Thanks ## Hi Lorin, Based on my research, Prolase is a digestive enzyme, intended to help the body digest proteins in the small intestine. I believe it is derived from the Papaya fruit. It is a dietary supplement and shouldn't cause any adverse reactions unless you are allergic to Papaya.. if you have an allergic reaction you may experience stomach discomfort or nausea, but those symptoms are rare. It shouldn't take more than an hour to digest and start to take effect, but there are a number of factors that can determine it's effectiveness.
