Two yrs ago I went cold turkey from 160mg oxycontin a day for six months. Was a living nightmare. Now I am planning detoxing from two 30mg morphine a day for about six months. Should I expect the same nightmare? ## HEY, I JUST DID IT THIS MONTH, WELL JULY TO AUG, AND I STARTED TO BREAK IN HALF MY MEDICINE, FROM 4 30mg OXYCONTIN & 2 60 MG OF MORPHINE,...DAMAGE FROM CANCER, I WANTED TO GO DOWN SLOWER, BECAUSE IT WASNT WORKING THAT GREAT FOR THAT TIME FRAME,...I HATED FEELING LIKE A PRISONER ALWAYS ON MY MED's OMG,..U LIVE AROUND THEM. I have just been prescribed Oxycontin along with Morphine sulfate immediate release (80 mg of oxy, 1 tab 2x a day, 30 mg of morphine ir) for severe nerve damage to my left leg. I have started to become nauseated, is this due to the combo of both? I take them at separate times a day as prescribed. I have been on msir for 1 1/2 years, but a weaker dose. ## It is actually more than likely due to the higher dose of the Morphine. Unfortunately, while also working so well on the pain receptors of the brain, morphine also acts on the receptors that trigger nausea and vomiting. I went through the same thing myself when I switched from Oxycontin to MS Contin. It will take a few weeks, but it will eventually wear off. However, you can expect to experience this anytime you alter your dosage again....

I was taking OxyContin 80 mg twice a day it is now no longer on my formulary the doctor switched from oxy to morphine extended release morphine extended release is the dark blue oblong pill generic version . This morphine generic does not work nearly as good as the oxy.. Is there other generics that are better than the current one that I'm taking? ## Hello, Donald! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain. What are the markings on the Morphine tablet that you're taking? Do you know what the dosage is? Morphine is weaker than Oxycodone, so you'd actually need take 120mgs of it to be equivalent to each 80mgs of Oxycontin that you were taking. Thus, I'm concerned that you may not be on the correct dose. The FDA classifies this as a narcotic analgesic, so it h...

I was taking 4 80 mg oxys daily my doc put me on 2 100 mg teva morphines will it help the same and will i go through withdraw thank you ## The equivalent dose would actually be 120mgs of Morphine to equal each 80mg Oxycodone that you were taking, so you've actually been put on a lower dosage. Thus, it may not handle your pain as well as the Oxycodone did and yes, you may experience some withdrawal. Learn more Morphine details here. Have you started taking them yet? Are they helping any? ## Im taking 150mg of morphine sulfate Er cos i was taking 180 oxycodone. Will the morphine help me from withdrawals from the oxys?

I live in Columbus, IN and I've been taking pain meds since 2001 and my pain doctor is trying to make me wear a pain pump and I have a pacemaker defibrillator and I don't want that. I have heard nothing but bad things about pain pumps. So I am looking for a new Dr... Can anybody help me please? ## I have been on every med available for pain since 1986. I had two passion pumps installed a year apart. 1 St was a morphine pump at max dosage. Didn't work for me. The 2nd was a cocktail pump w/ morph, muscle relaxant and anti-inflammatory meds. Doc removed it in 3 months due to it not achieving desired effect. They suck without something for breakthrough pain. Hope it helps u and good luck. Not recommended by me at all ## I understand there is a pain implant available that takes a...

I have been struggling with chronic pain most of my life. I have been taking 3 60MG Extended Release Oxycontin tablets a day along with 3 30MG Oxycodone instant release for breakaway pain. After 3 years of the same dosage it's not working as well as it used to. So my doctor decided to change up the meds a bit. She gave me Morphine Sulphate 60MG ER twice a day and for the life of me I cannot feel this working. It's only been a day but usually I would have pain relief around 30-45 after taking the Oxycontin and then about 3-6 hours of relief. How is this Morphine twice a day at the same MG going to give me the same relief I was getting before AND was already struggling with hence the change to the Morphine? I don't get it, especially after everything I have read falls in line ...

This is the highest dosage unit of immediate release morphine made anywhere, just the one brand, VERMOR-60 by Verve Healthcare. I take them simply because they are much cheaper than any other morphine sulphate I have ever come across, and I need three 'rescue' doses of an opioid analgesic daily since my Oxycontin 120mg tablets seem to last only 6 hours, and not the twelve claimed on the box... Has anybody noticed that the new caplet shaped tabs are subjectively stronger than the old round ones? ## Just as a wee addition to my original post - SEVREDOL is the 'Gold Standard' & most-dispensed brand of IR morphine, being found in most countries (as will be evident to those who use IOPs to acquire medication), & are made in green 50mg, pink 20mg and turquoise 10mg tab...

