What is the difference between suboxone and methadone? ## The active ingredients are very different, though both are opiate based and are used to treat severe pain as well as addiction. ## Dear Comments Submitted, Verwon is right, they r both opiate based. But the methadone helps much better with pain. (Believe me) I've been on both. After almost 5 years on methadone, I had 2 go on subs. Thought i was all set tapering down from methadone. Couldn't take the withdrawals or the pain. I went from 110mg to 24mg, then, I lost it. Anyway, like I said, methadone does work better 4 pain. They r both addictive. The good thing about subs is u don't have 2 go 2 a clinic, everyday. U find a good Dr and get take homes. ## i have been on both methadone and suboxone and they are very diffre...

i am starting on suboxone next week...one of these messages says never tell the suboxone doctor you were at one time on methadone..why is that so,if it is ? ## I've never heard anyone say such a thing, nor have I read it anywhere. I am guessing it may have come from someone that was abusing it, rather than using it for treatment. There are many people who have successfully switched from Methadone treatment to Suboxone treatment to finally beat their addiction problems. With Methadone, they usually end up needing a lifetime maintenance dose and never get completely drug free. This is not true, however, of the Suboxone and for proper treatment, you should always be honest with your doctor. Please post back and let us know how you are doing! ## iv been to several suboxone doctors and i...

If u run out of suboxone, can u take a cap full of methadone? If so, how long the wait before taking suboxone again? ## Hello, Papotimbal! How are you? The Naloxone in the Suboxone is likely to just neutralize the Methadone, that's actually why it's used in it, to prevent the abuse of other narcotics, while someone is under treatment with it. And, if you have a treatment contract with your doctor, taking the Methadone may also violate that. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I took 6 mg of suboxone yesterday and the only thing besides pills (which I dont want) that I can find today is methadone liquid ..w...

I have been taking 40mg methadone everyday for almost a year now and I really would like to switch to suboxone. I know you can't take suboxone until you've had atleast 48hrs from your last dose of methadone, so yesterday and today I've taken an op 80 instead. My question is will I be able to take a suboxone tomorrow and not go into immediate w/d since it will be over 48 from last methadone dose? Or Should I be taking something else instead of op 80s to make the switch? Thank you in advance for any advice! ## Actually, you have to be in full withdrawal, from everything, before you can take Suboxone, so that means you can't be taking the Oxycontin, either. Suboxone actually contains 2 active ingredients, the narcotic Buprenorphine, coupled with Naloxone to prevent the abus...

I took 20mg methadone 36 hours ago and 10mg 28 hours ago. I dont feel really sick yet but a little anxious. Is it safe to administer 2mg of suboxone right now or do I need to wait longer? ## Hello, Zeke! How are you? You need to be in full withdrawal, before taking Suboxone. Otherwise, the Naloxone in it may throw you into dangerous precipitated withdrawals. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Wait longer. Methadone is still in you. Methadone takes at minimum 70 hrs to get out of u for Subs to work. You should get Subutex it's Suboxane with ...

Hello, everyone! I've heard stories about how some people stay on methadone 4 many years 2 life. Does anyone know if this is true? I've been on subs 4 almost 8 years. And, i was addicted 2 Oxy. (Heavy duty). I m just so scared if I got off that I would b back at a pain management addicted, again. Due 2 my severe pain from many medical problems. And, I DONT ever want 2 b in that situation, again! I'm sure a lot of u people understand that. Thanks 4 you're input. ## P.S. I lost my train of thought a bit, there. Meant 2 ask if anyone has heard of being on suboxone for years or life? ## My sub doctor said that I might have to stay on suboxone for life. I disagree with him. Suboxone is solely used for getting off of opiates, and other reasons. That way you won't go throug...

I take 12mg of suboxone a day and it keeps me level headed and happy for the most part. It’s saved my life, but it doesn’t completely ameliorate my urges to use. Sometimes I wonder if Methadone would work better. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Methadone. Has anybody out there switched from suboxone to Methadone? ## Most people usually end up switching the other way, they go from Methadone to Suboxone, since it has been known to enable people to eventually become drug free, while Methadone is highly addictive, and know to be hard to ever taper off it, so most people must take a lifelong maintenance dose of it. (Suboxone NDC 12496-1212, Methadone NDC 0054-4571.) Have you spoken to your prescriber? You should be able to go up on your Suboxone, for awhile, to help w...

I took 50mg of methadone today. How long do I have to wait to take suboxone? ## Wait about one to two days so it works and doesn't make u have bad withdrawals. You will be sick if u dont start feeling sick and then take the sub. ## Hi Brandy, I know this is an older post, but I came across it. Like u, I went from methadone 2 suboxone. U must wait until u r withdrawing before u take the suboxone. If u don't, it won't work and u could get sicker. ## I took 60 mg of methadone at midnight and started the suboxone program at nine am the next morning. I was fine. ## I'm on 70 mg methadone and I want to switch to subs... How long do I wait? It's been 42 hours since my last dose and I'm now starting to feel some withdrawals..... I've been on a hundred and 20 milligrams of methadone for about a year now I'm currently also taking 15 milligrams twice a day of long-acting morphine and a PRN 15 milligram short-acting morphine every 6 hours my methadone clinic is making me taper off the methadone to go on pain management so right now I'm on 60 milligrams of methadone going down every week 10 milligrams is it safe for me to take suboxone once I've completely gotten off the methadone even though I'm going to still be on morphine. They are the strips 8 milligram strips and I'm hoping they will smooth over the effects of the withdrawal symptoms from the methadone ## No, you cannot take Suboxone, while taking other opiates, the FDA warns that doing so could cause you to go into precipitated withdra...

