Can anyone help? My INR is at 4.0. I'm wondering if I should skip my Plavix dose along with my Warfarin. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. ## I'm not on Plavix but when my INR is that high my dr. has me hold the warfarin 1 or even 2 days. When in doubt I ALWAYS call Walgreens pharmacists, they always give me good advice until I can check in with my doctor. ## Thank you very much I should have thought of that. I'm new to this and I freak out when things go wrong. I am having a hard time staying in range. I will make that call right away. God bless, Mike

My INR for over a year is between 2.5 and 3. My nurse insists that I only require it to be tested every 3 months. I have a mitral valve fitted and fibration and worry that this is not often enough. Comments? ## What medication(s) do you take? There are some newer ones that are not as unpredictable and don't cause the severe problems with your INR that the older ones did. For instance, people on Coumadin are usually tested every month.

Can taking clolazapam affect the outcome of my inr? ## Hello, Susan! How are you? Yes, Clonazepam has been known to cause thrombocytopenia in some people that take it. You may need to switch to a different medication, or lower your Warfarin dosage, if you take it. Are there any other questions or concerns?

Does taking the drug FORTEO affect one's INR? ## Sorry, this site does not have any doctor or nurses here, what are you referring to as INR? ## It shouldn't as it is a Parathyroid hormone replacement. If you need more information the National Institute of Health is the first place to start. ## Hi, If you are considering taking Forteo, please go to web page Patientville.com and type in the drug's name. There is a year's worth of adverse avents posted here that you won't find any where else and might give you pause for taking this as treatment. ## Does Forteo affect my INR?

will zyrtec alter my pro-time? I take Coumadin because I have a St. Judes mechanical aortic valve. ## Over the course of several months my Pro-time INR readings have been satisfactory---requirng no change in Coumadin dosage. "Suddenly" the readings became erratic-- to the extent that instead of monthly pro- times--I've had to have the INR checked weekly. The only "new" drug I've been taking is Zyrtec. I asked my PCP if Zyrtec can influence the INR. She replied-- "It's possible." So I cut out the Zyrtec--even though it's been very helpful. After 2-3 weekly checks --sans Zyrtec----things are okay. I wonder if any of your respondents have had similar experience. Thank you ## Yes, it is possible for Zyrtec to cause that as a side effect, along with di...

Hello, I'm a 24 year old male and I'm one of those whose INR drops when I excercise. I am currently running 3 miles 5 times a week. I'm taking ten MGs of Coumadin every day except for Wednesday, I then take 12 MGs. I've been in range with this dosage. I had read among some other posts, and people seem to think that your INR drops with exercise because since your heart rate revs up with exercise, the Coumadin is then metabolized quicker and not fully absorbed by your body. If that is true, here is my question: I know Coumadin takes about 24 hours for your body to fully absorb it and for it to affect your INR, which is why I try to exercise around 4 PM so the Coumadin that I took the evening before has had nearly 24 hours to work its magic since I take my Coumadin at 5 PM eve

Hi. I suffered pulmonary embolism last August and am lucky to be here today. Both lungs were affected but I'm way ahead in my recovery. I'm taking 3mg of sintrom per day and I'm wondering why my inr is only 1.8? I'm eating the correct foods and not drinking alcohol, which by the way I was also wondering if I could have a drink as it's very boring out with friends drinking water all the time? ## It would be best not to imbibe, since the NIH reports that alcohol may cause additional blood thinning as a side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, and headache. As to your INR, how much exercise do you get each day? What types of foods do you eat? Are you on any other medications, or vitamins? ## Hi Vermon Many thanks for reply I cycle 5klms a day walk another 5 as I live ...

I know someone with AFib and I am trying to compare the pros and cons of Coumadin vs NOAC. Also the doctor said Coumadin requires INR testing and NOAC does not. Is this really a benefit? Is INR testing really that cumbersome? As far as I know the INR testing needs to be done at Anticoagulation Clinics or use a home-monitor device. Has anyone found home-monitor better than clinics in terms of data transfer to the doctor? I am not sure if the clinics at CVS and Duane Reade offer the test. I am trying to collect as much information as possible, so any guidance and feedback is appreciated. ## Most people prefer the other medications, due to the fact that INR testing must be done very regularly, requiring a finger stick, which may be painful… and most doctors will not let you have it d...

I am 19 years old and have had 4 blood clots so far due to a birth control pill. I have to go every week and get my INR levels checked. Right now I am taking 4 mg on even days and 5 mg on odd days. My levels go from 1.7 to 4.4 to 3.8 to 2.4. I really dont like going every week to get my finger poked, especially at my age. Is there a recommendation that anyone can give me, like a different blood thinner, that I can talk to my doctor about? Or just any advice will help. Thanks ## Hi Julie, I'm sorry to hear about your situation, that sounds rough. I don't have any experience with blood thinners so unfortunately I can't recommend any new ones to you, but according to live strong.com, there are foods that act as natural blood thinners. Maybe you incorporate some of these foods i...

Is there any reason not to stick your toe for pt/inr test ## Hello, Trish! How are you? There can be differences in blood flow, so that blood lingering in your toes may not give as accurate of a representation as that in your fingers, which you tend to use much more, so they blood flows through them more freely. Is there anything else I can help with?

After post dvt have been taking warfarin for 3 weeks now and still can't get the required inr levels to level out . Have been on 13 mg daily for the last week and my inr did go up to 2.6 after 3 days but went down to 2.4 and last check was 2.0 . I don't eat or drink anything with vitamin k . My doctor doesn't seem to know why with such a high dosage of warfarin my inr level is dropping . If anyone can give me some insight to a reason for this I would be very grateful . And could pass the information on to my doc. ## I had the same problem and had to switch from Warfarin to the branded drug, Coumadin. While they are suppose to be the same, they are not. Once I changed, everything has been fine. ## for non metalic valves inr between 2 to 2.5 is acceptable. inr also depends upo...

There are certain drugs that can help you lose weight but there are none that are going to give you the results of a good workout at a gym. There are no shortcuts to gaining muscle.....

This is a bit long, sorry. I know it takes awhile to get the dose right, but this seems kinda weird to me, particularly since I'm getting somewhat conflicting answers from different doctors. I know I'm not missng doses, I have a pill box I use and an alarm set to go off and remind me to take it. The doctors at the blood clinic don't seem overly concerned, but they have said that they usually get people at a theraputic level faster than I'm going. I don't really take any other meds, I had a few Norco (hydrocodone acetomenophen) prescribed by the ER for a really bad headache a few days after I got out of the hospital and very rarely will take a dose for back pain, but not very often. I've taken six doses in the past five weeks, hardly regular use, and none of them ...

My husband's INR is at 1.5 should we be concerned...He has congestive heart failure and has a pace/devib also ## It really depends on what his doctor is aiming for, because in many cases, when they are using anticoagulants, such as Warfarin, they do try to aim for around 2.5. What has his doctor advised? Have they made any adjustments to his dosage?

My father has INR 1.43. He has taken 1,1, 2 mg sintrom in three consecutive days. How mg sintrom will he take in matter his INR to be 2-3? Please ask to me as soon as you can. Thank You ## Sintrom contains the active ingredient Warfarin, this is an anticoagulant. It is hard to say, it can take several weeks for most medications to reach their full effect in the body. His doctor should keep testing his levels regularly and adjust the medication as needed, accordingly. You can read more on this medication here: Have you tried asking his doctor about it?
