I also have a script for hydrocodone.....I'm not sure but I feel like I'm dragging myself around. ...I want to sleep and I feel exhausted....I know my migraine can make me tired but this is way more than normal.....is it the side effects of the 2 meds? ## Hello, Lindsey! How are you? It is most likely due to the Hydrocodone, since it is a narcotic and is well known to cause those types of side effects. It also carries the risk of being habit forming and as listed by the FDA may cause other side effects, including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache and constipation. It would be best to consult your doctor to be sure, though. Is there anything else I can help with?

Butalbital is a barbiturate with an intermediate duration of action. Butalbital is often combined with other medications, such as paracetamol (acetaminophen) or aspirin, for the treatment of pain and headache. The various formulations combined with codeine are FDA-approved for the treatment of tension headaches. Butalbital has the same chemical formula as talbutal but a different structure—one that presents as 5-allyl-5-isobutylbarbituric acid.[2] Contents 1 Preparati...

How long does it take for the pain from a bad migraine to go away? I've been taking the pills for 3 days and I still have my bad migraine. ## Hello, Char! How are you? I am so sorry about the migraine. It should have helped by now, if it was going to do so. As detailed by the NIH, these types of medication usually start to work within 15 to 20 minutes of taking them, so relief should be felt soon after. It might be time to explore other migraine relief options, such as different medications. Dilaudid is often used by hospital ERs to treat them. Have you ever tried it? It's an idea you can discuss with your doctor, anyway. The FDA does warn that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, and constipation. ## Char, ...

I am having surgery on my nose and need to know if this medication thins your blood? ## Hello, Jef! How are you? The Acetaminophen in this can cause some blood thinning, but not as much as NSAIDs. I'd suggest checking with your surgeon to see if you need to stop taking it. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, nervousness and insomnia. Did they give a specific list of what not to take? ## Jeff, Hope all went well with surgery, my husband has had a runy nose for about 1 year to 18 months what was your reason for surgery

I have BUT/ACETAMINOPHEN/CAFF 50-300-40 CP. What do the last two letters "CP" mean? Does it mean capsules? ## Hello Grace, Typically the abbreviation CP in the medical field refers to cerebral palsy but in reference to a pill itself it's fairly safe to assume that it could stand for capsule. Each company and pharmacy have their own way of labeling things so if it's truly of great concern to you simply ask your pharmacy or the manufacturer who labeled the bottle. ## The ingredients listed in your abbreviation correspond with: Butalbital 50 mg / Acetaminophen 300 mg / Caffeine 40 mg I am inclined to agree with everyone on here that the "CP" could likely stand for Capsule ... However, there is a variation of this med that also contains Codeine Phosphate 30 mg in add...

is this medication appropriate for treatment of swelling in the ethmoid sinus? ## Although this medication is used a pain reliever for headaches (containing Butalbital, Acetaminophen, and Caffeine) I don't think it has anti-inflammatory properties. That said, I don't know if it would actually help with swelling, although it should relieve some of the pain. ## Butalb-Acetaminophen was prescribed for my severe frontal lobe/ sinus headaches. The Prescription reads "take one tablet every 6-8 hours as needed for headache". Well, they're 100% right on! If yoy WANT a headache that lasts 6-8 hours after administering, take one! It was a NIGHTMARE of pain and icepacks for me.

I would like to know if these are available online, either in the UI, SA, A, or Canada..? Any information, address, telephone or ???? ## does regular strength 325mg acetaminophen have codene in it ## @Eddie, The medication you're describing (generic Fioricet) is reported to only be available via prescription - at least here in the US. This means that it would be illegal to obtain them via other means if you reside in the US. So unless you're visiting those other countries in person, you'd have to go through your doctor in order to get what you need. @themayor665 (post #1), No, Acetaminophen in and of itself does NOT contain Codeine at all. They are two different drugs. However, the medication in question (generic Fioricet) is available with Codeine "added" to the mix...
