Oxycodone Taper

I had brain surgery 3 mos. ago. Was almost off the oxycodone when I developed a bone infection in my skull. Went on very high dose. Came out of the hospital with a PICC line and on 20 mg ir oxycodone 6 x a day. Down to 5mg 6 x a day but now I am having a very hard time reducing anymore. Can I go down by half and not have any wd symptoms? Or should I come down slower. ## It might be best to taper slower, your doctor should be able to help you set up a proper schedule. Are you taking the regular release, or the time released formulation? The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.

Hello! I was given 15mg 4x's day by dr if oxycodone. My insurance will no longer cover so I have tapered down to 15 mg every 24 hrs. I cut one pill 4 ways and take a piece which is 3.75 mg every 6 hrs depending on discomfort pain. I really need to taper down enough to stop taking without the horrible side effects of withdrawl. I went thru this in feb cold turkey off Percocet (4 years at 60mg day) and landed in the ER where they put me on Tramadol for 3 months then switched me to Oxycodone. I really want this stuff out of me so at this point what would be a safe taper and at what point should I stop taking all together? I did ask my dr and his response was keep taking less. Useless!!! Any honest safe advice would be appreciated. I have come down so far in doses and really want to jus...

tapering down. I've been on 60mg for 2 weeks anyways I have 40mg left until my refill tomorrow. I feel like crap. What the best way to take the 40 I have left till tomorrow? All at once before bed or 1-2 through the day? Please help ## Hello, MikeyMike! How are you feeling? It would most likely be best to space them apart throughout the day, but you should follow whatever instructions your doctor provided. As reported by the FDA, even with a gradual taper, you may experience withdrawal effects, such as nausea, headache, diarrhea and rebound pain. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was in a horrible accident. My Dr. Put me on Dillaudid 4 mg. After a half month I cut myself down to Dilaudid 2 mg. When that was gone, my Dr. Put me on Oxycodone 10, to keep down withdrawals. I've been on these for approx. 2 weeks. Is it safe to now cut my dose down, and how should I go about it? I DON'T WANT OR NEED THE WITHDRAWAL. ## It is not a time released medication, so as long as your doctor approves, you should be able to cut the pills to gradually reduce your dosage. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? ## If you have only been taking opiates (as prescribed) for about a month, and onl...

I have disc issues from L1 to L5 and I was on Oxycodone for 1 1/2 years starting at 5/325 4x's a day and ended @ 30mg 6x's aday so I decided to get off the Oxycodone with Suboxone, started @ 8mg Suboxone 2x's a day then tapered to .25.g Suboxone 1x a day over a 5 mos period, here's the problem in the 5 mos period since I wasn't on pain meds my pain came back full force and I started taking the Oxycodone 10mg 6x's a day for the last week, so I wanted to know if I was to stop taking the Oxycodone would I still go into withdrawal as though I had never stopped, the proiblem is in the last 5 months I lost my job and Medical insurance and I can't afford the Suboxones (oxycodone is a lot cheaper when prescribed than Suboxone ) I need an operation so in the mean whil...

I take 5 mgs. of percocet twice daily for approximately 2years now. I am so tired of taking them. today I didn't take any and I feel a pressure in my head. My last one was about 12 midnight. Is this gonna get worse? ## Hi BB, The exact progression of oxycodone withdrawal may be different for each individual. However, from what I hear, symptoms tend to get worse over the first few days before leveling out. Usually for drugs like this, the safest way to stop taking them is to tapper off them, under a doctor's supervision; if possible. Failure to taper may result in much more severe withdrawal symptoms than you might originally anticipate; and could even prolong the withdrawal process over several weeks. For some people with a high tolerance, 10mgs is not a lot. But since you'v...

Was on Norco 10-325 on and off for a few years due to back problems. Had l4/l5 Laminectomy and was sent home with 5mg oxicodone. It's been 16 days since surgery and I tapered down from 2.5 yesterday. Last one last night at 10 pm. Withdrawals kicked in at 2:30 pm today! Not too bad. But the abdominal pain is bad when the immodium wears off. How long will this last and will it get better or worse physically tomorrow and the next day? No RLS yet. Is it comming???? I want to be done! ## Just wondering how your withdrawal experience went? I weaned the exact same way Im down to 2.5 mg tomorrow for two days then Im done. Just curious what Im in for?! ## I found the rebound pain to be the worst problem, when I stopped pain management, but I didn't taper. I just stopped. But I had extrem...

