can alcoholics be given restyl during sober periods and what could be the effects if such a person is having a higher BP reading? ## Restyl contains the active ingredient Alprazolam and most doctors will not give it to someone with an alcohol problem, due to the risks to the liver. It is a Benzodiazepine and as to the blood pressure, it can actually help lower that slightly, since it causes depression of the central nervous system. Is there anything else I can help with? ## i am drinking 4 pegs of 60 ml. indian made rum [alcohol, made from sugarcane molasis] from last 25 years, and now i seriously want to quit my daily drinking habit, i am trying not to drink alcohol for 4-5 days, but without drinking of my daily stuff i cannot take sound sleep, for that one of my friend suggest me to st...

I am allergic to sulfa drugs. Having a hard time finding the right blood pressure medicine. Can you please help me find blood pressure meds that don't contain sulfa ## Hello, Sherrie! How are you? What specific sulfa drug or drugs have you had a reaction to? While many blood pressure medications are related, not everyone that is allergic to a sulfa drug, such as Bactrim, is also allergic to all the rest. I am a good example of that. I had a very bad reaction to Bactrim several years ago, but I am fine with blood pressure and cardiac medications. What blood pressure medications have you tried? The FDA lists the symptoms of an allergic reaction as possibly including swelling, trouble breathing, hives, itchy rash and angioedema. ## Diovan hct, zebeta, hyzaar, bystolic, cardizem, I can ...

I've just started Bystolic -I take Fenofibrate, Lisinopril and Amlodipine but my BP was (and remains) at 160/74. This has been true for several years. I'm an exerciser and within an hour after exercise my bp is 130/60. My at rest pulse is 55. Since I've been on Bystolic (2 days) my pulse is lower but my bp hasn't moved. I'm a bit slower in my exercise regimine - from 13.5 min./mile to 15 min./mile - I'm 72 ## It sounds to me like you're doing great as far as exercise goes. My only suggestion would be to turn most of your attention to what you're eating on a regular basis, as I believe this has a significant impact on your BP levels overall. I used to have high BP for years in the range of 150/90, but was able to control it by controlling my eating habits ...

I was switched from Losartan by teva, which I was doing great on to Losartan by pack. Within 2 days my legs have swelled and my blood pressure has gone up. Has anyone else had this problem and how can I get Teva Lorsartan again. ## Hello, Lynn! How are you? Has there been any change? Which one a pharmacy carries depends on which company was offering the cheapest price, when they needed to restock their supply, so there's no way to know if any pharmacy has the one from Teva in stock. It would actually be best to see your doctor, as edema can be a side effect of this medication, as reported by the FDA, so you may need to switch to a different one, or add a diuretic. How long have you been taking it? How high has your blood pressure been going? ## Hi, I called my pharmacy and told them...

I'm a 76-year-old diabetic female with blood pressure that is difficult to control. I was originally put on Atenolol 50mg until my medication was changed to Telmisartan + Hydrochlorothiazide (Telma-H). Right now my blood pressure is constantly changing. Please advise. Should I be on a salt restricted diet with Telma-H? ## Telma-H contains Telmasartan and Hydrochlorothiazide, it is used to help control high blood pressure. And yes, if you have high blood pressure, regardless of what medication you are on, you should always restrict your sodium intake. Too much of it can have an adverse effect on your blood pressure, elevating it even more and it can also cause fluid retention, which can lead to congestive heart failure. I got a horrible cold/flu and my heart rate keeps going over 100 - psvt has returned. I am taking metoprolol in desperation. Please help. Has anyone else ever had this happen? I can't take any medication for fear of starting a psvt. I have taken Advil. ## Whenever you are sick with a condition that can affect your breathing and circulation, it causes your heart to have to work harder to pump enough blood to your organs, so it can be normal for your respiratory rate, heart rate, and blood pressure to become elevated. Did your doctor instruct you to restart the Metoprolol? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, hypotension and palpitations.

fighting high blood pressure but want to know if it would be better to split 100mg dose to 50mg twice a day. Seems like I start the day off way behind and spend the rest of the day trying to get it down...over 100 most mornings 95 is down!! ## Yes, it can be taken that way, I split my doses, with my doctor's approval, because it works better for me that way. Generally, they only prescribe them as once daily doses because many people forget to take multiple doses throughout the day, so it's easier to keep a patient compliant, if they only have to take them once daily. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. My cardiologist even specifically prescribes mine as tablets to be cut and taken twice ...

Hi. I'm on 1.25mg per day of Bisoprolol Fumarate. My resting heart rate goes down to about 45 BPM at times. Should I be concerned? ## Hi Paul, Some safety guidelines for this medication state that your blood pressure should be checked regularly to determine your response to bisoprolol. Your doctor may ask you to check your pulse (heart rate) and if your pulse is faster or slower than it should be, it recommends that you call your doctor. I do agree that 45 bpm is pretty low and could possibly mean that you should adjust your dosage a bit if at all possible. 1.25mg appears to be a pretty low dose of the medication, but I'd ask your doctor about cutting it in half if need be. I hope this helps! ## Thanks for this excellent, detailed response, David. Great advice!

I was prescribed 10 mg Lercanidipine about three weeks ago for high blood pressure. Experiencing two types of chest discomfort, one is my heart pounding in my chest usually accompanied by flushing. I also suffer from anxiety and this is definitely not helping!!! I try to stay calm but am beginning to worry about doing anything!
