After taking one Losartan 25mg at night, noticed nasal stuffiness. Is this something that will go away after taking medicine for a longer period of time ? ## Hello, Bill! How are you? Yes, Losartan can cause it as a side effect in some people that take it, I take its relative Candesartan and experienced it for awhile, too… however, yes, it did eventually go away and all is fine now. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking losartan 50 mg a day, but divided in the morning and night. As my dr noticed side effects, I was later prescribed 25 mg. It has been 10 days but I have serious cramps in my legs when I'm jogging or walking. I'll consult with my dr... My bp is 120/80. Is there another medicine that will lower my bp but with less side effects than losartan? Or can I take half of 25mg one time a day? ## I am taking this drug as well with the same side affects. After having taken it for a month the cramps (Charlie horses) have all but stopped. ## Those might be side effects of this medication, according to NIH reports. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination. But as GS stated, they typically go away, after your body becomes used to the medicati...

Dear Pres. Info.: My husband was prescribed Losartan 25mg yesterday. However, there were 2 different looking tablets in the bottles. Thanks to your web site, I was able to identify the white round one with 572 is in fact Losartan 25mg. The other one is "light green colored, oblong shaped" and the number '7364' on one side & the number "93" on the other side. Is this really Losartan 25 mg also??? Thank you in advance for your time and assistance to identify this drug. Most sincerely, Emily ## Hi Emily! Yes, the tablet with the 93 7364 also contains 25mgs of Losartan, which is used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions. Pills by different manufacturers will sometimes be used, if the pharmacy doesn't have enough of one to completely fill the pr...

I was prescribed Losartan Pot 25mg. When the prescription was first filled, I received a green, oblong, tablet. When it was renewed, I received a tiny, round, pink pill. Is this just a manufacturer's difference, depending on who made the drug or is it something else, like being given the wrong medication?Frank ## Losartan is a generic medication, so it is manufactured by several different companies, but I can't really tell you any specifics, without knowing the markings on the tablets in question. Can you please post back with this information? If you do so, I will gladly check for you. Is there anything else I can help with?

Blood pressure 180/110 suppose to lower diastolic pressure would like more information ## Hello, Rita! How are you? Actually, both of those numbers are too high, normal would be considered around 120/80. This medication is used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. It combines an ARB with a diuretic. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increase urination, stomach pain, dry cough and dehydration. What other information would you like?

ingredients of this drug including all the fillers, etcl ## I'm sorry, but since you didn't specify a manufacturer, I can't tell you what the particular fillers/inactive ingredients are. This is a generic for Cozaar, so it is made by several different companies and the inactive ingredients can vary. The active ingredient is the Losartan, which is an ARB that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and stomach pain. Learn more: Can you post back with more details, such as the manufacturer or markings on the pills? ## I am experiencing a rash on my torso and wonder if it is becing caused by my generic hydrochlorothiazide losartan - 25 mg. with ZD19. I took one pill and an hour later took another one.... What do i need to do? Will it hurt me? ## While it is always best to check with a medical professional, according to most FDA reports, doubling up just once is usually not dangerous, unless someone is allergic/sensitive to a medication. But it may cause you to experience more severe side effects than usual, which could include nausea, dizziness, headache, and increase urination. How are you doing? Did you experience any adverse effects?

Taking stress echocardiogram this AM & was wondering withholding taking medication until after procedure. Please advise. Thanks! ## I can see this post was from a few days ago, however, for future reference, in such cases, unless your doctor instructs you to skip the doses of certain medications, before a procedure, you should take them all, as you normally do. Losartan with Hydrochlorothiazide is commonly used to help control high blood pressure and to treat some cardiac conditions and missing a dosage of it, or several doses, could cause rebound effects, which may put you in danger and/or affect the results of these types of tests. How did the test go? ## i have been taking losartan/hct tab 100-25 for about a year. i have been having pain in both legs, tireness, legs feel heavy. I...

I am taking losartan 100 mg tablet every morning before breakfast. I also take Plavix 75 mg and Levothyroxine 100 mcg in a.m. By lunch time I feel very tired and don't have much energy the rest of the day. After dinner I take Narvasc 5 mg, Zetia 10 mg, aspirin 325 mg, and cephalexine 250 mg. My doctor doesn't seem to be very concerned about the fatigue but I feel it is interfering with my life. Such as gardening, exercising, shopping, etc. Any suggestions? ## How long have you been taking these medications? Fatigue, drowsiness, headache, increased urination, and joint pain can be side effects of these medications. How long will you be taking the antibiotic? Has there been any change?

I started Losartan 7 days ago and BP has not gone down. How long does it take to start lower BP? Today's reading 142/83 and 135/87. ## Hello, Missy! How are you? It may take a month, or so, for it to reach its full level of efficacy and to see how well it will work for you. I've been taking it for several years and am very happy with the results. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

If the doctor prescribed 25mg of Losartan, can I cut a 50 mg of Losartan in half? Thought it would save some money. ## Hello, Rita! How are you? Yes, that can be done, as long as it's not a time released medication and your doctor approves. I've been doing this every day for several years, now. Before I had insurance, I discover it was much cheaper to buy 30 of the 50mg tablets, instead of 60 25mg tablets, and break them in half, since I take it twice a day. Most of them are even scored to make it easier to do so. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. The one caution I would like to posit is to make sure you take it will a full glass of water and swallow it immediately. This medication tend...

