Methadone For Pain Management

I am taking 60mg of methadone a day for pain management, given to me by a rheumatologist in Pa. We are moving to NJ. Will it be hard to find a doctor in NJ that will prescribe it for me there? I have been on it for about 6 years. I also take Percocet 10/325 for breakthrough pain. ## I am not sure how hard or easy it will be to find someone, some doctors are more understanding and liberal than others. The best advice I can give you is to make sure you take a complete copy of your medical records from your current doctor with you. By doing this you make sure they get the full records of all current tests and prescribing information and you also ensure that they get all of the information and nothing is lost or left out during a records transfer. I live in Northern VA & was recently (& unfairly) discharged from my Dr. of over 4 yrs. I am nearly out of meds & NEED to find a new Dr. asap! I take methadone (& occasionally either opana 20er or oxycodone 10 mg for breakthrough pain only & rarely) If there's anyone who can help me find a new Dr. (NOT associated with the Alt-Med group!!!) I would be beyond grateful! PLEASE HELP! I've called at least 45 doctors & keep coming up empty: either they don't prescribe Methadone or they won't accept out-of-pocket pay! Grrrrr! I have 2 young children & CANNOT afford to go thru withdrawal!!! Thanks to anyone who responds helpfully... ## You might be better off going into a methadone clinic until you can find a doctor who will prescribe for you but if y...

Dear RxChat Community, I just have one specific question, so this will be short. Why are Pain Management physicians so quick to prescribe Methadone, over any other narcotic, if they already know beforehand just how incredibly hard it will be to get off it--if ever? Do they have a hidden agenda? I will greatly appreciate any and all responses! Thank you all so much!! ## I believe the government is a bit more lenient on methadone docs, because it is not a drug of abuse. Just a guess, but where I live, pharmacies can be worse than docs. ## Hello Glenn, my experience as a lay person for 27+ years in pain management around people who have taken methadone causes them to not be able to feel the effects of other opiates and abuse other opiates. To me this would be the main reason doctors would ...

How are you? I'm sorry, but there is no listing of doctors according to what they will or will not prescribe that I can refer to for you. Do you currently have a PCP that you see regularly? If so, they should be able to refer you to someone. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I have been on methadone for pain since 2003, moving from md to knoxville and need a doctor ## Hi, Kristi! How are you? The best thing to do, once you're in your new location, would be to find yourself a general practitioner and then have them refer you to a pain management specialist. Under the new regulations, a GP won't be able to prescribe such a medication for long-term pain management. They are restricted in what they can prescribe, why they can prescribe it and for how long they can prescribe it. Learn more Methadone details here. Can anyone recommend a good doctor in the area?

I need to find a doctor willing to prescribe Methadone. I was in a car accident in 2009. Ihave been through the ringer with different doctor's & many different meds but Methadone seemed to work the best. I have been with my present Doctor for 2 1/2 years!! and on oxy 40s and Norco 10-325 for the amount of years, they no longer have the long time affect to get me through my day.. I have 2 young children including a 9 month old. I need HELP!! my doctor says he is worried in prescribing me a Methadone because of the "addicting" purpose..but sorry doc. what do you think the oxys or even the Norco do? I've come to the conclusion that he is just wanting to rake in the money from my insurance with the 2 meds he is already prescribing me vs. the 1 med that will help me!!! so...

I've been on methadone for almost 13 yrs due to a car accident when I was a teenager that left me disabled and with chronic pain. My current Dr. Received a letter from the Medical Board ( which he let me see) explaining that in order to keep prescribing methadone that he will need to get a license that will allow him too continue to perscribe this. My dr said it's became a huge hassle and that because of other patients "dr shopping" he just can't do it anymore. I've been with him for over 6 yrs! He was nice enough to give me a supply to last me a few months to give me time to find a Dr that will help me. My dr now said if by chance I'm still haveing trouble at the end of three months, he will keep helping me but he's not sure for how much longer. I'm ...

I have been prescribed dilaudid 8mg 4xs daily for 2 years by a respected, long time in the community pain management dr. He tried me on Fentanyl in Feb but it made me sick and changed the dilaudid to 6 daily until I find new PM Dr in my new area. I moved from Destin, FL to Jacksonville, Fl. 3 weeks ago. My Destin PM Dr was giving me the 6 daily ONLY until new Dr finds extended release rx to suit my needs and use the dilaudid for breakthrough. He didn't want to start me on a new rx and then I move in case of reactions. So. Being he gave me 120 every 20 days instead of every 30 days so not to raise a red flag here in FL, no new PM Dr will see me before 28 days is up, leaving me in withdrawals and the original horrible pain for not only those 8 days in between but an additional week be...

How well does methadone work for chronic pain management? I went from 10 mg oxycodone then dropped down to 7.5 mg hydrocodone and my pain is totally out of control. I have no relief. I live in Memphis Tn.I have been going to the methadone clinic for 13 years.I have R A and I can't afford the methadone clinic anymore.I need to find A Dr That will prescribe my methadone. I need help ASAP ## Hello, Lee! How are you? I'm sorry, but a clinic is your only option. It is illegal for a private practice doctor to prescribe it for addition treatment or maintenance, under current U.S. law, that can only be done by those specially trained in its use for such in a clinical setting. Even those that resorted to a clinic for pain, end up having to remain there, because once that is in your medial records, you have no other option. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness...

I have been on methadone for about 6 years and had to start going to a maintenance clinic a few yrs ago after my pain dr lost his license here in Phoenix, Arizona. I tried going to another pain clinic after mine closed but they wanted me off the methadone and forced me to taper off of it in one week and demanded I took gabapentin which DOES NOT work and they didn't care. Anyways, I went to mmt clinic and have been there since but there are so many things wrong with it, I'd end up writing a book. Does anyone know of a pain Mgmt doc who writes methadone scripts in Metro Phoenix area? ## Unfortunately, since you've been going to the clinic, it isn't likely that you'll find a doctor that will take you on. Moved to western North Dakota from East Coast. Have been prescribed methadone for 15+ years to treat legitimate pain. Have taken same dose for last 8 years; (100mg/day). If anyone lives in this area if the country and might have a name for me, it would certainly help as I search for a physician. I have my records for every year of pain treatment, including tri annual drug panels (always + for proper med/dose), all Rx records with same pharmacy, and haven't ever needed script filled early, I take meds exactly as prescribed, and just want to create a positive relationship with a new physician who can see that I am a trustworthy patient and just want treatment for my pain.