Any ideas on meds to take to offset it I know my body will hurt for a while ## Hello, Mrs. ATC! How are you doing? The severity of your withdrawals will really depend on how long you've been taking such medications and a slow taper is really best, because it will help minimize them, as much as possible. I've been on Oxycodone for 7 years. 5 mg 2 to 3 times a day (sometimes 4 times a day on a bad pain day) I've never been without them. I had shoulder and back issues which caused a pain doctor to put me on them. My job changed 2 years ago to where I shouldn't need these meds as I don't do anything labor intensive anymore. I'm still on them. My doctor said stopping shouldn't be an issue, just taper from 3 a day to 2 then to 1 and then 1/2 but I find myself going through sweats and sickness when I take just 1 a day. Looking at the clock to see when it's been 24 hours so I can have another one. Pain aside, the sweats, running to the toilet and the creepy crawly feeling on my skin as if I am going to go insane. What should I do? Should I just stop cold turkey at th...

SMALL ROUND IMPRINT K/9 NOTHING OTHER SIDE FOUND IN KIDS ROOM STATES OXYCODONE ## Yes, this contains 30mgs of Oxycodone, a narcotic pain reliever. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you ask your child why they have it? ## I'm determined to stop taking oxy/hydrocodone after many years. I need to do this Aline and have already begun the first stages of slowly tapering off. Also heard melatonin and B complex would help with the sleep issue. Anything else anyone could advise? Thanks in advance

How are the 10mg oxycodone made by Rhodes Pharmaceuticals compared to other brands? ## Hi Shizz, According to NIH, the 10mg oxycodone tablets (that are white, round, & scored, with "R" over "P") made by Rhodes, contain the equivalent of 9 mg of free base oxycodone. Ref: dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/drugInfo.cfm?setid=a5162476-1217-41c0-bc7e-0a0f123f069f So in terms of potency, it apparently doesn't contain what a 10mg Rx label says it does, which is really corrupt marketing in my opinion… Especially towards those who are switching from another brand that may have more or less (unknowingly setting the stage for withdrawal symptoms from tapering). I suppose they think the extra milligram will come in the form of placebo. Next, in terms of inactive ingredient...

I've tapered down from 20 mg oxycodone ( for 3 months for back pain) to 5mg for the last eight days. I want to get this process over with, of course. I could drop to 2.5 for week or just stop oxycodone now and prepare for the symptoms. My dr has given me adavan and clonidine. Advice please. ## So, you sent from 4 x 5mg per day to 1 x 5mg per day? Is your pain under control? 3 months isn't that long of time. If I were you, I'd change to 2.5 mg 2x per day then cut it to 2.5 once a day then that is it. ## When you think u tapperd down enough dont do none for 2 whole days then after 48 hours take a little bit, but dont get all loaded. Just take the edge off a little so you will sleep and wake up almost normal. I'm about to do it, hopefully i can quit. It's a mother f***e...

Dr put me on 5 mg oxycodone (20 mg a day). 1 capsule every 6 hrs. I've been taking it for 9 weeks due to TKR and the Manipulation of my knee under anesthesia. I have to get off of it but I'm panicking because I think I'm already experiencing withdrawal. The oxy only seems to help for 2 hrs and then I become agitated and anxious. My pain increases. How do I taper and how long will it take? I'm supposed to visit my daughter in 3 weeks and I don't want her to see me like this! ## Any time you ingest something for a long period of time, suddenly stopping it, or lowering your dose may result in withdrawal effects, but as long as the substance was only being taken as prescribed, they are usually mild, and short-lived. Ref: Oxycodone Information Other withdrawal effects may...

