Yeah I've developed a staph infection and I got Bactrim DS for it I got 30 tablets but my doctor told me to use it for a week and then stop using it and the pharmacist messed up and put on there take one tablet a day and I think it's supposed to be take two tablets by mouth once a day. So I mean I don't have any more staph infections or anything but they come back quite regularly so because I've got hepatitis c. So I know now that next time I need to take two bactrim a day instead of one. But my question is do I take all 30 pills I mean I stopped taking it a week ago I did what he told me to do what I thought I was supposed to do but then I called his nurse up and she said that I should have taken all 30 that seems like a lot of antibiotics to be taken for a staph infect...

I have been using Cefadroxil as treatment for a staph infection in my hip replacement joint for a year. Is this medication dangerous for my body? Previously, I've had a 6-week course of Cefazolin administered through a PICC line. I am trying to understand the potential dangers this could pose to my health. ## The risks caused by the infection are far greater than any risk associated with the antibiotics used to combat it, severe out of control infections can be deadly. It would be best to take it as prescribed by your doctor. Ref: Antibiotic Information Are you on any other medications? Has there been any improvement of your infection?

I just had jaw surgery and developed staph infection (red blotchey acne like white heads) on my chin. I've had this before and taken Bactrim for it in the past. However I've been prescribed 1 pill twice a day for a week. I'm half way through my prescription and I don't see any improvement. Any suggestions? Will it work eventually? ## Hello, Simone! How are you? Has there been any improvement, yet? The general rule with antibiotics is that if they are working, you shouldn't see any worsening after being on them for a full 24 hours and you should start to see improvement after taking them for a full 3 days. If there is no improvement after that time, then you should consult your doctor. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nau...

MSRA PLEASE LIST ANY RECOMMENDED ANTIBIOTICS / MEDS RECOMMENDED FOR THE STAPH INFECTION ## My Dr. rx for my mrsa : sulfamethoxazole TMP ds tab.. ## Yes, the most commonly used on is the one Carrie has listed, it is a generic for Bactrim. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, non-allergic skin rash, and joint/muscle aches. If someone does not respond to it, or is allergic to it, others can be used, but this is generally the first and best option. How are you doing, now? Has there been any improvement?

My doctor told me that Cipro or Bactim are very good for treating UTIs caused by E-Coli, but that Nitrofurantoin Mono_MCR is better than the other two for treating UTIs caused by staph infection. Can you tell me any more about this. ## Hello, Ed! How are you? What else do you want to know about it? It is as simple as your doctor stated, different antibiotics are sometimes better at treating different things. It doesn't mean that the others can't be used, if necessary or if someone is allergic to the preferred choices, but it may take longer and be more difficult to eradicate the infection. They may all cause common side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. ## Yes Ed, those are good. I found for just E. coli the microdanton works best, for me. ...

My brother contracted cellulitis while hospitalized for hernia surgery three months ago. He was recently prescribed Augmentin to take twice a day for thirty days. Is that an unusually long time to take an antibiotic? Are there increased risk factors from taking it that long? ## Hello, Paula! How is you brother doing? No, the risks remain the same as if he were taking it for 7 to 10 days, he runs the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Sometimes, with a particularly bad infection, such as severe cellulitis, it is necessary to take a longer course of antibiotics and he should follow his doctor's instructions. Is there anything else I can help with?

I had an open sore on my left big toe, and I went swimming in a personal friends lagoon on their resort. A staph infection got into the sore and quickly spread throughout my left leg. The leg swelled to three times its normal size, and I spent three weeks in a hospital, where they bombarded it with antibiotics. That procedure was working, but the antibiotics had trace effects of blood thinner qualities. I am a heart patient that has had nine heart procedures, including a quadruple bypass. I cannot take ANY TYPE OF BLOOD THINNER without hemorrhaging. The antibiotics with thinners in them caught up with me, and I spent several trips to the hospital, severely hemorrhaging from the nose and mouth. I had to stop the antibiotics, and now the infection is starting to spread in my leg again. My...

I'm taking doxycycline 100mg (2/day for 10 days) to prevent infection from a sting ray encounter in SW Florida's gulf waters. Potential bacterium: Staph', Strep', Vibrio. I've read that recovery from this type of injury is long, slow, and often with set backs. I thought it was looking better after first 5 days, but then the ankle (site of puncture) has gotten more swollen & a bit warm. Ultrasound revealed NO barb. Only drainage was clear and just in first 2 days. Tomorrow is 10th day of antibiotic. Should I start another round or wait & see? I have 2 prosthetic hips - so I need to be careful of infection. Orthopedic doc says to culture drainage, if any happens, and adjust antibiotic to those results. ## Yes, they can be taken that way, if your doctor deems it...

Make sure you complete all medications as directed by your doctor. Best wishes Kenie ## Yes, when it comes to MRSA, there is no way to give a definitive answer, it all depends on whether or not the infection responds to the antibiotic, and how severe the infection is overall. I take Harvoni and have a staph infection on my neck, what can I take that won't interfere with my hep c treatment? ## A staph infection is very serious and requires a prescription for antibiotics. the area must be cleaned frequently, cover only if draining. you may use a small amount of antibiotic ointment. The area must be clean and dry.Occasionally they heal on their own with good care, but most frequently need the antibiotics. See your doc. ## Hi Teresa, Apart from what Karen had mentioned (which is good advice by the way), I'd encourage you to ask your doctor about using tea tree oil (melaleuca) as well as black seed oil (nigella sativa) for Staphylococcus aureus if you haven't already sought out a form of treatment. cepodem in resistant infections ## use of cepodem in resistant staphylococcal infections ## Cepodem contains the active ingredient Cefpodoxime. This is an antibiotic used to treat many types of infections. It is used in Staph infections, because it appears to be more active against them than most other antibiotics. This means it is a great resource to use when the infections are severe or aren't responding to other treatments. ## Cepodem use details
