My 78'year old dad just started taking candesartan and has experienced severe leg cramps. His,Doctor, just switched him to this medication to try to see if it could help with his persistent cough and hoarse voice. ## I am so sorry about what your dad is experiencing. Has there been any change? Severe leg cramps may be caused by low potassium levels, which is something this medication may also help with. How long has he been taking it? Other side effects, as reported by the U.S. FDA may also include nausea, dizziness, increased urination and hypotension. Is he on any other medications?

I have been taking Simvastatin for 2 months. My legs and feet cramp terrible. Does anyone else have this problem? If so what can I do for relief? ## Simvastatin, the generic for Zocor, is commonly used to help lower cholesterol. Unfortunately, many people experience side effects from Statin medications. That said, muscle cramping is listed as a rare side effect, this means you should contact your doctor immediately to report it to them. You may require a dosage or medication change. You can read more on the medication here: Have you mentioned this to your doctor, yet?

I don't know what to do for this problem I need medical advise I can not stop tle leg cramps at night? Please advice urgent Thank you ## Hello, Juan! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you're having. According to the NIH, the most common cause of nighttime leg cramps is low potassium levels. You should have yourself checked out to see if that's what might be causing yours. If so, supplementing potassium is a simple matter and many people do it just be eating bananas regularly. Another possible cause would be dehydration. How much fluid do you take in each day? Are you on any medications? ## Night cramps in legs... I’ve had ‘em for a long time, but they became more frequent as I aged until I could say ‘every’ night. More like every morning at...

I take Altosec, Pharmapress, Crestor - can any of these drugs cause severe cramps on long term use? ## There's a possibility it's from the Crestor, because it has been known to cause both muscle and joint pain and problems as side effects, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness and headache. How long have you been taking it?

My doctor has tried me on two different antihistamines now, Loratadine and Cetirizine. Both give me cramps. I have no deficiencies and am in health good. Any ideas anyone? Many thanks. I am in the UK. ## According to the NIH, they have been known to cause leg cramps as a side effect, in some people that take them. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, drowsiness, and headache. How long did you try each one? Such side effects usually go away, after about 5 to 6 weeks, once your body gets used to a medication. ## I was on Cimetidine for almost two years and Loratidine for three months. Enough time to connect them to leg cramps. The Loratidine also caused me to have very vivid dreams and so I rarely felt refreshed int he mornings! ## I was on Cetirizine about two yea...

Would like to know if you get leg cramps following taking Torsimide, Also was told that Fluid pills, namely Lasix is dangerous when taken with blood pressure meds,(Enalaprel)... Would appreciate any infor. Thanks ## There are dangers associated with combining them, but they happen very rarely and diuretics are often combined with blood pressure medications, the dangers are most often associated with people that have severe, active cardiac conditions, such as congestive heart failure. The usual doses, for a person that is regularly monitored by their doctor very rarely cause any dangerous issues. As to the leg cramps, there are 2 reasons those might be occurring, or they could be from a combination of both. The medication may be causing you to become dehydrated, or it may have caused you...

My doctor's PA suggested that I take Mirapex for extreme leg cramps in my groin. The cramps started after I was forced to take statins to lower my cholesterol levels. The statins didn't work, but caused the extreme leg cramps. I would be left screaming for 40 minutes or more when the cramps would hit. The PA suggested trying Mirapex at .125mg up to .375mg dosage rates on an "as needed" basis. Mirapex was nothing short of a miracle. When the cramps would hit, I would take two .125mg tablets and the cramps would completely stop in about 20 minutes. I have been checked for underlying conditions (Restless leg, Parkinson's) and they don't exist. I know this treatment may be considered "off-label", but it has been a lifesaver for me. ## Since Mirapex is commonl...