need a pain medication that doesn't have aspirin in it but is effectice i am taking oxycondone ## You can always talk to your doctor about prescribing generic Oxycodone as apposed to Percocet (Acetaminophen + Oxycodone). Aside from that option, generic Hydrocodone is a common substitute for Oxycodone. There is a decrease in potency however, so if you are on a high dose of Oxycodone you may want to taper that dose down a little and start with a slightly higher dose of Hydrocodone. More details about Hydrocodone and Oxycodone can be found by clicking on the links below: I hope this helps! ## Hello, I have been prescribed oxycodone 30mg tablets for my chronic low back pain due to a condition and I also suffer from arthritis but lately I'm having a problem getting it filled. I take 2 5mg oxycodone tablets 3 times a day for the last two years., sometimes a couple extra over that. I had a disk problem with major pain. My back has been doing much better for about 8 months now, I can actually walk again without my left leg giving out on me. Now my problem is I can't get off these damn things. I had tapered a couple months ago down to nothing and didn't have the awful withdrawal symptoms I have heard about, some discomfort but not terrible. I thought I was done but as life goes another issue popped up and I ended up with a kidney stone, never experienced such pain in my life, so I had to reach for the oxy again, very disappointing. I never realized when I started taking this med just how addictive they really are and my doctor never explained this to me ...

I would like to chime in here. If all possible do not take oxycontin er. I have been on them for 7 years now. I was taking Norco for a muscle disease I got for chemicals when I was in the army. I had a heart attack later on and my doctor at the time said I had to take these OXY. That it was safer if I knew what I know know I would have punched him in the mouth. I was on 140 mg er. I am now chemically dependant on them. It's miserable up and down wake up in the morning in full blown withdrawals. I have been self tapering myself off of them. This is a very very miserable. I am now down to 10 mg 3 times a day. Getting ready to go to ir's. I dropped 10mg ever couple of weeks to get here. I will never take another opiate when I can get off. If you are in my boat I am here to say you ...

Hi, I suffer from chronic pain (lumbar spine) and see a pain management doctor. I've been on medication this time for about 10 months, before that I had about 8 months off of everything following 1 year of taking them. I'm looking for some answers about my current dose of Oxycodone, I'm wondering if my dose is considered normal or on the high side and also what side effects other people have experienced on OxyContin & Percocet. I am thinking that I may want to get off of it and wondering if it's best to taper down or just stop. And if taper down how would i do that. Really I have a lot of questions and would love someone who knows about this stuff to respond. I have googled a million times but never find a thread that is active. I have also tried to talk to my doctor...

I just moved to North Dakota from Texas and in Texas I had a pain Dr. for extreme migraines, they call it chemo brain, as a result from when I was on 3 years of chemo. Well it's harder to find a pain dr here than what I thought, they'll all 2 months out so are family Drs. I take 12 15mg oxycodone daily and I ran out 2 days ago went to the ER because I was hurting so bad and he gave me 20 4mg Percocets. They're are gone now I took the last one when I woke up. Since those 2 days I was taking Percocets does that count as tapering to help the withdrawal a little. I have no idea what I'm in for and I cannot find anyone to prescribe me any sort of withdrawal medicine, that's all I'm worried about! ## Brittnay- have you looked into suboxone doctors to get you off the ox...

I take 10mg of Oxycodone three times a day for a spine injury. I've been taking it for two years, never got high with it. I weigh 185lbs, will it affect my driving? ## Oxycondon should not affect ure driving if U take as directed. Are U taking a break through as well? Be careful.do not drink alcohol or take other pain Rx.I was on Oxycondone for less then 1yr.I broke out with 14 ulcers on my left leg.A bad side effect from it.Then it drove me out of skull.Adverse reactions fromit. But may the man above helpU if it is all wrong 4 U. ## If you are experiencing some of the side effects, such as dizziness and drowsiness, then yes, it could affect your driving. I am a 28 year old female and I am on 10/325 Oxycodone for almost 5 years now for lumbar chronic pain. My new MD wants me to see a surgeon or get off of the painkillers altogether. I have seen two different surgeons in the past and they both told me surgery isn't an option. But my MD thinks otherwise and wants me to get an MRI. This medication is the only way I can function daily. I have tried to stop and taper off and such but it just causes my back to lock up so bad I can't even walk. How can I convince my doc that I need this medication? Any advice would help greatly. And this doctor is the only doctor I can see in my town due to my insurance plan. Otherwise I'd have to see one 68 miles away so a new doctor won't help. ## Hi katien28, I'm so sorry to hear about yo...