Need to talk to someone very bad. I've been taking methadone for 20 years, in May I started winging myself down. I got to 5 to 10 milligrams then ran out so I started taking 5 milligram oxycodone. I have a few 2 milligram and 8 milligram suboxone. When can I take them? Living in Mountain Home, Arkansas is there any Doctor I can go to that prescribes? I have been shot and have a lot of nerve damage. Also I have not been through serious withdrawal. I think I've been on methadone so long that it has covered my receptors and it is not leaving my body. NEED HELP ## You have to be in full withdrawal, before you can take Suboxone, unless your doctor has instructed otherwise. Taking it before then could cause you to go into dangerous precipitated withdrawal. If you want to check for a d...

Wanted to say I just came out of precipitated withdrawal! What holy hell! I have been on methadone for 6 years taking 115 mlg daily & got myself down to 50 mlg for 2 weeks, waited more than 72 hours, then took 2mlg suboxone. I was fine. Not better, just not worse. Following my doc's orders, I took another 2mlg 90 mins later. Ok, then took another 2mlg after 90 min and oh my god. Almost instantly threw me into precipitated withdrawal! This was to say the least horrible ×1000. Don't want this to happen again but determined to switch to subs. When can I try again without going through hell?! Please help! ## Unfortunately there is really no specific time frame as everyone is different. The best way to tell when your body is ready is to make sure you are in full blown withdr...

I have been taking Methadone for Pain & addiction for years . I have cut my dosage down from 80 Mg a day to 25 Mg a day & feel much better . My ? is it a must to wait 48 to 72 hours before Switching to Suboxone . This is what iv,e always been told . ## Yes, you must be in full withdrawal, before taking Suboxone, otherwise it could cause you to experience dangerous precipitated withdrawals, according to FDA warnings. It also carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. The exact time frame can vary from person to person, but you must be in full withdrawal. Is there anything else I can help with?

When can I have my suboxone I had 40 mg methadone 7 hrs. ago ## Hello, Teri! How are you? You should follow the instructions provided by your doctor. Suboxone cannot be taken, until you are in full withdrawal from the abused drug of choice. Because along with the narcotic Buprenorphine, it also contains Naloxone, to prevent the abuse of other opiates, while you are being treated with it, so taking it too soon could throw you into severe, dangerous withdrawals. Learn more Suboxone details here. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. hi i'm a 29 yr old male with chron's disease and a very high tolerance to pain relief and i was just wondering if subutex/suboxone was better than the methadone for pain management i have been on 20mg of oxys twice a day for about 6 months and they only work when i double dose or boot em up and now the doctors are talkin about putting me on the beup or methadone program and i'm not sure which one has more merit if ya know what i mean lol ## The Buprenorphine in the Suboxone is stronger and doesn't have the same addictive tendencies that the Methadone does. People who no longer need it for pain, or addiction treatment, often have better luck tapering off and becoming medication free, as compared to Methadone, where they often require a lifetime maintenance dose. The withd...

Yes !!! I was on 120 mg. - 180mg of methadone daily for 18 years and didn't thinkI I would ever be off methadone, but 24mg of soboxone did me good with little side effect or withdrawal. I did it in rehab and the fact is you have to be determined and dedicated. Hi there, this is for the people who are on methadone / or Suboxone. I've been on methadone for an opiate addiction, for a year now. My clean date is feb 2, 2015. At first, methadone was the best thing that had ever happened to me. I finally felt normal, and thought I was ready to get my life back on track. Well.. What a lie that was. I was at 75 mlgs of methadone from February 2015-August 2015, then started tapering off at 5 mlgs a week. I have a rapid metabolizer, so methadone never lasted longer than 10 hours in my system. Now I'm at 30 mlgs and I'm living in hell! I'm in constant withdrawal, body aches, sweating, hot /cold, emotional, aggressive... Etc. All I want is to feel normal again, but don't want to be tied on a leash to the methadone anymore! People say t...

After taking 98 mg of methadone for the past 9 yrs, is it possible 2 switch 2 suboxone? My body was significantly abused when i was out there, lots of back injuries, no pain w/ methadone. Does suboxone do this also? I work a very physical job. ## I would definitely see a dr.... that's a high dose, it stays in your muscles and can affect your heart (it's a muscle); I thought well I can do this 3.5 yrs for pain control. I was on everything under the sun. I lost 2 yrs, no memories from all the combos, 6 spine surgeries, 4 in 7 mo.... gave up all meds and started inj's. inside joints which didn't help. Then after 15 yrs hear of nerve burns similar to the blocks but they actually go in with needles n burn your nerves; wonderful great mostly pain free. Got rid of all drugs exc...