Can this medication affect the liver in anyway ? ## Hello, Brenda! How are you? Most medications are processed through your liver, so yes. Though, it is very rare for it to cause any problems. However, when most people are taking it for a long period of time, their doctors will do liver and kidney function tests to monitor and make sure they aren't developing any problems. This medication is most commonly used to help lower high blood pressure and treat certain cardiac conditions. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, hypotension and dehydration. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have been taking losartan 25mg for about 6 weeks for high blood pressure. Within that time I started to experience back pa...

my Losartan hctz tab 100/25 ap are yellow oval, i just want to make sure they are the right pills ## I can't really provide you with a definitive answer, without knowing the markings on the tablets, since that is what enables us to identify them for you. However, there are several oval, yellow tablets on the market that contain this dosage of Losartan and Hydrochlorthiazide. Some of the markings are: 93 7368 (The 93 may have been changed to the word TEVA) APO 100 25 M43 LU E 49 and there are several others. Do any of these match the tablets in question? ## I take Losartan/hctz yellow oval tabs number on it is 1118 Pharmex 2009 copyright These do not cause me to cough I am trying to find a pharmacy in Surprise, AZ that carries these. ## Carol, I'm sorry, but we have no way of kno...

Took my BP this morning at 10:00 am, was128/63. At 7:34 pm, 141/70, took one Losartan 25mg. And checked at 9:50pm, 147/74. No exercise, no drinking. I have neglected the last few days to take the Losartan 25mg pill. Blood pressure was good 127-130 with 65-70-73. Only recently started on Losartan. Should I be increased to 50mg ## Hello, Joe! How are you? Before you increase your dose, you need to take it consistently for about 4 to 5 weeks to see how well this dose is going to work for you, which means no skipping doses. It is normal for your blood pressure to fluctuate throughout the day, depending on what you've eaten, activity levels and etc. Even anxiety or worrying about your blood pressure can cause changes in the readings. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibl...

I am having sensitivity (pain)in my right breast area since taking this drug for one month i take it every other morning also developed a cough ## I am also on losarton and now I have this hacking cough. But not to worry my doctor just emailed me that there is no chance that this medicine could cause my cough and if I wanted to go off it that would be fine and let her know how it turns out. It is always nice when you find that your doctor would rather be right than listening to her patient and offering harmful advice. I really have no choice but to go off the medicine just so I can stop the hacking, it has gotten so bad I am not sleeping. Good luck. ## Losartan can definitely cause that cough, it does happen to quite a few people that take it and that side effect will not wear off, so i...

I was prescibed 100mg/25HCTZ of Losartan. I have been taking 5mg/6.5HCTZ of Ziac. I was concerned that the Doc started me off with such a high dose of 100 mg of Losartan when the internet says the starting dose is 50mg. My BP went up hovering around 140/90 while on the Ziac. Any thoughts? ## Hi Charlie, I'm sure your doctor only prescribed what he thought would benefit you, however it is your body and if you are not comfortable with the dosage you should definitely speak with him. He may have prescribed you a larger dose to compete with the Ziac that could still be lingering in your system. In regards to your blood pressure raising while on Ziac, I can't find any information that says high blood pressure is a side effect of the medication since that is what it's supposed to ...

Can a losartan 25 mg tab be cut in half? It makes me have blurred vision. ## Yes, but you should only do so, if your doctor approves of your taking a lower dosage. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. How long have you been taking it? Are you on any other medications? ## I take losartan 25 mg and sometime I get real dizzy and have blurred vision is there a smaller dose ## Do not cut in half if it's an extended/ slow release coated pill. If it has a groove on it it might be ok. Your safest bet is to contact a pharmacy. ## I month 25 mg. and I wake up in the morning and my back hurts so bad. I was thinking maybe I could cut it in half. Other meds are synthroid for hypothyroidism and 40 mg proton...

I have taken generic hyzaar for years.for the past 4years I've taken losartan potassium HCTZ 100-25 mfr by SANDOZ. They 2 days ago I got my refill and it was a different color pill and made by NORTHSTAR rx. Two days of taking them and my BP goes up to 154/122! Holy crap! My norm is 120/80. Has this medicine acted like this for other people? ## Hello, Vicki! How are you? Has there been any change? There can be fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredient in generic medications, as allowed by the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984. Thus, this one may not be as potent as the one you were taking. The 122 is concerning and you should have this checked out, if it's still going that high, as your doctor may need to prescribe a different medication. ## They changed my meds back to the orig...

Are the ingredients in Diovan 160 mg and Losartan 100-25 mg comparable if I run out of one can I switch to other? ## Hi Elaine, As far as comparing these drugs, I think it's not wise to assume that they have similar properties, since everyone can react differently to one or the other, despite having an equivalent dosage. If you're used to taking one or the other and have your doctors permission, I'd say it's fine to switch off between the two. However, at the same time I wouldn't necessarily anticipate having the same relief or results from two entirely different medications. On a side note: Eating whole foods that have little to no sodium and which are high in potassium and magnesium are solid dietary options for lowering blood pressure. These foods primarily includ...

My blood pressure has been running low the past days. Today average is 107/70. Will I still take the losartan? I also am being treated for anxiety. I took last night 8pm .125mg of CLONAZEPAM (1/4 pill). That's probably worn out by today 6pm. Please help me decide. I'm scared that if I don't take losartan my BP might rise. ## Hello, Techi! How are you? Those aren't dangerously low numbers and you should still take your medication as prescribed by your doctor. Stopping suddenly creates the risk of a rebound effect that could cause your blood pressure and heart rate to elevate to dangerous levels. The typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain and hypotension. The Clonazepam can also lower your blood pressure, ...
