i have mersa and they perscribe sulfameth ds tabs to treat it.. why? and how do i stop getting frequent break outs of mersa? ## MRSA (pronounced mersa) stands for Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus, a type of bacteria that's resistant to a lot of common antibiotics. It does usually respond to sulfameth. If you have repeated infection, it's probably colonized your skin. You may be able to clear it by taking a bath with 1/2 cup bleach in a whole tub of warm (not hot) water for about 5 min, then rinsing off. Do that 1-2 times a week for about a month, and it should help. ## Bathing in bleach is NOT recommended and can actually be very dangerous! There is a sign that a person must wear gloves and masks before entering a patient's room. There is a name for it but I cannot remember it. I think it was an immumity to a certain antibiotic. ## Were you possibly thinking of MRSA? It's usually pronounced like mersa and means the person has infections and complications that are resistant to Methicillin and related antibiotics, which makes it very difficult to treat and makes them easily susceptible to other illnesses. ## Yes, I found out it is Mersa.
