I have the same question. Did anyone give you an answer back in 2009 for the difference btw. these 2 drugs? Thanks. ## Yes, they are the same. The active ingredient is Methylphenidate, which is also what generics are called, and Methylin is a brand name of Methylphenidate. Is this the generic for Ritalin LA 30 mg? This is what the pharmacy filled, but I thought it should be Methylphenidate LA 30 ## It is the same medication, the LA, and the E both stand for the same thing, which denotes it as being a long acting, or delayed release medication. You might see other abbreviations, as well, including XR, ER, CR, SR, but they all mean the same thing. Personally, I think it would be better if they had one standard abbreviation to designate a medication as being time released, but at this time, they do not. The FDA warns that Methylphenidate carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, nervousness, and anorexia. Is there anything else I can help with?

Why is the price of methylphenidate so expensive now? My doctor informed me that it is dirt cheap, and is generic. I was diagnosed with ADD, and was informed it was a cheap drug since I could not afford health insurance. My memory and attention is poor. I am willing to try the drug in generic form. ## I take 10 mg methylphenidate three times daily for narcolepsy. I have no health insurance, but I have been paying $6 for ninety pills at the local Wal-Mart. Today I went to have it renewed and got hit with a $55 bill. I am a senior on fixed income. I would imagine that it is either caused by the increased demand due to upturn in ADHD diagnoses, or some effect of the wonderful new Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare. His Grace strikes again? ## And I am taking the generic...forgot to tell yo...

I am in college and I have ADD. At the start of the spring semester my Dr. prescribed me the generic form of Ritalin "methylphenid." When I went to go get my last prescription filled they gave me "methylphenidate." Are there any difference between the 2? If so what? ## They are the same, both generic for Ritalin. The pharmacy just left off the last 3 letters of the name. ## Hello Bobjotoby, How odd, I don't think I have ever seen a pharmacy cut off just the last 3 letters of a drug but I was unable to find anything on a drug named methylphenid so I would assume that BL is correct in saying that is likely what has happened. For peace of mind you always have the option to call the pharmacy and confirm if this is the case. Let us know what you find.

My pharmacy recently switched brands for my Methylphenidate 10mg and I swear I could be swallowing placebo. This medication does not work. I’m looking to see if anyone else has had this problem? ## Under the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984, generics are allowed to differ from the name brand by as much as plus, or minus 20% of the active ingredient, the FDA considers that to be an acceptable therapeutic window. In most cases, the difference are minuscule and no one notices, but some people are sensitive to medications and can run into other problems. Another reason for a problem could be too broad of a difference, since in reality that is a 40% window for difference. For example, the one you were taking previous might have been high in the amount of the active ingredient, say it was actua...

Why would I get 2 different pills when I have the same prescription and same manufacturer on the bottles from the same Pharmacy? The amount of time between scripts was 2 months. ## This is a generic medication, so it is manufactured by different companies, this is allowed by the FDA in order to create market competition to help keep prices down. My best guess is that your pharmacy ran out of their usual one and had to use some from a different manufacturer to fully fill your latest prescription, or they switched, and neglected to note the change on the label. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, and anorexia. What are the markings on them? My doctor wants me to take Methylphenidate and only wants me to take brand name Ritalin. Will the pharmacy fill the prescription early due to the change of going from generic to brand? ## In most cases they will not, if there has not also been a dosage change. Why does your doctor want you to only take the name brand? Have you had some issue with the generics? The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, insomnia, and weight loss. ## Yes.....as if you did not know! The 3 Manufacturers are Mallinkrodt/Methylin, Sandoz and Watson Pharmaceuticals. On this day, December 3,2011 I learned that if a generic drug is back ordered in lots of different Pharmacies our HMO's will pay for the drug that is prescribed. All who are prescribed Methylphenidate 20 mg. are being turned away by CVS, RiteAid, including the pharmacies in some Giant food stores . If you are prescribed both forms of this drug do not let the Pharmacist fill one part of your prescriptions and if both are on 1 prescription sheet never trust anyone to complete the refill. They'll fill the one they have and as far as the other part, you lose! ## Finally my pharmacy failure has been explained. I went to my CVS Pharmacy and Talked with the manager about the crisis of this back order defen...

I am losing it trying to find a pharmacy other than CVS that carries the Sandoz brand of 20mg Methylphenidate hcl. I have tried most independent pharmacies and none of the major chains seem to have them. I called Walmart, Walgreens, Costco, Neighborcare, Riteaid, Safeway Pharmacy, SuperFresh Pharmacy, a bunch of small independents as well as a few epic pharmacies. The only reason I dont go to CVS is because They have to order it, I have been out for 3 days now, and there cash price is higher than anyone in town. I take three 20mg hcl tabs a day. Plus, my mother is one of the pharmacy techs at my neighborhood pharmacy and has been in recovery for 12 years and would go crazy if she new I was being prescribed generic ritalin. Although I have never had a substance abuse problem, and she kno...

I have just been given Methylin as a generic for Ritalin. I have taken other generic forms of Ritalin. All others have been called Methylphenidate and have all responded as anticipated. Methylin has been very different. It has made me sleepy, not alert at all and most importantly has significantly lowered my blood pressure while raising my pulse. My last dosage lowered my bp to 63/46, pulse 96. I stopped the medication. Are there any others with similar effects while taking this medication? ## Tell your doctor and pharmacist that this generic doesn't work for you. I may be wrong, but ask, I can't see you taking some...

it is white and round an looks jus like a percocet 30 only it has the m in the square on one side and a 5 on the other ## WHITE 223 PILL ## M 5 contains 5mgs of Methylphenidate, a generic for Ritalin, this is used to treat ADHD and Narcolepsy. Common side effects may include: nausea, headache, irriatbility and insomnia. You can read more here: ## Dog, is that the complete imprint from the tablet or are there any other letters or symbols on it? ## Dog - the white pill with 223 is reportedly 5 mg Oxycodone immediate release. Regarding the original question, while Verwon is 100% correct that the current pill with M 5 on it is Methylphenidate, there is a grandfathered version of that pill with similar inscriptions from Mallincrodt that points to Oxycodone 5 mg as well. So that might be anot...
