Valium Vs Xanax

I am having eye surgery in two days. I am used to .5mg Xanax and it calms me for flying and other things I have anxiety for. Don't take it often. My dr told me to take 5mg of Valium for surgery because it lasts longer then Xanax. I'm afraid this will not work as well. I am very anxious about this surgery and need to be awake and stay still. ## Your Doctor wants you to take a Benzo for the surgery? PLEASE HELP! For the past 7yrs I've been on 1mg Xanax (3x) per day for anxiety and panic attacks. I take my dosage of Xanax as prescribed by my Dr unless I have a severe panic attack, then I may take an additional (1-2) 1mg xanax when I'm actually having a severe full blown panic attack to stop it. I've been on other Benzos before but Xanax seems to be the only thing that stops the panic attacks when I'm having them. Recently my Dr decided to switch me from 1mg Xanax (3x) per day to 10mg of Valium (2x) per day because he says Valium is "stronger" and has a longer half life than Xanax. I have fibromyalgia, endo, pelvic floor dysfunction, cysts forming around my spine, 36 fibroids removed, a hystorectomy but still have my ovaries. The fibro is in my lungs and also the endo. I've been on the highest dosage of gabapentin, 6 antidepressants, Xanax, trazodone, percocet, soma, meltaxlone, lidocaine shots and patches and dialudid 4 2x a day. I am 36, no children, have had a laparoscopic surgery, laparotomy, mayomectomy and hysterectomy. First 3 in 10 months. At a dr put me on Lupron and the menopause was horrible. I have a question. Since being in this online community I have been mainly a part of the benzo club. I have seen a multitude of questions about which generic is better (company making I assume a stronger 1mg Xanax than another, as an example). I have taken generics of everything I can for decades and have never noticed any difference between generic and brand, or one generic compared to the generic by a different company but the same drug. Is this actually something people experience or as I do, do you think it's just all in one's head? I had a friend who insisted that brand Valium were far superior to generic.
