I have an inflamed prostate that my urologist discovered during my last exam three weeks ago. Prior to that my primary care dr had diagnosed my problems as prostate as well. I have recurrent UTI every 10 weeks and take Sulfameth Trim, two per day for 7 days. Due to the side effects I experience can I stop them after 5 days or is that too soon? ## If the UTI is recurring that frequently, it sounds like this isn't the right antibiotic for you, to begin with. Has your doctor had you try any others? Every medication carries the risk of side effects, so that is something you will probably have to face with any antibiotic. They can include: nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and skin rash. What other steps do you take to try to prevent the infection from recurring?

I was prescribed this medication for an urinary track infection the Qty:6 yes only six! is that normal? ## Some medications require a longer usage duration than others, so you even though it is an antibiotic, you will not always be prescribed 10 to 14 days of it. Many of them work much faster, now and have to be taken for a much shorter period of time. This can cause side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, skin rash and diarrhea. Can't pee! Need to, want to, but nothing is forthcoming. So very thirsty, lots of water going in, but just a quick tinkle coming out. I started taking Sulfameth Trimethoprim DS 24 hours ago. It is making me very sleepy, dizzy and slightly nauseated. Is this normal? I'm taking it for a urinary tract infection and I didn't feel this bad before taking this medication! Will it have this effect for 7 days or will I get used to it? I have been taking two pills of Sulfameth Trimeth DS per day for the last 30 days. Can it cause constipation? ## Sulfameth/trimeth ds was prescribed to me for a staff infection in my right eye. I asked my doctor and pharmacist if it causes constipation. Their reply was no, but I am experiencing it. It makes my eyes sensitive to sunlight, and my left arm was twitching a little. I have head aches and I feel very fatigued. I just hope my bowels return to normal after this whole cycle is done with. ## Well, if you are taking the medication for 30days or more, you should not let the constipation last that long, it can be dangerous. This antibiotic can cause a rash, as a side effect. If it is due to taking it, then it should go away on its own after you've been off of it for about 2 weeks. I have the 800mg/160mg pills and want to cut them up to give to a dog with a UTI but I am unsure which mg dose I use to figure out how much to give to a 10# dog. Sometimes doctors choose one antibiotic over another, because they know has been proven more effective at treating certain infections.