i was perscribe nitrofurantoin for two and a half weeks. During all this period i suffered of leg muscle cramps, nausia, and general bad feeling. A day after I finished taking the medication, I had palpitations with heartbeat of 175 per minute. Could Zanidip be causing leg cramps at night. I am either up with leg cramps or up to the toilet. I drink 2 lts of water a day, and if that drops even the smallest bit, the cramps get worse. Something is dehydrating me. ## Zanidip contains the active ingredient Lercanidipine, it is a calcium channel blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure, but is also effective at treating certain cardiac conditions. By their very nature, many of these medications increase urinary output and can cause dehydration. However, another thing that could be causing the leg cramping is low potassium levels. Some of these medications can cause it and it will cause leg cramps, just as easily as the dehydration. It could even be a combination of both, with one problem feeding the other. Hav...

Hello i take one amloretic plus one ciplavasc 5 does that cause severe leg cramps morning and night plz help ## Hello, Linda! How are you doing? Has there been any change? It is most likely due to the Amloretic, since along with removing fluid from the body, it can also deplete potassium, and low potassium is the most common cause of leg cramps, according to the NIH. You could also be dehydrated, which could just worsen the problem, since that is another possible side effect, according to the U.S. FDA. How much fluid do you take in each day? What types of foods do you eat, anything rich in potassium, such as oranges, or bananas?

My Dr. has put me on Benazapril/Amlodipine for high blood pressure. I get terrible leg cramps in the night, and have to get up and walk around to relieve them. Is this unusual? I am also taking a Potassium tablet, which Dr. is aware of. ## I too have been getting leg cramps and was not sure why, thanks for the post Rae. ## I've had this happen every time my Dr. gives me a diuretic. ## I'm going to have to ask my Dr. about that, once again I thank you for sharing. ## Diuretics can cause this, they can cause dehydration as well as low potassium, both of which can cause leg cramps. Please talk to your doctor about this. ## Doctor knows about it, but she's not the one getting up in the middle of the night, is she? ## Whenever I get leg cramps, I add more potassium. Does anyone know where this comes from? Walmart? CVS? Walgreens? Thanks! ## Hi Sara - do you have any packaging, the ndc code, manufacturer, ingredients, or other information handy? Can metformin cause a charley horse in the legs? I started metformin 500mg 9 days ago and starting on the 8th day I began experiencing really bad leg cramps. ## Yes, the FDA does list muscle cramping as being a fairly common side effect of this medication, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, flatulence, and stomach pain. Side effects are typically transient and should go away, once your body gets used to the medication, but that may take about 4 to 5 weeks. Are you on any other medications?

I have been on clopidogrel for 8 years after insertion of a stent. During this period I suffered the most painful cramping in my feet, legs and arms when performing moderate exercise. I recently visited my heart specialist who suggested that I may no longer need to take clopidogrel as a recent angiogram showed no significant blockages in my heart. I ceased taking clopidogrel and no longer suffer any cramping. The suffering I have endured for 8 years while on clopidogrel should be a warning to others. If I had been able to exercise without cramping it may well have been as beneficial as taking this drug. ## Hello, Bill! How are you doing? Wow! That's terrible, I'm glad you finally figured out what was causing it. Muscle aches and stiffness are known side effects, as listed by the...

I have use Myoflex for over 15 years and now I understand it has been discontinued. Knee problems from years of racquetball - miniscus are gone - doc prefers me do the Rball for heart health rather than knee replacement. (ME TOO!!!). Incredibly - Meloxicam (15 mg / day) has ZEROED the pain. Will sulfameth/TMS 800 causes cramps ? I've been takeing it for a week and have bad cramps in the top of both feet at night. ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of infections. It is not listed as causing cramping like that, except for in the stomach on some rare occasions. Usually night time cramping of the legs and feet is caused by being low in Potassium. Do you eat a proper, nutritious diet? Are you on any other medications, such as diuretics that can cause you to lose Potassium? ## I have taken two does of Sulfameth and my feet and toes are severely cramping up. Please advise.