I would like to know if there is any pain medication that compares or is an alternative to oxycontin (80mg), besides opana? ## There is a time released Morphine on the market, as both a generic and under the name brand MS Contin. It is not as strong as Oxycodone, so you would require a higher dosage. If you were taking 80mgs of Oxycontin, then you'd need 120mgs of MS Contin. There is also a patch on the market, which contains the active ingredient Fentanyl, it is very potent, over 80 times stronger than Morphine. Are there any other questions? ## I am on 80mg oxycontin, what strength ms contin would I require as a equivalent? ## I broke 10 vertebrae in a serious accident a number of years ago. I have been taking Oxycontin 30mg ER for several years to help with chronic pain. My healt...

Purple pill with G163, is this Oxycontin? ## This is a generic 40mg Oxycontin manufactured by Dava Pharmaceuticals. ## WHAT MG IS IT ## 40mg ## What does a 30 mg look like. Is there an M on one side? ## Yes on some its just the manufacture. Who made the pill. ## 'M' located on one side of the pill usually refers to the brand name 'MS CONTIN' which is the same as ER or CR Morphine Sulfate. Each releases the dosage strength of the medication slowly over 12 hours, thus the reason 2 are typically prescribed per day (12 hrs apart). Medications such as this, Oxycontin, Duragesic patch, oral Dilaudid, etc are usually prescribed for those who suffer from and who will cotinue to live with chronic pain-

I was researching info on this site in order to have my doctor switch my meds when I see her tomorrow - Wed. I ran across a link that was to a site that would calculate the dosage needed to replace one drug with another. Does anyone have this info and any other info on changing my oxycontin and oxycodone tomorrow. This doctor is a real b...tch and has not increased my meds ever in over two years, so I need to be able to know what she is doing when I ask her to change the meds. The oxycontin does not help so much anymore and the side effects concern me alot. I developed long qt syndrome from 2yrs on methadone so I am real nervous about this new formulation of oxycontin anyway. So needless to say I cant take methadone and morphine makes me ill and fentynal did not work for me but that was...

I have been taking 40mg oxycontin 3x a day. My insurance won't cover it any more. My Doc prescribed ms contin 30mg 2 x a day. will it work? ## Oxycontin contains the active ingredient Oxycodone. It is stronger than the MS Contin which contains the active ingredent Morphine. Both are narcotic pain relievers. That said, your doctor has actually prescribed you a lower dose, to be taken less frequently than what you were taking of the Oxycontin. However, the only way to see if it will help you is for you to try it. Some medications are effective for certain people, some are not. If this dosage does not handle your pain, make sure to contact your doctor right away and let them know. They may need to prescribe one that is slightly higher or to be taken more frequently. You may still exper...

I have been using ER 60 mg morphine sulfate x 2 daily with other meds. No one has this medicine in Tampa area and being legally blind I have no way to go to 50 pharmacies to locate because they won't tell you on the phone. Is there something equal that I can get my Dr to RX? I am running out of other medicines, need help. ## Have you ever tried Oxycontin? It's a time released formulation of Oxycodone, which is a very potent narcotic and it's also stronger than the Morphine, so you'd even require a lower dose, you'd only need 40mgs of it to equal each 60mg dosage of Morphine. Learn more Oxycodone details here. Since it is also a narcotic, it may be habit forming and can cause similar side effects to those of the Morphine, which may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth...

I am facing major surgery in four weeks time and I am fearful that the same will happen as in a similar operation last year. Cold turkey during recovery and no one would listen. I want to die. If they give me more morphine. Would that work. ## Yes, it could work, but only if they give you an equivalent dosage. Oxycodone is stronger than Morphine, so you would require a higher amount of the Morphine to equal what you currently take. Thus, if you are on 40mgs of Oxycodone, to prevent withdrawals and handle your pain accordingly, you'd need 60mgs of the Morphine. Is there anything else I can help with? ## It helps a lot as I dreaded that the same experience might again. I will ask for a plan that must include the correct dosage of morphine e.g. 60mg. Are you speaking from personal expe...

