My husband has severe rheumatoid arthritis and requires 24 pain management. We felt there were too many ups and downs with the 50 mcg fentanyl patch and asked for something new. Pain Management Dr. (PMD) changed him to MS Contin 15 mg. He was in bed for 4 solid days, was taking 4-6 percocet per day for breakthrough and was anorexic and irritable. Opana is manufactured by Endo Pharmaceuticals. The problem here is that due to abuse and diversion, many of them don't cover controlled substances, especially since they don't consider them life sustaining medications. I did a search and the only thing I am finding on their site is a savings card offer that gives you $25 off each prescription, up to a maximum of $300 a year. Opana costs too much for the same thing that Oxymorphone does. Opana is about $500+/-, while Oxymorphone is $47. ## opana and oxymorphone are the same thing, and you can get high off it. They are avaliable in 10's ir and 20's & 50's in er. ## Opana works for me. I just picked up 130 pills for $1,000 and some change. I have been taking Ultram 50 mg 2 tabs 4 times/day + Lyrica 150 mg twice/day for years for not only almost every vertebrae in my neck & back being herniated with impinged nerves, spinal stenosis, degenerative spine disease & scoliosis, but also severe fibromyalgia & osteoarthritis (mostly in the knees & ankles. I'm disabled and my insurance has denied my prescription. My family paid for it and it was 500 dollars. My pain specialist switched me from 100mcg of fentanyl to 40mg 2 times a day of opana ER. Was this the right conversion? I went through withdrawal for 3 weeks and I'm still in a lot of pain. ## Fentanyl is currently the stronger opiate available, so no, it is not equivalent and it is normal to experience withdrawals and rebound pain for awhile, according to FDA reports. Has there been any change, yet? You might need a dosage adjustment. The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. ## I was just switched over from opana 40 mg twice a day to a 50 mcg fentanyl patch. My doctor just switched me to Opana IR 10 mg. I was taking Lortab 10/500, but staying misusing then because I built up a tolerance. Well these Opana's are amazing. I have never been so pain free in the twenty years suffering with chronic pain. Not to mention how awesome they make me feel in general. Bad part is the itching...keeps me awake and is unbearable. I wondered if there is something over the counter I can take to make this itching go away whereas I love Opana and definitely don't want to give them up. I have been struggling with pain management for 15 yrars. I seems like I have tried every thing available. I have no relief from the pain. I am currently on Exalgo 32mg. still no help. I have tryed norco, oxycodone up to 30 mg, hydromorphone 30mg, I usualy feel no effect at all. What is the difference with the hydromorphine. I have been prescribe opana for over a year now and the dog carried off my months prescription and buried it. The Dr. Said he can't help me! I need some in a bad way ! Please help ## The DEA will block it even if he wants to give you the prescription. However you can get (I take instant so I'm going to make up the mgs for the example) a prescription for 100 20Mgs if you get 50 40mgs and take 2. But likely he will not write you this. Next you can ask for something called withdrawal patches. Doesn't mean you're an addict, you can still have withdrawals. Hi there, New to this forum, and appreciate any replies/feedback. My PM doc (who has changed my meds each visit x3) Rx'ed Nucynta 50mg 3x day, a change from Percocet 10/325mg 3x day for BTP. Also switched to Oxycontin 10mg every 12 hours (from Opana ER) Stated he wished to "lighten any burden on my lungs" given my medical status: pulmonary nodules which are increasing in size, both lungs, biopsy next month; severe asthma, residual COPD S/P bilateral PE's 10 years ago. Using Symbicort inhaler. I am uncertain how Nucynta would lighten the burden on my lungs, given the warning about lung conditions/impairment, and specifically asthma--of course, respiratory depression can occur with many pain meds. I would be so grateful if someone could help me figure out why I'm sleepy all the time! I am taking opana 10mg 2x daily, with vicodan for breakthrough pain. I am 65 yrs old, female and also taking many other pills including paxil, lasix, simvastatin, insulin (type II diabetic) lisinopril, glipizide and potassium. I have been on several different pain meds such as fentanyl 50mcg/hr (it eventually made me feel like i was going crazy) buprenorphine, oxycodone which worked very well but I was dipping into that bottle a bit too often.
