The FDA has requested that all such combination narcotic medications be changed to only contain a maximum of 325mgs of the Acetaminophen, due to the danger of liver toxicity and overdose toxicity. I have the white pill and also the blue pill marked with watson 540. Aren't they both the same except for a difference in the acetaminophen? ## Research I have gathered shows they are one in the same pill. Even the milligrams are the same. I found that the blue version of Watson 540 is simply manufactured or distributed by more companies than just Watson. Do you have any other questions or concerns? I recently, had my med changed from vicodin 7.5mg 5xqd to lortab 10-500mg tablet. 5xqd question is, "Is the lortab a higher dose of medication than the vicodin. ## Lortab and Vicodin both contain Hydrocodone, a synthetic opiate or opioid, as their narcotic analgesic. As such, your dosage strength increase is only in the amount of pills you are now taking, not in the opioid ingredient. Oxycodone, used in Percocets and OxyContin, is slightly stronger . . . a 5/325 Perc is equivalent to a 7.5 Lortab. The first number that you listed is the amount of the narcotic, the Hydrocodone and the second is the Acetaminophen. So, one of the contains 5mgs of Hydrocodone and 500mgs of Acetaminophen and the other 10mgs of the Hydrocodone and 325mgs of the Acetaminophen. Thus, in reference to the narcotic, for better pain relief, the one with 10mgs would be stronger, however, if you need more of the Acetaminophen, then the 5/500 would be stronger. This is a narcotic pain reliever, very strong and addictive. ## I wouldn't say they are "very strong", they are strong if you're not used to narcotic pain relievers, much stronger than a darvocet, tylenol 3, or even a plain vicodin 5/500, but weak compared to pain relievers such as percocet, roxycodone, morphine, dilaudid, demerol, oxycontin, fentanyl, and the many other stronger painkillers on the market. I HIGHLY agree that they're very addictive though. I struggled with addiction to vicodin and norco, so I know how addictive they are. ## in trouble need 5 10mg vicodin to feel ok a day

I had been taking Hydrocodone 5-500 (Vicodin) many years at the same dose when this drug was discontinued an replaced with the 5-325 (Norco) strength. I am still taking the same number of pills daily but after about three months I just do not feel like the new pills control the pain as well as the previous ones did. I know there is not supposed to be any different between the two other than the amount of acetaminophen is there anything else that might effect how the medicine is absorbed and how quickly it is?
