No, it generally isn't used that long, but they may have decided it was necessary if the infection was very severe. My 87 father was prescribed Sulfamethoxazole after being diagnosed with urinary/prostate infection. He has taken it for only one day but he experienced weakness, muscle aches in legs and today he woke with fever. I have a lousy cold (heavy coughing, headache,very weak,). Doctor gave me this medication. I take meds for HBP, cholestorol, thyroid. Is this ok to take for this. Im 79 ## He gave you an antibiotic to treat cold symptoms? That really makes no sense, a cold is caused by a virus and this will nothing to clear it up or treat the symptoms.
