Is Oxycodone The Same As Oxycontin

Can someone tell me if Someone takes 2-30 mg Oxycodone IR and 60mg Oxycontin ER are they same and dispensed the same into your body if you would cut the ER in half? My friend takes both and she is on mail order. They have made a mix up in her pills so now she will run out of the 30 mg tablets her doctor is 2 hours away and she has to have a driver take her there and that would be me and I am sorry I really do not have the time this week to do it. So I was wondering if she is used to these amounts and trust me she has been in chronic pain her entire life since a child what would be the difference. I have been taking Oxycontin60mg but I am now in my coverage donut and can not afford my prescription. I had taken Oxycodone once before and it just didn't work as well. My best friend, who introduced me to her surgeon that performed my 360 fusion, was recently forced to return to PM due to pain from numerous back problems including but not limited to Bone spurs, bulging discs, curvature of the spine and more..., Her PM clinic is about an hour away from mine. Anyhow, he had her on Oxycodone 15 MG IR 4 times a day and he recently added Oxycontin 30mg ER twice a day due to her not having much relief from just the 15 mg pills. I have been on regular Oxycodone- one 20mg pill every 4-6 hrs a day for approx 6 mos I used to be prescribed 10 MG TWO PILLS every 4-6hrs prior to the switch by my doc. Now, my pain has greatly increased and NOW he has given me 30 mg 4x a day and another script for oxycontin 60mg 2x a day. NOW, I am really drowsy ALL DAY where I was not at all before after this recent change in script. I also DO NOT get the same pain relief. Seems weird----go up in strength and dosage yet now just very tired all the time and less pain effective too..WHY, WHY?. I have been prescribed and taking oxycodone 10 hcl, 1-2 tablets every 6 hours. Today saw my spine surgeon (nurse practitioner) to get a refill prescription and what I was given was oxycontin 10 mg extended release, the prescription says to take 1-2 tablets every 6 hours. Isn't this too much from what I have been taking? I am currently on 4 30mg oxycodone ir a day and 2 2mg dillaudid a day. I've had 2 major surgeries and I'm I'm only 24 and day in day out in extreme constant pain. My question is would switching to OxyContin the new formula be as effective? Does it have the same euphoria or is it less effective than what I'm on? I am wondering how they compare to one another? ## Based on my research, Dilaudid is much stronger then Oxycodone, but it doesn't last very long in it's immediate release formula. Oxycodone has an extended release formula (Oxycontin); which may be better suited for some people when used chronically for long term pain relief. 8mg of Dilaudid is "roughly equivalent" to 20mg of Oxycodone.
