IS THIS A NOTED USE SIDE AFFECT? ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic and yes, almost all antibiotics can cause diarrhea as a side effect, however, it sounds like his is very severe. Have you contacted his doctor, yet? He may need to switch to a different medication. ## The same thing is happening to my 3 year old daughter. Can u take this to get rid of clymida ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, the active ingredients in Bactrim, can be used to treat Chlamydia, but it is not usually the first choice, since it has been known to respond better to other antibiotics. Has your doctor instructed you to use it?

We did a test on her a few weeks ago and she's got bladder reflux so when is prone to getting more utis. Her doctor put her on this medicine daily till further notice to help prevent another uti and any worse kidney damage. My question is, with her taking this every day for a prolonged period of time weaken her immune system and make her more acceptable to other sicknesses ## Hello, Breanna! How is your daughter doing? No, this medication is commonly given long-term in such situations. my 2 year old has been taking 1tsp twice daily for the past 3 days for a nonvenomous spider bite and suddenly today she developed a red flat rash on her arms and legs that is warm to touch. ## Hi Dana, From what I could gather, it sounds to me like your child may be experiencing either a severe side effect or an allergic reaction to the medication. The side effect profile for this drug mentions that you should contact your doctor immediately if you have a serious side effect such as: "the first sign of any skin rash, no matter how mild; or severe skin reaction -- fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling." I hope ...

I read that if you notice any of the following side effects from SMZ-TMP you should get medical help right away: skin rash/blisters, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), persistent sore throat or fever, paleness, joint pain/aches, persistent cough, trouble breathing, easy bleeding/bruising, yellowing eyes or skin, persistent nausea/vomiting, unusual fatigue, dark urine. my three year old was giving this med. for a ear infection and a toe infection, he has had bad diaper rash for 2 days and has not been sleeping in his own bed room before we wouldn't have a problem. could it be from this medication. he screams when we want him to go to bed he stays up till at least 2am. ## Hello, Joe! How is your son doing? It would be best to have it checked out by his doctor, that diaper rash may actually be due to a yeast infection, which most antibiotics can cause as side effects and, if that is the case, he'll need an antifungal cream to clear it up. As to the other issues, yes, this medication has been known to cause insomnia and headaches, as side effects according to the U.S. FDA. He may also experience nausea and diarrhea. How much longer will he be tak...

My 2 year old was prescribed this medication yesterday he is to take 2 teaspoonsful twice a day I gave him his doses for yesterday and today I gave him one in the morning then I gave him his last dose before bed he fell asleep then shortly after woke up in a fog and his cheacks and arms were bright red and he was burning up and complaining that his stomach hurt. ## Not to put your efforts in vein, but, in my honest opinion, this is a pretty dangerous drug to be giving to a 2 year old. There are many adults who cannot cope with the side effects of this medication, so I can only imagine how toddlers might react to it. The following are just a few of the side effects associated with this medication: upset stomach vomiting loss of appetite If you experience any of the following symptoms, ca...

My son was prescribed SMZ-TMP SUS 200-40/5, 9ml every 12 hours by mouth, and this is his second full day taking the medicine. This morning there was severe diarrhea, and tonight he has developed a fever. I was thinking about giving him some Tylenol for his fever, but I am unsure if it is safe with his prescription. Also, is this prescription causing these things? Can someone please help??!? ## The Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, the active ingredients in Bactrim, is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of infections and yes, both the diarrhea and fever can be side effects of it. There are no interactions listed between it and the Tylenol, but you should double check with his doctor, or your pharmacist to be certain. Is there anything else I can help with?

My 6 month old son was prescribed smz-tmp 200-40/5 sus aur, hydroxyz jcl 10 mg/5 ml sol hi- tech, pred sod pho 5mg/5 ml,and hydrocortisone cteam usp 1% in the er today. For a upper respiratory infection ear infection in both ears and a allergic reaction to penicillin i was just wondering if its safe for him to take all these medicines at once? ## Hello, Brittany! How is your little gent doing? I hope he's feeling better. Do you have a pediatrician? Because if so, I would suggest double checking with them to make sure. They should be able to pull the records from the ER to see exactly what he was prescribed and the relevant doses. I think I have a guess as to what some of these are, but I am not 100% certain just from what you've posted of the abbreviations, so I am very reluctant ...

My 2 yr old is taking smz-tmp 200-40/5, can he be in the sun? ## Hello, Allison! How is he doing? It would be best to avoid it, if possible, and if not you should use a strong sunblock. This antibiotic may make him more susceptible to the suns rays and heat, so he may burn or get heat stroke much faster than usual. Common side effects to the medication may include nausea, dizziness, non-alelrgic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?