I am wondering if dilaudid is stronger than oxycontin? morphine? norco? norco 10/325? liquid 40ml norco 2.5mg/5ml? ## Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone. That said, it is a potent narcotic, and what it is stronger than depends on the dosage of each. It is not stronger than most dosages of Oxycodone, but is stronger than some. Oxycodone is the strongest product on the market approved to treat pain. Whether it is stronger than the others also depends on what dose of the Dilaudid you're asking about. Was this prescribed for you? You can read more about it here: ## Actually, Opana (oxymorphone) is about 2 to 3 times stronger than oxycodone, or contin. I went from a oxy 30mg ER to an Opana 10mg and have had the best results as far as pain relief. ## can you list the le...

for 3 years my dr. was prescribing me three 60mg morphine sulphate er and four 30mg ms ir daily. when it became impossible to get MS in Florida, he switched me to Fentanyl patch 12MCG/HR every 3 days and 7.5mg-200 hydrocordone , 1 every 8 hours. the pain was unbearable and I felt terrible. cold sweats, shakes, could'nt think straight. when I asked him to increase dosage, he increased the patch to 25 MCG, but said there was more MS in the 7.5-200 hydrocodone than the 30mg tabs of ms. do you agree? Also, how does the patch equate to the Three 60MG MS er I was taking daily? Prior to this Dr.,after I moved 200 miles away,, my orthopedic surgeon was prescribing me Oxycontin, or oxycodone. Hi, I'm prescribed 80mg Oxycontin from my doctor. My other Doc writes me a prescription for 60mg Oxycontin a week later. Both get filled and paid for by my insurance, since they are different milligrams insurance covers it. Is this legal? ## In Nj I can tell you it is illegal because you are only allowed to attend one pain mgt doc that can prescribe morphine based opiots. ## That is not correct, for a dosage change, it is perfectly legal. Most insurance plans will cover a dosage change. The problem, however, may arise in getting the same pain medication from multiple doctors, especially a narcotic. This is considered doctor hopping and is considered illegal. If one doctor prescribed it, then any dosage change should be made by the same doctor. In most cases, if you were taking a 60m...

Help me find something stronger than oxycodone 30 imm release and works longer I'm going too doctors in the morning and I need everyone's help please ## Hello, Caityln! How are you? There is no 30mg immediate release Oxycodone, so if you weren't taking Oxycontin, then I assume you were on the regular release formulation that starts working 15 to 20 minutes after you take it. That said, there are stronger doses of Oxycodone available that could try, if your doctor approves. If you prefer Morphine, you'd need 45mgs of it to be equivalent to each 30mgs of the Oxycodone that you were taking, so more if you need to increase the dosage. The FDA classifies these medications as being narcotic analgesics, so they carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, s...

what is the eqivalent dosage of morphine vs oxycodone? I currently take 40mgs of oxycodone, and would like to change to MS IR, what amount of MS IR is equal to 40mgs of Oxycodone? ## Oxycodone is one and a half times stronger than Morphine, so an equivalent dosage would be 60mgs. However, you do need to make sure you taking the same formulation, since both Oxycodone and Morphine come in regular, instant and time released formulations. Thus, if you're taking the regular release formulation of Oxycodone, then you would need a regular release formulation, in that dosage, of the Morphine. The only 40mg Oxycodone available is the extended release, Oxycontin. Due to the dangers of overdose, from getting too much medication, at once, it is highly unlikely that your doctor is going to give ...

I understand that 8 percocet a day is the maximum dosage. My problem is that it actually takes that much to keep my pain under control and allow me to live a functional life, yet any time I even hint to my Dr that 3 a day just isn't working well enough I get drug panels, accused of being an addict and so forth (my drug panels always come up clear as I don't abuse any drugs). My question is what are my options? Tried fentanyl, oxycontin, etc (all nightmares). Can't change Dr's as he has said he will put me in databases as an addict. Please help. ## You can take one Percocet 10/325, as frequently as every four hours. But, if someone has chronic pain, most, if not all drs, are putting them on Extended Release meds like MS Contin which is Morphine. ## Hi Jim, I'd also en...

1pill-2x daily 30mg ms contin & 4-10mg oxycodon is that better than 1new oc (op)30mg 2x daily &4-10mg oxycodone what is better ## The Oxycodone in the Oxycontin is stronger than the Morphine that's in MS Contin, by one and a half times, so it generally requires a lower dosage to achieve the same analgesic effect.
